WARDOGS has three factions—Valkyra, Lonestar, and Manticore—and its team structure is designed to let players drop in and out. But switching is not always available: Season 2 rules reported by GamesRadar say a lead of more than 10 points can trigger a 15-minute team-switch lockout. For rewards, keep official match cash separate from money and XP offered by independent community servers.

How team switching works

Bulkhead’s pinned WARDOGS FAQ, last edited September 10, 2026, names the three teams as Valkyra, Lonestar, and Manticore. The developer describes the game as drop-in/drop-out: players may join for different lengths of time, and Bulkhead says a one-player headcount difference does not by itself create an unfair advantage. In other words, the design expects friends to enter and leave sessions rather than requiring every player to remain for an entire match.

That flexibility does not mean you can freely change sides at any moment. GamesRadar’s October 2026 report on Season 2, which quotes Bulkhead and its patch notes, describes restrictions intended to limit late switches that could decide a match. The rules are aimed at team balance, not at permanently locking you to your first faction.

What the Season 2 restriction means

  • When a team is more than 10 points ahead, a player who has joined a team cannot switch teams for 15 minutes, according to the Season 2 details reported by GamesRadar.
  • Bulkhead’s stated rationale, as quoted in that report, is to stop late switching from deciding matches while still allowing players to join friends when needed.
  • If you switch teams or join a match already underway, your map remains obscured until you reach the Control Zone for the first time.
  • You also cannot use the spawn vehicle until you have reached the Control Zone for the first time after switching or joining mid-match.

Think of the restriction as two separate rules. The score-based rule controls whether a team change is permitted at all. The Control Zone rule controls what information and transport are available after a permitted switch or a late join. Reaching the zone does not necessarily override a 15-minute switching lockout; it clears the reported map and spawn-vehicle limitations attached to the switch or mid-match entry.

These are reported Season 2 rules, not a guarantee that every later build behaves identically. WARDOGS is in Steam Early Access, so menus, team rules, reward values, and timing can change. If the game blocks a switch or the restrictions differ from these details, follow the current in-game prompt and check the latest patch notes.

Finding the team-change option

An independent WARDOGS Actual reference describes a likely Season 1 method: press Escape and select CHANGE TEAM, if the desired faction has an open slot. That is a useful place to start looking, but it is not a confirmed current Season 2 menu path. Bulkhead’s FAQ does not document the current sequence, so do not assume the same key or label is still present.

  1. Open the current in-game menu and look for its team or faction-change option. Treat the older Escape > CHANGE TEAM route as a lead, not a confirmed instruction.
  2. Check whether your chosen team has space and whether a match restriction is active. If the game will not let you switch, read its prompt rather than repeatedly trying to change sides.
  3. Before confirming, note that your map may remain obscured and the spawn vehicle may be unavailable. Plan your first movement to the Control Zone without relying on either feature.
  4. After a permitted switch—or after joining a match in progress—reach the Control Zone on foot. Season 2 reporting says the map and spawn-vehicle restrictions last until that first visit.
  5. Once the zone has been reached, reassess the map and transport options shown by your current build. If they remain unavailable, use the prompt or current support information rather than assuming the restriction has failed to clear.

When switching is a bad idea

A team change can be technically available and still be strategically inconvenient. Joining late may leave you with obscured map information and no spawn vehicle until you make the first trip to the Control Zone. If the match is already close to ending, that travel time may be more important than the faction you prefer.

Switching also changes your immediate tactical context. Your new team may be positioned far from the Control Zone, have a different frontline, or be relying on a specific objective plan. The available rules do not promise a safe spawn, a reset of your equipment purchases, or a refund for gear bought before the change. Check what the game displays in the live build before confirming.

If you are changing only to join a friend, the Season 2 rationale specifically preserves that use case. If you are trying to move to the winning side near the end of a match, expect the 10-point condition and 15-minute lockout to work against that move.

How to track official in-game cash

WARDOGS uses persistent cash: Team17 says players start with $10,000, spend money on gear for each life, and retain cash from one match to the next. That makes cash different from a one-match score. A purchase can reduce the amount available for later gear, while qualifying teamplay actions add to the in-game bankroll.

The $10,000 figure is a starting amount described by Team17, not a promise that every account or later balance will display exactly that number. Your current total can change through purchases and earned cash. Keep the starting figure as a reference point, then use the balance shown in your build as the authoritative amount for your account.

Actions that earn cash

Team17 identifies reviving squadmates, transporting friendly players to the zone, and controlling the objective as cash-earning teamplay actions. These examples reward cooperation rather than simply measuring eliminations. They also explain why a support-focused round can improve your bankroll even when your personal combat score is modest.

Team17 also describes the Hot Zone as a way to earn double cash. The description establishes the multiplier concept, but the official page does not provide a complete current payout table or specify every condition that activates it. Treat the Hot Zone as an opportunity to check your balance and reward feedback, not as a guaranteed dollar amount for a particular action.

A community Field Guide groups reward events into combat and support, construction, match bonuses, and drill. Its examples include reviving a player, delivering a player, zone presence, building, and match placement. That list can help you recognize event names when they appear, but it is a community reference rather than an authoritative publisher payout schedule. Check the current game for actual values.

A practical tracking routine

  1. Record the opening balance. Before buying gear, note the cash or balance displayed in your current build. The official descriptions establish the persistent economy, but do not specify an exact screen name or menu path.
  2. Separate income from spending. Write down major gear purchases for each life. A lower post-match total may reflect spending even if you earned cash during the round.
  3. Mark reward-bearing actions. Remember when you revived squadmates, transported friendlies to the zone, helped control the objective, built, maintained zone presence, or placed in a match. The official and community descriptions identify these as useful categories, but they do not establish a universal payout for every event.
  4. Check special conditions. If the Hot Zone is active, Team17 says it offers double cash. Note that circumstance separately so you do not compare it with an ordinary round as though the same multiplier applied.
  5. Review the end-of-match information. After the match, compare the displayed balance with your earlier amount and review any current match or end-of-match reward breakdown. The precise location and labels for those displays are not documented in the cited official material, so use the screens available in your build.
  6. Reconcile the result. Start with the opening balance, subtract gear costs, and compare the result with the ending balance. If the numbers do not align, look for an unrecorded purchase, a reward event you missed, or a menu value that the current interface reports differently.
  7. Track over several matches. One round can include unusual spending or a Hot Zone bonus. A short record across multiple matches gives you a better view of how your playstyle affects the persistent bankroll without assuming an unverified fixed payout.

What the official information does not establish

Team17’s game page establishes the $10,000 starting cash, persistence between matches, gear spending, and examples of cash-earning teamplay. It does not document a complete reward-value table, a guaranteed exact screen name, or a universal step-by-step route to a reward history panel. Do not rely on a guide that presents precise amounts or menu labels as permanent unless the live game confirms them.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

It also does not establish that every kind of XP, unlock, or progression statistic uses the same persistent-cash system. If a separate screen shows XP or an unlock, record it as its own value until the game identifies how it connects to cash.

Do not confuse game cash with community-server rewards

WARDOGS Fight Club advertises its own rewards for chat and voice activity: server money and XP that users can spend at its Bank on crates, materials, gear, and bases. It also says it runs a monthly community giveaway, with entry details on Discord. These are claims about that independent community’s system, not official match cash or publisher-issued progression.

The community explicitly says it is not affiliated with Bulkhead or Team17. Its server currency should therefore be treated as a separate account or server benefit. The available description does not establish that its money transfers into WARDOGS, appears in your official balance, unlocks official gear, or changes your account XP.

What to compare Official WARDOGS economy WARDOGS Fight Club community system
Who issues it WARDOGS, as described by Team17 and Bulkhead An independent community; it says it is not affiliated with Bulkhead or Team17
How rewards are earned In-match cash from actions including revives, transporting friendlies, and objective control Server money and XP advertised for chat and voice activity; the community also advertises a monthly giveaway
Where they are used Persistent in-game cash for gear and the game’s economy The community says its Bank offers crates, materials, gear, and bases
How to verify them Use the balance and match or end-of-match information shown in the game Use the community’s server, Bank, and Discord instructions
Can one balance be used in the other system? Not established by the cited sources Not established by the cited sources

If you are checking a reward, first identify where it appeared. A balance or item in the community’s Bank is not evidence that your official in-game cash, XP, unlocks, or account progression changed. Conversely, an official cash increase will not prove that you earned server money or qualified for the community giveaway.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Do not describe the Fight Club system as a publisher reward when explaining your account history. It can be useful if you participate in that community, but its rules, balances, giveaway schedule, and spending options belong to the community and may change independently of the game.

Season 2 vendor discount: a separate team-standing benefit

GamesRadar’s report also describes a 20% vendor discount for a team that is 40 points behind second place. The report says the discount applies to all teams. This is a team-standing benefit, not a personal cash deposit, and it should be tracked separately from your balance.

The discount is also separate from the 10-point lead condition for switching. Being eligible for a vendor discount does not establish that you may switch teams, that a switch will qualify you for the discount, or that your personal account will receive 20% more cash. Treat the reported 40-point and 20% figures as Season 2 rules that can be changed by later patches.

Pre-switch and pre-match checklist

  • Identify your current faction and the faction you want: Valkyra, Lonestar, or Manticore.
  • Look for the current team-change control, remembering that Escape > CHANGE TEAM comes from a likely Season 1 reference and may not match today’s interface.
  • Check whether the desired team has an open slot.
  • Read any score-based restriction. A team more than 10 points ahead may trigger the reported 15-minute lockout after joining a team.
  • If joining late, expect the map to remain obscured and the spawn vehicle to be unavailable until your first Control Zone visit.
  • Note your cash before buying gear and distinguish the balance from your match score.
  • Decide whether a reward appeared in the official game or in an independent community Bank.
  • Use current prompts and patch notes if a rule, value, or menu differs from an older guide.

Quick checks when switching or rewards do not look right

  • The team option is missing or unavailable: Check the current match prompt, team capacity, and any active switching restriction. The older Escape-menu instructions may no longer match the live interface.
  • The desired faction has no open slot: The older team-change reference says an open slot was required. Wait for the live game’s direction rather than assuming a forced switch is possible.
  • A 15-minute lockout appears: Confirm whether a team is more than 10 points ahead and whether you have already joined a team. The reported rule is designed to limit late switching, not to indicate a permanent account penalty.
  • Your map is obscured or the spawn vehicle is unavailable: If you switched or joined after the match started, reach the Control Zone once; Season 2 reporting says both restrictions last until then.
  • You cannot tell whether the first Control Zone visit counted: Follow the current objective marker or prompt and verify the map and transport state afterward. Do not assume that simply moving toward the zone has cleared the restriction.
  • Your cash fell after a match: Compare the balance with your gear purchases as well as earned cash. Players buy equipment for each life, and the official economy carries cash between matches.
  • Your cash did not rise after support play: Confirm that the game’s current reward display recorded the action. Revives, transporting friendlies, and objective control are named examples, but no fixed payout table is promised.
  • A Hot Zone round does not match an ordinary round: Team17 says the Hot Zone offers double cash. Compare the conditions and spending before concluding that a balance is incorrect.
  • A reward appears only in a community Bank: Treat it as a community-server reward unless the game itself shows it in the official account or balance. No transfer between the systems is established.
  • A reported value or rule seems different: WARDOGS is in Steam Early Access, and team rules, menus, and reward values can change. Use the live build’s prompts and current patch notes over older references.

What you need to play and track rewards

WARDOGS is presented by Team17 as a digital game in Steam Early Access and is also listed as available through GeForce NOW. The switching and tracking tasks described here do not require a special physical tool, edition, or paid accessory. A keyboard, controller, or other peripheral may be convenient, but it does not change the team rules or make either reward system interchangeable.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Because the game is in Early Access, the practical cost of following an older guide is confusion: you may search for a menu label that was renamed, expect a reward value that changed, or mistake a community balance for official currency. Verify the interface and account display in the build you are actually playing.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I switch teams in the middle of a WARDOGS match?

Sometimes, but not always. GamesRadar’s report on Season 2 says that when a team is more than 10 points ahead, a player who has joined a team cannot switch for 15 minutes. Team capacity and the current interface can also matter. Use the live prompt rather than assuming switching is guaranteed.

What are the WARDOGS teams?

The three factions identified in Bulkhead’s pinned FAQ are Valkyra, Lonestar, and Manticore.

Why is my map obscured after switching or joining late?

Season 2 reporting says your map remains obscured until you reach the Control Zone for the first time after switching or joining a match already in progress.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Why can’t I use the spawn vehicle?

The reported Season 2 rule disables the spawn vehicle until you first reach the Control Zone after switching teams or joining mid-match.

Which actions earn official WARDOGS cash?

Team17 names reviving squadmates, transporting friendly players to the zone, and controlling the objective. It also describes the Hot Zone as offering double cash. Exact current payouts are not documented in the official material cited here.

Is WARDOGS Fight Club money official WARDOGS currency?

No official connection is established. WARDOGS Fight Club describes its own server money, XP, Bank items, and monthly giveaway, and says it is not affiliated with Bulkhead or Team17.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

What is the Season 2 vendor discount?

GamesRadar reports a 20% vendor discount for a team 40 points behind second place, applying to all teams. It is a team-standing benefit, not a personal cash reward or a switching entitlement.

The Bottom Line

WARDOGS supports drop-in/drop-out team play, but Season 2 reporting adds a 15-minute switch lockout when a team leads by more than 10 points. After switching or joining late, reach the Control Zone before relying on the map or spawn vehicle. Track the official $10,000-starting, persistent cash economy separately from WARDOGS Fight Club’s independent server money, XP, and giveaways, and verify every menu or value in the current Early Access build.
