With the headset powered on and connected to an audio source, double-press the physical Razer SmartSwitch button. The Barracuda V2 Pro changes between its USB Type-C HyperSpeed Wireless (2.4 GHz) dongle connection and Bluetooth. A green LED indicates HyperSpeed mode, blue indicates Bluetooth, and white means both links are present while HyperSpeed is prioritized.
The quickest way to change modes
The Barracuda V2 Pro does not require you to open a desktop or phone application to change wireless sources. The SmartSwitch button on the headset is the control that toggles between the USB dongle and Bluetooth.
- Power on the headset. The mode switch is available while the headset is on.
- Connect the headset to an audio source. This can be the source currently using the USB Type-C HyperSpeed Wireless dongle or a paired Bluetooth device.
- Double-press the Razer SmartSwitch button. Two presses, rather than one, tell the headset to change wireless source.
- Wait for the status light and audio route to change. The headset toggles between the dongle’s 2.4 GHz connection and the Bluetooth audio source.
- Check the LED color. Green means HyperSpeed Wireless, blue means Bluetooth, and white means both connections are present with HyperSpeed given priority.
Razer’s Barracuda Pro Master Guide describes the operation this way: “When powered on and connected to any audio source, double press the Razer SmartSwitch button to switch between the USB Type C wireless dongle and Bluetooth audio source or vice versa.”

What the two wireless connections are
The headset has two distinct wireless paths. The first is the USB Type-C HyperSpeed Wireless dongle, which uses the 2.4 GHz band. The dongle is the small USB accessory that your computer, console, or other host detects as a wireless audio device. The second path is standard Bluetooth, used by a phone, tablet, laptop, or another Bluetooth audio source.

SmartSwitch does not merge the two links into one audio stream. It selects which source supplies the active audio. If both links are available, the LED can be white because both connections exist, but HyperSpeed remains the selected path until you double-press SmartSwitch to move to Bluetooth.
The support record identifies this headset family as model RZ04-03780. If your label, packaging, or support page shows a different Barracuda model number, confirm that its controls and instructions match before applying this procedure.
How to switch from the USB dongle to Bluetooth
1. Leave the dongle connected if you need it later
You do not have to remove the USB Type-C dongle to use Bluetooth. In fact, leaving it plugged in is the situation that often causes confusion: the headset treats a connected dongle as an intention to use 2.4 GHz. The SmartSwitch button is the intended way to override that preference temporarily.
2. Turn on the headset and confirm it is active
Power on the Barracuda V2 Pro and make sure it has an audio connection. If the headset is off, a button press cannot perform the source toggle. If the host has muted the output, unmute it long enough to confirm which device is producing sound.

3. Double-press SmartSwitch
Press the SmartSwitch button twice in quick succession. The headset changes from the HyperSpeed dongle to Bluetooth. Do not interpret a single press as a mode command; the documented action is a double press.
4. Identify the Bluetooth result
When Bluetooth is selected, the headset first attempts to reconnect to the last known Bluetooth device. If no known Bluetooth device is found, pairing mode activates, allowing a new host to discover the headset. Open the host’s Bluetooth settings and select the Barracuda V2 Pro if it appears as an available device.
5. Confirm blue status
A blue LED confirms Bluetooth mode. Play a short sound from the Bluetooth device rather than relying only on the light; this catches cases where the headset has connected to a different previously used device.

Verify that the host sees the dongle
The dongle must be physically available to the device you want to use. If it is plugged into a different computer, a powered-off hub, or a host that does not expose the USB connection, the headset cannot establish the HyperSpeed path there. Move the dongle to the intended host, allow that host to recognize it, and then perform the double press.
Read the LED and test audio
Green indicates that HyperSpeed Wireless is the active mode. If the LED is white, both Bluetooth and HyperSpeed connections are present, but HyperSpeed has priority; play audio from the host attached to the dongle to verify the route.
LED colors: a practical status guide
| LED color | What it means | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Green | HyperSpeed Wireless 2.4 GHz mode is active. | Use the host connected to the USB Type-C dongle for audio. |
| Blue | Bluetooth mode is active. | Use the connected Bluetooth source, or complete pairing if the headset entered pairing mode. |
| White | Both HyperSpeed and Bluetooth connections are present, with HyperSpeed prioritized. | Double-press SmartSwitch if you want Bluetooth to become the selected source. |
The white indication is not an error by itself. It tells you that the headset knows about both wireless links; the priority rule explains why audio may still come from the dongle until you explicitly toggle to Bluetooth.
Why plugging in the dongle can send audio back to 2.4 GHz
Razer treats insertion of the USB wireless dongle as an indication that you intend to use the dongle. Consequently, HyperSpeed 2.4 GHz receives priority when the dongle is connected. This is why a headset that was playing Bluetooth audio can appear to “switch back” as soon as you insert the dongle.

- Please Note: To reach 10Gbps speed, keep the cable under 3.3 ft. For USB A Male to USB C adapters, try flipping the USB C connector. USB C Male to USB A adapters support bidirectional 10Gbps transfer within 3.3 ft
That behavior is intentional rather than a failure to remember your Bluetooth device. Keep the dongle connected and double-press SmartSwitch after insertion when Bluetooth is the desired source. If you remove and reinsert the dongle later, expect the priority decision to apply again and use SmartSwitch to select Bluetooth.
Bluetooth reconnection and pairing behavior
When a previously used device is nearby
After you select Bluetooth, the headset attempts to reconnect to the last known Bluetooth device. Keep that phone, tablet, or computer powered on with Bluetooth enabled if you want the automatic reconnection to succeed. If several devices are nearby, check which one is listed as connected in its Bluetooth settings before starting playback.
When no known device is found
If the last known device cannot be found, the headset activates pairing mode. This allows a new or newly reset host to discover it. On the host, open the Bluetooth device list, choose the Barracuda V2 Pro when it appears, and wait for the connection confirmation before selecting it as the audio output.
When a different device keeps taking the connection
Bluetooth reconnection is based on the last known Bluetooth device, not necessarily the device you are holding. Temporarily disable Bluetooth on the unwanted nearby device or disconnect the headset from that device through its Bluetooth settings. Then double-press SmartSwitch again and pair or reconnect from the intended host.

Choosing HyperSpeed or Bluetooth for a particular job
The official connection documentation identifies how each mode works, but it does not publish independent latency measurements, reliability tests, or numeric range results. The table below therefore describes practical requirements without inventing performance figures.
| Decision factor | USB Type-C HyperSpeed Wireless | Bluetooth |
|---|---|---|
| Connection method | USB Type-C wireless dongle using 2.4 GHz. | Bluetooth radio connection to a paired audio source. |
| Dongle required | Yes. The dongle must be connected to the host you want to hear. | No dongle is needed on the Bluetooth host. |
| Device compatibility | Requires a host that can use the USB Type-C dongle and recognize it as an audio device. | Requires a host with compatible Bluetooth audio support and a completed pairing or reconnection. |
| Responsiveness or latency | No independent numeric measurement is stated in the official sources. | No independent numeric measurement is stated in the official sources. |
| Range | No numeric range is stated in the official sources. | No numeric range is stated in the official sources. |
| Priority when both are connected | Prioritized; the LED appears white when both links are present. | Available as the alternate source, but not selected until SmartSwitch toggles to it. |
| Best reason to select it | You need the host attached to the USB dongle. | You need the last known Bluetooth device or a new Bluetooth pairing and do not want to rely on the dongle. |
For games, calls, music, or video, choose based on the host you need to hear and whether the dongle is physically available. The sources do not establish a numerical latency advantage for either mode, so avoid treating an advertised or assumed number as a tested result for this headset.
Switching between a computer and a phone
Computer through HyperSpeed, phone through Bluetooth
- Connect the USB Type-C dongle to the computer and let the computer recognize it.
- Pair the headset with the phone through Bluetooth, or ensure the phone is the last known Bluetooth device.
- Use the computer while the LED is green. The headset can retain the Bluetooth connection as an available link.
- When you want phone audio, double-press SmartSwitch and look for the blue LED.
- To return to computer audio, double-press SmartSwitch again and confirm green status.
Phone through Bluetooth, computer without the dongle
If the dongle is not connected to the computer, Bluetooth is the available wireless path on that computer. Select the headset in the computer’s Bluetooth settings, then use SmartSwitch only when you need to change between that Bluetooth host and another remembered source. A dongle-free setup cannot produce HyperSpeed audio on that computer because the 2.4 GHz accessory is not attached.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesTroubleshooting the mode switch
The double press does nothing
- Confirm the headset is powered on.
- Make sure it is connected to an audio source; the documented toggle is performed while powered on and connected.
- Press SmartSwitch twice, not once, and avoid pressing another control between the two presses.
- Watch for a color change and test audio from the intended host.
The LED is green when Bluetooth is expected
- Green means HyperSpeed is still active.
- If the dongle is plugged in, its presence is giving 2.4 GHz priority.
- Double-press SmartSwitch to select Bluetooth, then check for blue.
- If blue does not appear, verify that the last known Bluetooth device is powered on and has Bluetooth enabled, or complete pairing when pairing mode activates.
The LED is blue but there is no sound
- Check that the intended phone, tablet, or computer shows the headset as connected.
- Set the Barracuda V2 Pro as the host’s active audio output; a Bluetooth connection can exist while another output remains selected.
- Pause audio on other nearby Bluetooth devices so the last-known-device reconnection does not send playback elsewhere.
- If no known device is found, use the host’s Bluetooth list to select the headset while pairing mode is active.
The LED is white and audio comes from the wrong host
White means both links are present, but HyperSpeed has priority. If Bluetooth should supply audio, double-press SmartSwitch and confirm blue. If the dongle should supply audio, leave the mode on HyperSpeed and play from the host connected to that dongle.
The computer does not detect the dongle
- Check that the USB Type-C dongle is fully inserted into the intended host.
- Use the host’s audio-device list to confirm that the wireless device is available.
- After the host recognizes the dongle, perform the SmartSwitch double press to select HyperSpeed.
- If the accessory is absent, damaged, or unavailable, Bluetooth is the alternative connection; the headset cannot create a 2.4 GHz link without the dongle.
Preventing accidental source changes
- Use a deliberate two-press action; a single press is not the documented switching command.
- Check the LED before starting a call or game so you know which host is active.
- Remember that inserting the dongle can restore HyperSpeed priority. If you insert it during Bluetooth playback, check the LED and switch back with SmartSwitch when needed.
- Keep only the Bluetooth device you intend to use available when automatic reconnection matters. The headset reconnects to its last known Bluetooth device when one is found.
- When moving between rooms or hosts, carry the USB Type-C dongle if HyperSpeed access is required; Bluetooth mode does not substitute for a missing dongle on a host that lacks Bluetooth audio.
Required hardware and identification checklist
- Razer Barracuda V2 Pro headset from the RZ04-03780 model family.
- A charged and powered-on headset.
- The USB Type-C HyperSpeed Wireless dongle for 2.4 GHz operation.
- A Bluetooth-capable audio source for Bluetooth operation.
- For first-time Bluetooth use, access to the host’s Bluetooth settings so you can select the headset when pairing mode appears.
The SmartSwitch button is the physical control that changes connectivity modes. No separate numeric delay, range figure, or reliability percentage is established by the official records, so the reliable confirmation is the LED color plus audio from the host you selected.
