You can improve Galaxy S27 and S27+ selfies without knowing the final camera specifications: put soft light in front of your face, keep the lens clean and the phone steady, use a little more camera distance, align the frame, set exposure for skin, and keep face effects subtle. Those choices usually matter more than megapixels.
Samsung’s currently published product information covers the Galaxy S26 and S26+, not the S27 series. Therefore, exact S27/S27+ front-camera resolution, field of view, autofocus behavior, portrait functions, and motion-photo implementation should be treated as unconfirmed until Samsung publishes them. The workflow below identifies where an option depends on the final One UI camera software.
What is confirmed about the Galaxy S27 selfie camera?
The S27 and S27+ model names and their hardware specifications are still pending confirmation in the available Samsung material. Do not assume that an S26 specification will carry over to the next generation.

Prepare the phone before you take a selfie
Clean the front lens
Wipe the front camera with a clean microfiber cloth. Fingerprints spread highlights, lower contrast and make skin look hazy; because faces occupy much of a selfie, a small smear is often more obvious than a dirty rear-camera image.
Choose a stable grip
Hold the phone with two hands, brace an elbow against your body or rest the phone on a stable support. A small tripod or grip can reduce movement, but no S27-specific accessory has been verified. Stability is particularly important indoors, where the camera may use a slower shutter speed.
Find a useful background
Look for a background that does not contain a bright window, bare lamp or reflective surface directly behind your head. A darker, uncluttered background gives the camera less contrast to manage and keeps attention on your face.
Check the camera view at the final distance
Do not judge composition while holding the phone close and then move away after pressing the shutter. Perspective changes with distance, so frame yourself from the position you will actually use.
Use light that preserves facial detail
Best default: a large source in front of you
Face a window or an area of open shade outdoors. A large source produces softer transitions across the forehead, cheeks and nose than a small point light. Turn your body until the light reaches both eyes without forcing you to squint.

Side light for shape
Turning 30 to 45 degrees from the window can add gentle cheek and jaw definition. Watch the shadow side of the face: if one eye becomes much darker, rotate back toward the source or move farther into the shade.
Why backlighting washes out selfies
When the background is much brighter than your face, the camera must choose between retaining the sky or brightening skin. The result can be a pale face, clipped forehead highlights or a dark subject. Move so the light falls on your face, turn toward the window, or place the brightest area outside the frame.
Use artificial light carefully
If a room is dim, place a broad lamp or phone light near the camera axis rather than directly overhead. A small light close to the lens can create hard shadows and shiny skin; diffuse it or move it farther away. Avoid mixing strongly different color temperatures, such as a cool window and a warm ceiling lamp, unless you want a deliberately mixed look.
Choose distance and field of view for natural proportions
Very close selfies exaggerate whichever facial features are nearest the lens. Noses and foreheads can appear larger, while the sides of the face recede. The practical fix is to move the phone farther away and crop the finished image rather than filling the frame from arm’s length.

For a group, step back first and only then select a wider view if needed. Keep the tallest or outermost people away from the extreme edges, where lens geometry is most noticeable. The exact S27 lens options remain unresolved.

Compose with grid and level aids
Turn on grid lines
- Open the Camera app.
- Open Camera settings.
- Enable Grid lines (the exact label or location can vary by One UI version).
Use a horizontal line to keep your eyes and the horizon level. Leave a small amount of space above the hair rather than pressing the top of the head against the frame. Grid lines are an alignment aid, not a rule that requires your eyes to sit on a particular intersection.

Use level assistance when the scene demands it
Samsung camera updates document grid and level assistance. If your build shows a level indicator, use it for a straight horizon, architecture or a full-body composition. Disable or ignore it when a deliberately tilted image is part of the look.
Set the phone slightly above eye level
Hold the phone a little above your eyes and angle it down gently. This position can define the jaw and prevent the camera from looking upward into the nostrils. Keep the tilt modest; a steep angle changes facial proportions and can make the forehead dominate.
Turn the shoulders, not just the head
Rotate your shoulders slightly while keeping your face relaxed. This creates depth and avoids a flat passport-photo posture. Look at the lens for direct eye contact; looking at your own preview makes the eyes appear off-camera.
Set brightness for the face, not the brightest background
Tap the face and inspect highlights
Tap your face in the preview to place focus and exposure where the skin is. If the forehead, cheeks or nose lose texture, reduce brightness slightly with the on-screen exposure control. A face that is a little darker but detailed is easier to correct than clipped white skin.

Understand exposure persistence
Samsung documents exposure settings that can persist by shooting mode. If a later selfie looks unexpectedly dark or bright after you changed exposure, check whether the camera retained the previous adjustment and reset it for the current light.
Use monitoring tools only where supported
On supported models and modes, Samsung documents zebra patterns and false-color exposure monitors in Pro controls. These tools can reveal areas approaching clipping, but they may not appear for the eventual S27 front camera. Confirm their presence on the device rather than assuming a Pro option applies to selfies.
Keep color effects restrained
Samsung documents filters with adjustable intensity, color temperature, contrast and saturation. Start at low intensity, then compare the result with the unfiltered preview. Excessive warmth can turn skin orange; high saturation can erase subtle tones; heavy contrast can make under-eye shadows look deeper.
Face effects and smoothing
Camera updates include adjustable face-effect controls on supported software. Reduce smoothing until pores and natural texture remain visible. If a slider changes facial shape, use the smallest setting that solves a specific concern rather than applying a strong preset.

- Set the scene. Face a window or open shade, remove a bright source from directly behind you, and choose a simple background.
- Clean and stabilize. Wipe the front lens, hold the phone with two hands or brace an elbow, and place any support on a stable surface.
- Set composition. Enable grid lines, hold the phone slightly above eye level, leave headroom and turn your shoulders a little.
- Choose distance. Move farther away for more natural proportions. Use the standard view for one person; use a wider option only if the released software offers it and you need the extra width.
- Set exposure. Tap the face and lower brightness if bright skin areas lose detail. Recheck after moving relative to the window.
- Choose a light look. Keep filter intensity, temperature, contrast, saturation and face effects low enough to preserve natural texture.
- Capture multiple frames. Take several images or use a motion-photo sequence if your camera app provides one. Samsung has not confirmed a specific S27 motion-photo implementation, so verify what your phone actually records.
- Review before sharing. Zoom to 100 percent and inspect the eyes, hairline and brightest skin areas. Select the frame with open eyes, a relaxed expression and no motion blur.

Make space before changing the lens choice
Ask everyone to move slightly closer together and step backward yourself. More camera distance generally gives a more natural arrangement than holding a wide view inches from the nearest face.

Keep people out of the distortion zone
Place faces near the center portion of the frame and avoid putting someone’s face at an extreme corner. If the group is wide, arrange people in a shallow arc rather than a straight line extending toward the edges.
Leave deliberate headroom
Use the grid to check the tallest person’s hair and the lowest person’s shoulders. A little extra space is safer than cropping hair; you can trim the sides later.
Check every face across several frames
One person blinking can ruin an otherwise sharp group shot. Capture a short series and inspect each face, especially people at the edges. Do not assume that a motion-photo feature works identically across S27 models until Samsung documents it.

Inspect at 100 percent
At full-size view, check both eyes, eyelashes, hairline and bright skin patches. A preview can hide slight motion blur or smeared highlights that become obvious when the image is posted or printed.
Make targeted corrections
Prefer small changes to brightness, highlights and crop. If the background is distracting, crop from the sides before increasing face smoothing. Preserve pores, fine hair and the natural shape of the nose and jaw.
AI editing availability is model- and rollout-dependent
On February 18, 2026, Samsung Mobile Press described natural-language photo editing and restoration concepts for Galaxy cameras. Exact S27/S27+ support, regional availability and rollout timing must be confirmed on the released device. Treat any missing AI option as a software-availability issue, not evidence that the camera is defective.

What to verify after the S27 launch
When Samsung publishes final S27 and S27+ specifications, check the front-camera resolution, lens angle, autofocus behavior, portrait modes, wider selfie options, motion-photo behavior and support for exposure-monitoring or AI-editing features. Those details can change the best choice for group framing and editing, but they do not replace the fundamentals: soft light on the face, a clean and steady phone, sensible distance, accurate exposure and restrained processing.
