On most Samsung Galaxy phones, press the Side (or Power) button and Volume Down at the same time, then release after a brief moment. A screen flash indicates the capture, which you can find in Gallery. If you need a hands-free option or want to capture a long page, Samsung also offers model-dependent gestures, assistant commands, and Scroll capture.
Take a screenshot with the buttons
- Open the screen you want to capture.
- Press the Side or Power button and Volume Down simultaneously.
- Release both buttons after a brief moment. A screen flash indicates the screenshot was taken.
Button names and placement can vary by model. If the keys are arranged differently or the shortcut does not work, check the manual for your exact Galaxy device. Samsung’s screenshot instructions and the Galaxy Z Flip6 manual describe the button method.
Other ways to capture the screen
Use Palm swipe
On supported models, enable Palm swipe to capture under Settings > Advanced features > Motions and gestures. Then swipe the edge of your hand across the display. The option may be unavailable on some models or software versions, and Samsung says the gesture does not work while the keyboard is showing. See Samsung’s guidance on motions and gestures.

Samsung lists Bixby Voice and Google Assistant as hands-free screenshot options. You need the relevant assistant available and enabled on your device; the exact setup and command experience can differ.

Use Screen write with an S Pen
On a compatible device, open Air command and select Screen write. The screen is captured, and you can write or draw on it before saving it to Gallery. This is an optional, model-dependent feature.
Use the Tasks Edge panel
Some Galaxy devices provide a Take screenshot shortcut in the Tasks Edge panel. The panel may need to be enabled or configured, and its availability varies.

Capture a long webpage or document
- Take a regular screenshot while viewing the scrollable page.
- When the screenshot toolbar appears, tap Scroll capture, shown as a down-arrow icon.
- Continue tapping the control to add more of the page, then stop when you have captured the section you need.
Scroll capture is intended for content that extends beyond the screen. The control may not appear when the page does not continue below the visible area or when an app does not support capture. Samsung describes the feature in its screenshot instructions and Z Flip6 manual.

Open Gallery, choose Albums, and open Screenshots. The screenshot toolbar may offer drawing, cropping, and sharing controls; the available options depend on your model, software, and settings. Samsung’s Z Flip6 manual also describes adding tags.

Fix common screenshot problems
The button shortcut does not capture
- Press both buttons together and release after a brief moment rather than holding them down.
- Check the exact device manual for button names and placement.
Palm swipe is missing or does not work
- Look under Settings > Advanced features > Motions and gestures to see whether Palm swipe to capture is available and enabled.
- Dismiss the keyboard before trying the gesture.
- Keep in mind that motion and gesture availability varies by model and software version, as Samsung notes in its gesture guidance.
A screenshot is blocked
Some apps or screens block screenshots for privacy or security reasons. Samsung does not establish a universal workaround for protected screens, so a different capture method may not help.
