To see Facebook posts newest first, open the Feeds tab and choose the combined feed or a filter such as Friends, Favorites, Pages or Groups. If your account still shows Most Recent, select that option. Facebook’s Home tab is a separate, personalized ranking and will continue to mix posts according to predicted relevance rather than posting time.
The quickest way to get newest posts first
- Open Facebook in the mobile app or on the web.
- Open Feeds from the shortcut bar, Menu or desktop navigation.
- Select the source view you want: the combined feed, Friends, Favorites, Pages or Groups.
- If Most Recent appears in your Feed Filter Bar or Shortcuts menu, select it. Meta defines that view as chronological, with the newest posts first.
Feeds is a destination you revisit; it does not permanently replace Home as Facebook’s opening tab. When you open Facebook normally, Home may still load first and show ranked content.
Think of the switch as choosing a different destination, not changing Facebook’s entire ranking system. Home can remain personalized while Feeds supplies a chronological stream from the accounts and communities already connected to you.

Open Feeds from the shortcut bar
- Launch the Facebook app and sign in.
- Look at the shortcut bar. On iPhone and iPad it may be at the bottom; on Android it may be at the top.
- Tap Feeds.
- Choose the feed that matches what you want to follow. Friends limits the view to friends, Favorites prioritizes selected accounts, and Pages or Groups limits it to those communities. The combined Feeds view brings connected sources together.
The tabs displayed in the shortcut bar can change with usage and account configuration, so Feeds may not be visible every time you open the app. Swipe or scroll the bar if only the first few shortcuts are shown.

Open Feeds through Menu
- Tap the Menu button (the three-line icon, whose position depends on your device and app build).
- Select Feeds. If it is not on the first screen, use the Menu’s navigation search or browse the available shortcuts.
- Pick Friends, Favorites, Pages, Groups or the combined feed.
On some versions, Feeds opens first to the last filter you used. Confirm the heading or filter label before scrolling so you know whether you are viewing everyone in the combined stream or only one category.
Use Most Recent when it is available
Some app versions expose a Feed Filter Bar or a Shortcuts menu containing Most Recent. Tap it to switch from the ranked News Feed to newest-first ordering. The control is not shown to every account, and its location can change after an app update.
Pin Feeds for easier access
If you use chronological posts regularly, open Facebook’s shortcut customization controls and pin Feeds to the shortcut bar. A pinned shortcut reduces the number of taps needed after Home opens. Facebook can still change which shortcuts it displays, so check the customization screen if the tab disappears.

A chronological view can feel incomplete if it is narrowed to Favorites, Pages or Groups. Read the filter name at the top and switch to the combined feed when you want activity from all eligible connected sources. If you only want personal updates, Friends is intentionally narrower.
Switch Facebook to chronological posts on a computer
Find Feeds in desktop navigation
- Open Facebook in a browser and sign in.
- Choose Feeds in the left-side navigation or in the navigation area where Facebook has placed it.
- Select the combined feed or a source filter such as Friends, Favorites, Pages or Groups.
Desktop navigation is not identical for every account. If Feeds is not visible, open Menu, use Facebook’s navigation search, or inspect shortcut-customization options. The important distinction is the destination: Feeds (or Most Recent) is the recent-post view, while Home is the ranked discovery surface.
If the older Most Recent control is still shown
Choose Most Recent wherever Facebook places it, such as a Feed Filter Bar or Shortcuts menu. That label refers specifically to chronological ordering. You may need to reopen the control after refreshing the page because Facebook does not document Most Recent as a permanent replacement for the Home tab.
When the left navigation is collapsed
A narrow browser window can hide labels behind a menu or icon-only rail. Expand the navigation, open Menu, or use Facebook’s navigation search rather than assuming the feature is unavailable. Browser and account rollouts can place Feeds in different areas, but the destination name remains the useful search term.

Meta introduced the Feeds tab on July 21, 2022 as a way to reach recent posts from friends, Favorites, Pages and groups. Meta’s earlier Feed Filter Bar announcement, dated March 31, 2021, described Most Recent as a feed “sorted chronologically with the newest posts first.” These are related routes to recent content, but the labels and placement can differ by account, country, device and app version.
Home is designed as a discovery surface. Its machine-learning ranking uses thousands of signals to estimate what you may value, so an older post, a discussion with high engagement or a recommended account can appear above something published minutes ago. Feeds is the practical route when posting time matters more than predicted relevance.
Choose the right chronological filter
Combined Feeds
Use the combined view when you want recent activity from all the connected sources Facebook makes available: friends, selected Favorites, Pages and groups. It is a practical replacement for scrolling Home when recommendations are getting in the way, but it is not a complete archive of every Facebook post.
Friends
Friends narrows the chronological stream to posts from people on your friends list. It is useful when you want personal updates without Page or group activity. If a friend has not posted recently, the list may be short even though other connected sources are active.
Favorites
Favorites is for a deliberately small set of high-priority friends and Pages. Meta’s 2021 description allows up to 30 friends and Pages in this list. Because the filter is selective, it will not show every friend’s post. It is best for a quick check of the accounts you most care about rather than a complete social catch-up.
Pages
Pages shows posts from Pages you follow or otherwise connect with. Select it when you are tracking organizations, publishers or businesses rather than personal accounts. A Page filter will omit friend updates and group discussions by design.
Groups
Groups focuses on communities you have joined. A busy group can still produce many posts in a short time, so the newest-first order may move quickly. Use this view when you need the latest conversation in a community, not when you want a broad personal feed.

Most Recent
Most Recent is the explicit newest-first control where Facebook still exposes it. It may appear in the Feed Filter Bar or Shortcuts menu rather than as a permanent tab. If you cannot find the label, use Feeds; Facebook’s newer interface treats Feeds as the main route to recent posts.

- It covers connected sources. Feeds is intended for people and communities you already connect with, not the entire public Facebook catalog.
- It removes Suggested For You posts. Meta says Feeds has no Suggested For You items.
- It still contains ads. Chronological ordering does not make the feed ad-free.
- A filter changes the scope. Friends, Favorites, Pages and Groups each omit sources outside that category.
- It is not an account-history viewer. A recent Feeds view should not be described as every post ever published by every connected account.
Chronological ordering concerns the order of eligible posts. It does not guarantee that every post is displayed, that deleted or restricted content will appear, or that an ad will follow the same timing as an organic post. Privacy settings, audience choices and your connection to an account still determine whether a post is eligible.
Feeds also does not turn Facebook into a public-firehose view. Posts from people you do not follow, Pages you have not connected with and communities you have not joined are outside the normal connected-source scope. That narrower scope is why Feeds can feel calmer than Home even though both are on Facebook.
Why Facebook keeps showing older posts first
You are still on Home
Home is designed for discovery. Facebook ranks content with a machine-learning system that uses thousands of signals to estimate what you may value, so an older post can be placed above a newer one. Tap Feeds or Most Recent instead of continuing to refresh Home.
You opened the wrong filter
A Favorites, Pages or Groups view can look sparse compared with the combined feed because it deliberately limits eligible sources. Switch to the combined Feeds view if you need a broader recent stream.

Shortcut tabs vary by usage and Facebook rolls interface changes out over time. Check the Menu, navigation search, shortcut bar and shortcut-customization screen. On mobile, also check both the top and bottom edges of the screen because placement differs between Android and iOS.
The label changed after an update
Facebook may emphasize Feeds while hiding the older Most Recent wording. The absence of the exact phrase does not mean chronological viewing was removed; Feeds is the current destination to try first.

You are comparing different scopes
Home can contain recommendations and posts from many types of accounts, while a Friends or Favorites filter cannot. A newer item may exist in another connected category without appearing in the filter you selected. Confirm the selected category before concluding that Facebook skipped a post.
Troubleshooting when Feeds is missing
Mobile checklist
- Open Menu and look for Feeds.
- Scroll through the shortcut bar instead of checking only the first few icons.
- Open the shortcut-customization controls and search for Feeds or Most Recent.
- Check the Shortcuts menu for Most Recent or Favorites.
- Close and reopen the app after an interface update, then repeat the Menu search.
Desktop checklist
- Inspect the left navigation for Feeds.
- Open Menu and use navigation search if the left rail is condensed.
- Look for a Feed Filter Bar or Shortcuts entry named Most Recent.
- Use shortcut customization if Feeds is available but not pinned.
Account and rollout differences
Facebook does not present an identical interface to every person. Country, account, device, app version and staged rollouts can affect labels and placement. A missing tab therefore does not establish that your account has no chronological option; it means you should check each navigation route. Conversely, do not assume that a control will remain available after an update.
What not to expect from troubleshooting
There is no documented universal switch that forces every account’s Home tab to stay chronological. Reinstalling the app or repeatedly refreshing Home cannot create a setting Facebook has not exposed. The reliable workaround is to locate Feeds, select the appropriate filter and pin that destination when the controls allow it.
Can chronological order become Facebook’s permanent default?
Facebook’s documented design keeps Home as the opening, ranked tab and provides Feeds or Most Recent as a separate access point. You can pin Feeds to make it easier to reach, but there is no documented universal setting that permanently turns Home into a newest-first feed for every account. If Facebook opens Home after you relaunch the app, use your pinned Feeds shortcut or the Menu path.
This distinction also explains why changing the view once may not persist as a global preference. A session can remain on a selected Feeds filter, while the next launch still starts at Home. Treat Feeds as a saved route rather than a permanent replacement for the opening screen.

- Start at Feeds. Open the pinned shortcut or Menu rather than relying on Home.
- Select a scope. Use Friends for personal updates, Favorites for a short priority list, Pages or Groups for focused monitoring, or the combined view for all connected sources.
- Use Most Recent when visible. This confirms that the newest-first control, rather than a ranked view, is active.

How do I switch Facebook to most recent posts?
