You cannot conclusively authenticate an individual Air Jordan 3 “Black Cement” pair with one photograph, one box code, or one at-home detail. The reliable approach is to identify the exact release first, compare the shoe with Nike’s reference for that release, treat labels and branding as clues, and assess the seller and transaction protections. If those pieces conflict, stop the purchase or obtain an experienced independent review.
Why the release year comes first
“Black Cement” is not one single production run. Nike has documented at least two relevant retro releases: the 2018 Air Jordan 3 Retro OG “Black Cement” and the 2024 Air Jordan 3 “Black Cement.” A pair can look wrong simply because it is being compared with the wrong release.
Ask the seller which release the pair is supposed to be before judging details. Then use the Nike page for that release as your reference. Do not use the 2024 description as a universal template for every Black Cement pair.
| Claimed release | Nike-documented reference | Details to compare |
|---|---|---|
| 2024 Air Jordan 3 “Black Cement” | Nike SNKRS identifies style code DN3707-010. | Smooth leather, elephant-print overlays, Nike Air heel branding, and a Fire Red Jumpman logo on the tongue. |
| 2018 Air Jordan 3 Retro OG “Black Cement” | Nike describes the retro as retaining Nike Air branding in honor of the original design and its 30-year anniversary. | Compare the shoe with the 2018 reference rather than assuming every detail must match the 2024 version. |
These references establish what Nike says about the releases. They are not certificates of authenticity. A counterfeit can copy visible design features, and a genuine shoe can be misidentified if its release year is wrong.

Step 1: Establish exactly what is being sold
Ask for the release year
Before buying, ask the seller to state whether the pair is the 2018 or 2024 release. If the seller cannot identify the claimed release, treat that as a documentation problem rather than trying to solve it from appearance alone. Ask the same question in writing so the seller’s answer is part of your transaction record.
Record the style code and matching information
For the 2024 release, Nike’s reference lists DN3707-010. Compare that code with the shoe’s information and the box information supplied by the seller. A code that does not match the claimed release is a serious inconsistency. A matching code is only one data point: the available Nike references do not establish that a code by itself proves a pair is genuine.
Do not infer that every Black Cement pair should carry DN3707-010. The code belongs to the 2024 reference, while the 2018 pair is a separate release. Ask for a clear photograph of the product information rather than relying on a typed code in a listing, where a transcription error or copied description is possible.
Check whether the box belongs to the pair
When a box is included, compare its product information with the shoe and with the release being claimed. A box can be switched, reused, or paired with a different shoe, so agreement between box and shoe should increase confidence only when the rest of the evidence also lines up.
If the listing is for shoes without a box, that absence is not conclusive proof of counterfeiting. It does remove one comparison point, however. Ask whether the seller has any purchase record or other provenance, and place more weight on the actual shoe, seller history, and return or dispute terms.
Step 2: Compare the visible design with the correct Nike reference
Use the official page as a reference, not a verdict
Open the Nike page for the claimed release and compare the overall design. For the 2024 pair, the reference describes smooth leather, elephant-print overlays, Nike Air heel branding, and a Fire Red Jumpman tongue logo. For the 2018 pair, pay particular attention to Nike Air branding and the fact that it was presented as an anniversary-era OG-style retro.
Look for inconsistencies in the kind of material, placement of branding, or overall arrangement shown by the applicable Nike reference. Document any mismatch with clear photographs and ask the seller to explain it. A visual match does not settle authenticity because replicas can reproduce public product photographs and design cues.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsWhat to photograph
Request photographs of both shoes, the lateral and medial sides, toe boxes, elephant-print overlays, heels, tongues, insoles, outsoles, and every label. Include the box label and any paperwork. Photographing both shoes matters because a mismatched or altered pair may show different details from left to right. Images should show the actual pair for sale, not Nike’s product photography or pictures from a previous transaction.

Do not judge a 2018 pair by 2024-only details
A common mistake is to compare a claimed 2018 shoe only with the 2024 SNKRS description. That can make a genuine older pair appear suspicious or make an incorrect release claim seem acceptable. The release year determines which Nike reference should control the comparison.
Step 3: Treat labels and branding as evidence, not proof
Inspect the internal size tag
An independent Air Jordan 3 guide directs readers to internal size-tag printing as one observation point. Examine the tag for legibility and consistency with the shoe and box information, and photograph it in good light. A tag that conflicts with the claimed release deserves further investigation.
Check whether the size, manufacturing information, and style information appear consistent with the seller’s release claim, but do not assign a pass or fail based on a single font, spacing, or date impression. The guide’s examples compare different colorways and are not an official Nike standard or a Black Cement-specific definitive test. Do not reject or approve a pair solely because a tag resembles an online example.

Inspect the tongue Jumpman details
The same independent guide points readers toward tongue Jumpman details. Compare the logo with the Nike reference for the release being offered. For the 2024 description, Nike specifically identifies a Fire Red Jumpman logo on the tongue.
Again, this is a clue. Counterfeit makers can imitate logos, and photographs can hide differences in shape, color, or placement. Use the observation alongside release documentation, seller history, and transaction safeguards. Do not treat a tiny logo comparison as stronger evidence than a release mismatch or an unreliable seller.
Keep a record of every inconsistency
Save the listing, seller messages, photographs, box information, and your own close-ups. Separate confirmed facts from impressions. For example, “the seller says 2024, but the supplied product information does not match DN3707-010” is more useful than “the shoe feels fake.” A written record also helps if you need to use a marketplace dispute or return process.
Step 4: Evaluate the seller and purchase context
Prefer traceable, reputable sourcing
Nike’s consumer guidance for Argentina says the best way to ensure a genuine Nike product is to buy from Nike, a Nike store, or a reputable, trusted distributor. That guidance is regional, so check the Nike policy applicable to your country before relying on it.

Buying through an established channel reduces risk; it does not prove that every individual pair already in circulation is genuine. For a resale listing, evaluate how clearly the seller identifies the release, whether photographs show the actual pair, whether the seller answers questions consistently, and whether you have a documented return or dispute route.

Be cautious when the story changes
Conflicting answers about the release year, missing product information, or pressure to pay before you can inspect the pair should lower your willingness to proceed. None of these signals proves counterfeiting, but they make it harder to verify provenance and harder to recover your money if the transaction goes wrong.
Consider the transaction protections before paying
Document the platform’s current return, dispute, and buyer-protection terms before you purchase. Confirm whether the policy applies to your location, the payment method, used footwear, and the condition in which the item arrives. A protection policy is useful only if you can meet its deadlines and evidence requirements.
Comparing places to buy
No purchase route makes an individual pair automatically authentic. Compare routes using the evidence and remedies they provide, then confirm the current terms directly because policies can change.
| Purchase route | What to examine | What it does not establish |
|---|---|---|
| Nike, a Nike store, or a trusted distributor | Whether the seller is an authorized or reputable channel under the policy applicable to your country. | It does not authenticate a pair that has already been separated from its original transaction history. |
| Resale marketplace with an inspection service | Whether inspection is described, when it occurs, what happens if an item fails, and how appeals are handled. | A platform’s general process or marketing figures do not prove the status of your particular pair. |
| Private or social-media seller | Actual-pair photographs, release and style-code consistency, seller history, proof of purchase when available, and a workable return or dispute path. | Personal assurances and a convincing photograph are not a certificate. |
For every route, ask which release is being sold, which style code applies, whether the pair can be returned, and how quickly a problem must be reported. If those answers are unavailable before payment, you are accepting more risk without gaining a reliable verification method.
Step 5: Understand what marketplace authentication claims mean
StockX stated on June 6, 2022 that its process included human inspection before a product was shipped to a buyer. In the same statement, the company reported that its authenticators had inspected more than 30,000,000 products since inception and had prevented $60 million in counterfeit sneakers from reaching buyers.
Those figures are company-reported statements from that date, not independently verified performance measurements here and not evidence about a specific pair. They should not be presented as a guarantee, nor assumed to describe the platform’s current process without checking its current policy.
If a marketplace offers authentication, read the present terms directly. Look for the point at which inspection occurs, what happens when an item fails, how appeals work, and which deadline applies to a claim. Keep the order confirmation and photographs of the package as delivered. An inspection service can reduce risk and provide a remedy, but it does not replace checking that the listing describes the correct Black Cement release.

A 2025 U.S. International Trade Commission briefing cited an estimate that about 10 percent of Nike products sold globally are counterfeit, attributing the estimate to Futurum Risk’s 2023 report. This is a broad, secondhand estimate. It is not specific to Air Jordan 3 “Black Cement” sneakers and does not calculate the probability that a particular listing is fake.

- Please Note: To reach 10Gbps speed, keep the cable under 3.3 ft. For USB A Male to USB C adapters, try flipping the USB C connector. USB C Male to USB A adapters support bidirectional 10Gbps transfer within 3.3 ft
Use such figures to understand why verification matters, not to label an individual seller or shoe. The evidence for a particular pair still comes from release identification, matching product information, visual comparison, seller provenance, and the protections attached to the transaction.
A practical inspection sequence before purchase
- Write down the claim. Record the release year, colorway name, style code if supplied, asking price, seller name, and marketplace.
- Request complete photographs. Ask for the actual pair, box, product information, internal size tag, heel branding, tongue logo, and elephant-print areas. Stock photographs do not verify the pair in hand.
- Match the release. Use the Nike reference for the claimed year. For a claimed 2024 pair, check whether the supplied information is consistent with DN3707-010.
- Compare the design. Check the overall arrangement, smooth leather, elephant-print overlays, heel branding, and tongue branding against the correct Nike reference. Record differences rather than making an immediate judgment.
- Cross-check the labels. Compare the internal tag and box information with each other and with the seller’s stated release. Treat agreement as supporting evidence, not conclusive proof.
- Review provenance. Check seller history, purchase documentation when available, listing consistency, and whether the seller permits a return or dispute.
- Confirm the protection window. Read the current marketplace and payment terms before sending money. Save all evidence and note the deadline for reporting a problem.
- Pause when evidence conflicts. Do not let a low price, urgency, or a single convincing detail override unresolved contradictions.
How to decide when the evidence conflicts
Release information conflicts with the listing
If the seller calls a pair 2024 but its product information does not align with the 2024 reference, ask for clarification and additional photographs. Do not silently reinterpret the pair as a different year. If the seller cannot resolve the discrepancy, avoid the transaction.
Visual details look right but provenance is weak
A convincing appearance does not compensate for an untraceable seller, missing photographs of the actual pair, or no workable return route. You may seek an independent review, but understand that an outside opinion is another assessment, not a Nike-issued certificate. Ask what evidence the reviewer used and preserve the pair in its received condition while the review is pending.

Reputation lowers risk but does not erase a mismatch. Send the seller a written list of the conflicting release, label, or branding details and request a remedy through the documented policy. Keep the pair and packaging in the received condition while the issue is being resolved.
You already bought the pair
Do not alter, clean, or discard the shoe, box, tags, or packaging while you investigate. Photograph the discrepancies, contact the seller or platform within its stated window, and request an experienced independent review if important evidence remains unresolved. The sources available for this topic do not provide a Nike-issued at-home procedure that conclusively authenticates an individual Air Jordan 3 “Black Cement.”
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Common mistakes to avoid
- Using one release as the standard for all Black Cement retros. The 2018 and 2024 Nike references are distinct.
- Treating a style code as a certificate. DN3707-010 identifies the 2024 reference but does not, by itself, prove authenticity.
- Relying on a single logo or tag. Internal printing and tongue branding are useful observations, not standalone tests.
- Assuming a platform’s marketing statement is a current guarantee. Attribute dated process descriptions to the platform and confirm current terms.
- Confusing a reputable source with proof about a specific pair. Trusted sourcing reduces exposure to fakes; it does not make every resale pair self-authenticating.
- Continuing after contradictions appear. Conflicting release, label, seller, and condition evidence is a reason to pause, not a challenge to explain away.
- Paying before checking the remedy. A return or dispute policy is only useful if it covers your location, payment method, footwear condition, evidence, and reporting deadline.
- Assuming missing packaging settles the question. No box removes a useful comparison point but is not, by itself, proof that the shoes are counterfeit.
Frequently asked questions
Is DN3707-010 the authenticity code for every Black Cement Jordan 3?
No. Nike lists DN3707-010 for the 2024 Air Jordan 3 “Black Cement.” The 2018 Air Jordan 3 Retro OG “Black Cement” is a separate release, so first establish the year being sold.
Does Nike Air branding prove a pair is real?
No. Nike Air branding is an important release detail, especially for the 2018 reference, but visible branding can be copied. Compare it with the correct Nike page and the rest of the evidence.

Is a StockX-authenticated pair guaranteed to be genuine?
StockX described human inspection in a June 6, 2022 statement. Treat that as the company’s dated description, check the current policy, and understand the failure, appeal, and buyer-protection terms for your transaction.
What if the seller has no original box?
Continue only if the remaining evidence is strong and the transaction has a workable return or dispute route. Without a box, you lose one cross-check, so do not treat the shoe’s appearance as conclusive.
Should I buy if only one detail seems wrong?
Pause and ask for clarification and better photographs. One mismatch may reflect a wrong release claim or an error in the listing, but unresolved contradictions should be treated as a reason to avoid the purchase or obtain an experienced independent review.
A concise decision rule
Proceed only when the claimed release is clear, the box and shoe information are consistent with that release, visible details agree with the appropriate Nike reference, the seller and transaction are documented, and no material contradiction remains. If any important element conflicts, preserve your evidence and either use the available dispute or return process or obtain an experienced independent assessment before treating the pair as genuine.
Frequently Asked Questions
What release should I compare with my Black Cement Jordan 3?
Identify whether it is the 2018 Air Jordan 3 Retro OG or the 2024 Air Jordan 3, then use Nike’s page for that exact release.
Does the 2024 style code prove authenticity?
No. DN3707-010 identifies Nike’s 2024 reference, but a matching code is only one supporting data point.
What should I do when details conflict?
Pause the purchase, request clarification and photographs, and use a documented return or dispute route or an experienced independent review.
Are marketplace authentication claims guarantees?
No. Read the platform’s current inspection, appeal, return, and buyer-protection terms; dated company statements do not prove a specific pair.
The Bottom Line
Identify the release first, then compare the shoe and labels with the correct Nike reference. Treat every visual detail as a clue, weigh seller provenance and transaction protections, and stop when important evidence conflicts.
