You generally cannot switch Apple Intelligence to Qwen through an iPhone system setting. Apple documents a control for turning Apple Intelligence on or off and separate Siri settings for language, voice, activation, and response behavior. It does not document a provider selector that lets you choose Qwen. If Qwen is available to you, the practical fallback is to use its separate app or service while Apple Intelligence remains enabled or disabled.
What “switching” means on an iPhone
There are three different things people often mean when they ask to switch from Apple Intelligence to Qwen:
- Turning Apple Intelligence on or off: This is a documented iPhone setting on supported devices.
- Changing Siri’s behavior: Siri settings control how you activate Siri and how it speaks or responds. They do not identify which large language model supplies the answer.
- Replacing Apple’s system intelligence with Qwen: No generally available iPhone workflow for doing this is documented. In particular, there is no published Apple setting that names Qwen as a system-wide provider.
Public reporting has described a China-focused plan to integrate Qwen with Apple Intelligence across Apple platforms. That reporting does not establish a public iPhone migration procedure, a rollout date, or a user-facing model picker. Treat an announcement or report about intended integration as different from a feature you can activate today.
For now, think of Apple Intelligence and Qwen as separate paths. Apple Intelligence is controlled by iOS, subject to Apple’s hardware, software, language, and regional rules. Qwen is available separately only where its own service or app is offered. Using Qwen separately is not the same as making Qwen Siri’s underlying provider.

Check eligibility before changing any setting
If Apple Intelligence is missing, switching Siri language or installing a second AI app will not fix an eligibility problem. Check these conditions first. Apple says availability varies by model, language, and region, so the same iPhone can show different options after a software update or a change in location or account region.
1. Confirm the iPhone and iOS version
Use an iPhone model supported by Apple Intelligence and install the latest iOS version offered for that device. Apple’s exact requirements and supported features can change by release. If the phone is not eligible, the Apple Intelligence control will not appear, or individual features may remain unavailable even after an update.
To check the software version, open Settings > General > Software Update. Install an available update, then return to the Apple Intelligence settings. An update alone cannot overcome a region or language restriction.
2. Check device language, location, and Apple Account region
Apple’s availability documentation ties Apple Intelligence to supported languages and geographic availability. Review:
- The primary language configured on the iPhone.
- The iPhone’s current location and regional settings.
- The country or region associated with your Apple Account.
These values are related but not interchangeable. Changing the iPhone’s language does not automatically change the Apple Account country or region, and changing an account region is not a documented way to turn Qwen into a system provider. Check Apple’s current availability table for the combination that applies to your device and account.

3. Apply the mainland-China rules separately
Apple states two restrictions that are easy to miss:
- Supported devices purchased in mainland China do not currently get Apple Intelligence.
- For a device purchased outside mainland China, Apple Intelligence will not currently work when the user is in mainland China and the Apple Account country or region is mainland China.
Those rules can explain why Apple Intelligence is absent even when the iPhone model and iOS release otherwise appear eligible. They also mean that changing Siri’s voice or language cannot bypass the restriction.

- Is the iPhone model on Apple’s supported-device list?
- Is the latest available iOS installed?
- Is the selected device language supported for the features you want?
- Are your current location and Apple Account country or region compatible with Apple Intelligence?
- Was the iPhone purchased in mainland China, or are you currently in mainland China with a mainland-China Apple Account region?
How to turn Apple Intelligence on or off
This is the only documented system-level change relevant to the question. It controls Apple Intelligence itself; it does not install Qwen or select another provider.
- Open Settings.
- Tap Apple Intelligence & Siri.
- Use the Apple Intelligence control to enable or disable it.
- Read any confirmation or setup prompt and follow the on-screen instructions.
Apple notes that the exact option shown depends on the iOS version and whether Apple Intelligence has already been configured. A newly eligible phone may show setup or download-related screens, while a previously configured phone may show a direct switch. If the Apple Intelligence & Siri page is missing or contains no Apple Intelligence control, return to the eligibility checks rather than looking for a hidden Qwen selector.
Turning Apple Intelligence off removes access to the Apple Intelligence features controlled by that setting until you turn it on again. It does not change the Siri language, delete your Apple Account, or affect the availability of a separate Qwen service.

Why Siri settings do not switch the underlying model
Inside Settings > Apple Intelligence & Siri, iOS provides controls for Siri activation, language, voice, and response behavior. These settings change the interface you use and the way Siri communicates. They are not a list of AI providers.

Changing the voice changes the voice output, not the model. Adjusting response behavior changes how Siri answers, not where a request is processed. Apple’s documented Siri controls do not include a field for entering a Qwen account, endpoint, or model name.
If a guide tells you to change Siri’s language or voice to “activate” Qwen, it is confusing presentation settings with provider selection.
Can Qwen become Siri on your iPhone?
There is no generally available, documented procedure that makes Qwen the system Siri provider on iPhone. The available reporting about Qwen integration is China-focused and describes an intended or reported partnership direction, but it does not publish a user-facing iPhone switch, supported-device matrix, public rollout date, or instructions for migrating an existing Apple Intelligence installation.
That distinction matters because an integration announcement can refer to a future release, a regional build, a server-side arrangement, or a feature available only to particular users. Until Apple publishes an iPhone setting or setup flow, you should not assume that an eligible phone can be changed by editing a plist, changing Siri’s language, or moving an Apple Account between regions.

The practical way to use Qwen today
If Qwen is offered in your country or region, use it as a separate app or service. The exact sign-in, language, and data-handling steps belong to that service and can differ by release. A general workflow is:
- Check whether the official Qwen app or web service is available in your region.
- Install or open the service through its official distribution channel.
- Complete its own account or sign-in requirements.
- Use Qwen inside that service for conversations you want handled by Qwen.
- Return to the iPhone’s Apple Intelligence settings only when you want to enable or disable Apple’s system features.
This arrangement lets you keep Apple Intelligence enabled for Apple-supported system features while opening Qwen for tasks you intentionally send to it. Alternatively, you can turn Apple Intelligence off and use Qwen separately; doing so still does not make Qwen part of Siri or other iOS system surfaces.
Before sending sensitive information to any separate AI service, read that service’s current privacy and data-routing disclosures. A prompt entered into a third-party app is governed by that service’s handling rules, which are distinct from the controls Apple documents for Apple Intelligence.
Apple Intelligence and Qwen: what is established
The following comparison separates documented iPhone behavior from information that has not been published as a general user workflow.

Troubleshooting: Apple Intelligence is missing or Qwen is not available
If Apple Intelligence is missing from Settings
- Open Settings > General > Software Update and install the latest available iOS release for the iPhone.
- Check the iPhone model against Apple’s supported-device requirements.
- Check the device language and whether the desired language is supported.
- Check your current location and Apple Account country or region.
- Apply the mainland-China purchase, location, and account-region restrictions.
- Reopen Settings > Apple Intelligence & Siri after those checks.
If the control still does not appear, the most likely explanation is an eligibility or regional limitation, not that Qwen has taken over the system. Apple’s documentation is the authority for the supported combinations, and the exact settings labels can change between iOS releases.

If Qwen is unavailable in your App Store or region
Do not treat a missing Qwen app as evidence that Apple Intelligence can be switched to Qwen internally. Availability of a separate service is controlled by that service and the distribution rules for your region. If the official Qwen service is not offered to you, there is no documented Apple setting that substitutes it for Siri.
If a guide promises a hidden provider switch
Look for an explicit Apple setting, supported iOS version, supported model list, and regional rollout information. Instructions that mention only changing Siri’s voice, changing the keyboard language, or editing the Apple Account region do not demonstrate a provider migration. Avoid unofficial configuration profiles or system modifications that claim to unlock an undocumented model; they can create account, security, or update problems without providing a supported result.
Which setup should you choose?
You want Apple’s built-in features
Meet Apple’s hardware, software, language, and region requirements, then enable Apple Intelligence from Settings > Apple Intelligence & Siri. Leave Siri settings at your preferred language, voice, and response behavior.

You want Qwen for selected conversations
Keep Apple Intelligence in whichever state suits your iPhone and use the official Qwen app or service separately, if it is available in your region. Treat each app as its own AI environment and check the relevant privacy disclosures before sharing confidential material.
You are using an iPhone affected by mainland-China restrictions
Do not expect Apple Intelligence to appear merely because the phone has compatible hardware. Apple’s stated purchase, location, and Apple Account rules can block it. A separate Qwen service may still be available under its own regional rules, but that would not turn Qwen into Siri or enable Apple Intelligence.
You are waiting for a future integrated release
Watch for an Apple-published iOS release note, support page, or on-device setup flow that names Qwen and explains eligibility. Until such documentation exists, the reliable choices are the Apple Intelligence on/off control and a separate Qwen service.
Bottom line for iPhone users
There is currently no documented one-tap switch between Apple Intelligence and Qwen on iPhone. You can enable or disable Apple Intelligence in Settings > Apple Intelligence & Siri, and you can change Siri’s language, voice, activation, and response behavior there. None of those controls selects Qwen. Use Qwen separately where its official service is available, and check Apple’s model, iOS, language, location, and Apple Account requirements before troubleshooting a missing Apple Intelligence option.
