Press the Side (Power) key and Volume Down together briefly, then release when the screen flashes. For other needs, turn on Palm swipe to capture, use Scroll capture for a long page, or choose Smart select with the S Pen to save just part of the screen.
Take a full-screen screenshot with the buttons
- Press the Side (Power) key and Volume Down at the same time.
- Release them after a brief moment. A screen flash indicates the screenshot was taken.
- If a preview appears, tap it to edit or share the image.
Use a quick press rather than holding the buttons. A long hold may open the power menu. If the shortcut behaves differently, check your phone’s on-screen prompts; button behavior can vary with device and software. Samsung US Support’s button instructions and Samsung UK Support’s guidance describe the brief simultaneous press.
Capture without pressing the buttons
Turn on Palm swipe to capture
- Open Settings > Advanced features > Motions and gestures.
- Turn on Palm swipe to capture.
- Swipe the edge of your hand across the display to take a screenshot.
The gesture does not work while the keyboard is showing. Settings and gesture availability can vary by model and software version. Samsung US Support explains Palm swipe and other motion controls.
Capture a long page or document
- Take a regular screenshot while the long page or document is open.
- If Scroll capture appears in the screenshot controls, tap it to extend the screenshot farther down the content.
- Tap Scroll capture again as needed to continue capturing more of the page.
Scroll capture makes a longer still image; it is not a screen recording. The control may not appear in every context, and interface availability can vary by model and software. Samsung Gulf Support’s screenshot guidance, updated June 11, 2026, describes the feature.

Save only part of the screen with S Pen Smart select
- Open the S Pen’s Air command menu.
- Tap Smart select, then choose a shape such as a rectangle or oval.
- Draw around the content you want to capture.
- Use the available options to pin, copy, draw on, extract text from, share, or save the selection.
The S Pen Smart select workflow is useful when you want a selected region rather than a full-screen capture. You do not need the S Pen for ordinary screenshots. Samsung’s Galaxy S24 Ultra S Pen guide describes Smart select and its follow-up options.
Find your screenshots
Open Gallery > Albums > Screenshots to view saved screenshots. Samsung US Support documents this album location.

Why a screenshot may not work
Some apps or screens block screenshots for privacy or security. If capture fails only in a particular protected area or you see a security restriction message, the app or device may be preventing capture intentionally—not indicating that you pressed the buttons incorrectly. Samsung Canada Support, updated June 25, 2026, notes that restrictions can apply to some screens.
