To switch a Samsung TV to HDMI, open Home > Connected Devices and choose the HDMI input used by your device. If your remote has a Source button, press it and select the same numbered HDMI port. The menu layout varies by TV model and country.
Choose the HDMI input connected to your device
The HDMI number in the TV menu should match the number printed beside the physical port the device is plugged into. If the device is connected to HDMI 2, select HDMI 2—not just any listed input. A cable or satellite box may be detected and renamed automatically, but you can select its port manually if that does not happen. Samsung’s source-selection guidance notes that options can differ by model and country.
Use the on-screen menu with a Smart Remote
- Press Home on the remote.
- Move left and select Connected Devices.
- Choose the HDMI input that matches the device’s physical port.
Use a dedicated Source button
- Press Source on the remote.
- Select the HDMI input matching the port in use.
Some Samsung remotes do not have a Source button, so use the Home menu instead. Samsung also supports universal-remote setup for some connected devices; the process depends on the device category and TV interface. See Samsung’s universal remote instructions or the applicable model guidance.
Connect a device if it is not listed or the screen is blank
- Turn off the TV and source device before connecting them.
- Connect the device’s HDMI OUT port to an available HDMI IN port on the TV or One Connect Box. Note the port number.
- Turn on both devices, then select the matching HDMI input from the TV menu.

- Check that the source device is powered on and that the TV is set to the port where it is connected.
- Check that the HDMI cable is seated at both ends. If connection or Anynet+ behavior is unreliable, Samsung suggests trying a different high-speed HDMI cable; this is a troubleshooting step, not a guaranteed fix.
- Power-cycle the connected devices and check whether firmware updates are available.
- If you want only to watch the device, select its HDMI input manually; HDMI-CEC support is not required for manual source selection.

Understand Anynet+ and automatic HDMI switching
Anynet+ is Samsung’s name for HDMI-CEC, which allows compatible devices to communicate over HDMI. When the TV and connected device support it, Anynet+ can enable some device controls through the TV remote and may turn on the TV or switch inputs when a device starts. An HDMI cable alone does not guarantee these behaviors. See Samsung’s explanation of Anynet+ and HDMI-CEC.

Stop the TV switching to HDMI by itself
A connected HDMI device can send a signal that prompts the TV to change inputs, even when you are not using that device. Samsung recommends updating the TV software, then checking the external device’s firmware. If the unwanted switching continues, contact the device maker about its CEC behavior. Samsung’s troubleshooting steps are at Samsung TV switches sources by itself.
Turning off Anynet+ can prevent switching caused by CEC, but it also removes the related cross-device control convenience. If you also have a TV power-on or power-off issue, Samsung has separate TV and projector power troubleshooting.
