First identify your track and platform: Java snapshots are changed in Minecraft Launcher, Android Beta is managed from the Minecraft listing in Google Play and replaces the ordinary Android client, and Minecraft Preview on other Bedrock platforms is normally a separate app. Follow the section that matches your setup rather than applying Android, Java, and console instructions interchangeably.
Back up important worlds before changing tracks. Minecraft warns that snapshots can corrupt worlds, and its Android guidance recommends a backup before installing Beta. A Bedrock seed can recreate terrain, but it cannot restore your inventory, builds, achievements, or other progress.

The word “preview” covers several different distribution systems. The rollback is straightforward once you know whether the test build is selected by the Launcher, replaces the normal mobile app, or is installed as a separate Bedrock app.

Labels and menu wording can change between Launcher, store, and console updates. The important distinction is the track itself: Java snapshots are selected as versions, Android Beta is a Google Play enrollment that replaces the client, and Preview on other Bedrock devices is launched separately.

Back up worlds before switching
Java snapshots can damage a world
Minecraft’s Java and Bedrock guidance recommends backing up Java worlds before using snapshots because these work-in-progress builds can corrupt a world. Make the backup before you open the world in the snapshot, not after a problem appears. Keep the copy separate from the live world so that a damaged save does not overwrite your only usable version.
Android Beta replaces the normal client
The official mobile instructions specifically recommend a world backup before installing Android Beta. Because Beta replaces the ordinary Minecraft client on Android, leaving the program is not the same as merely changing a Launcher profile. Treat the backup as your recovery point while Google Play moves the account back to the stable track.
A Bedrock backup is not the same as a seed
Minecraft Help explains that a previous manual or automatic backup can restore a Bedrock world to the point at which that backup was saved. Recreating a world from its seed only reproduces a familiar map. It does not restore your buildings, items, player location, settings, or other progress. If a world is missing after you return to stable, look for a real backup rather than relying on the seed.
Consider multiplayer and Realms before changing versions
Players joining one another must use the same Beta or Preview version. A stable client cannot join friends who are still on an incompatible test build, and the reverse is also true. Regular Realms are not playable on Preview or Beta, although eligible subscribers can create Preview or Beta Realms. For a normal Realm or a stable multiplayer session, return every participating device to the stable release.

Switch from a Java snapshot to the latest release
Java Edition snapshots are controlled by the Minecraft Launcher. You do not leave a store enrollment; you select a release version for the installation you intend to play.
- Open Minecraft Launcher on your Windows, macOS, or Linux computer.
- Open the Installations tab. This is where snapshot and release installations are listed.
- Find the installation you normally use. If it is configured for a snapshot, open its version selector or edit controls.
- Select the latest entry identified as a stable release, not an entry labeled snapshot or another development build. The exact labels can vary with Launcher revisions.
- Save the installation if the Launcher presents a save button, then start that release installation.
- At the title screen, check that the version shown is the release you selected before loading a world.
The Launcher guide describes snapshots as an option in Installations and allows Java players to choose release versions there. If several release entries appear, choose the one you intend to use for normal play rather than leaving the profile pointed at a snapshot.

If a snapshot world does not appear or will not open
Do not treat a missing or damaged snapshot world as evidence that the save was deleted. First confirm that the Launcher is using the same game directory and profile that contained the world. If the world was played in a development build, use the backup you made before opening it in the snapshot. Minecraft’s warning about snapshot corruption is the reason to restore a known-good copy instead of repeatedly testing the damaged save.
Returning to a snapshot later
Switching the installation back to a release does not permanently remove snapshot support. You can select a snapshot again from Installations when you deliberately want to test it, but make a fresh backup first and keep development-play worlds separate from worlds you depend on for stable play.

Leave Minecraft Beta on Android
Android Beta is managed through Google Play, not through an in-game menu. The Beta build replaces the regular Minecraft client, so the store enrollment must be changed before Google Play can provide the stable track.
- Confirm that your important Android worlds have a manual or automatic backup available. The official mobile guidance recommends this before Beta use.
- Open the Google Play listing for Minecraft using the Google account that joined the Beta.
- Open the listing’s Beta controls. Repeat the Beta-management steps shown for joining the program, then choose Leave.
- Close and reopen the listing and look for the ordinary Minecraft release offered by Google Play. Install or update the stable build when the store makes it available.
- Launch the ordinary Minecraft app and verify your worlds before joining a Realm or multiplayer session.
The official instructions do not establish a universal waiting period between choosing Leave and receiving the stable build. Do not assume that the rollback is immediate or that a particular number of minutes is guaranteed. If the listing still shows Beta, check that you used the same Google account that enrolled and allow the store to refresh its offer before troubleshooting the world itself.

Leaving Beta changes your enrollment; it does not promise an instant store transition. Keep the backup intact, revisit the Minecraft Google Play listing, and use the update or install control for the ordinary release when it appears. Avoid deleting the app as a first response: the documented exit path is the listing’s Beta control, and deleting an app can create an additional data-recovery problem if a local world was not backed up.
Checking a world after Android returns to stable
Open the world only after the ordinary client is installed. If it is absent or appears to have rolled back, use the available manual or automatic Bedrock backup. A seed can recreate the terrain layout but cannot recover the saved progress that existed in the Beta client.

Open stable Minecraft instead of Preview on consoles and other Bedrock platforms
Minecraft Preview is described as a separate app on supported Bedrock platforms. The practical switch is therefore to stop launching Preview and open the regular Minecraft app. The current console guide covers Preview installation on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S; platform menus may use different names for the two entries.

- Open your platform’s game library or home screen and locate the regular Minecraft app, not the one labeled Preview.
- Launch the regular app and check its title-screen version or update status before loading a world.
- Use the stable app when joining friends on the stable release or connecting to a regular Realm.
The console documentation explains how to install Preview but does not provide one universal procedure for removing or leaving it on every platform. Do not delete Preview on the assumption that deletion is required or that it will affect local worlds in a predictable way. If you want to remove the separate app, use only a current, platform-specific instruction that explains what happens to local data.
If the regular app is not visible
Check the platform’s library, installed-games list, or store for the ordinary Minecraft entry. Preview and stable may have distinct icons or names. If the regular app was never installed on that device, the console guide’s Preview installation instructions do not establish a universal stable-install procedure; use the platform’s own current Minecraft listing rather than changing account or world data blindly.
Preview multiplayer and Realms
Everyone in a Preview or Beta multiplayer session must use the same test version. Regular Realms are not playable from Preview or Beta. Once the regular app is open, make sure friends are also on stable before attempting to join, and use a regular Realm only from the stable client.

iOS: Preview is managed through TestFlight
Minecraft Preview on iOS is distributed through Apple’s TestFlight system. The official mobile page identifies TestFlight as the management point, but the exact current controls for leaving or removing a Preview build can change as TestFlight and the app listing are updated.
- Open TestFlight on the iPhone or iPad that enrolled in Minecraft Preview.
- Open the Minecraft Preview entry and use the current TestFlight control for stopping participation, ending testing, or removing the test build, as presented in that version of TestFlight.
- Check the App Store for the ordinary Minecraft app and launch that stable app when it is installed and available.
- Verify a world backup before attempting recovery if a local world is not shown after the change.
There is no established in-game opt-out path that applies to every iOS release. Follow the controls that TestFlight currently displays instead of relying on an older menu description. Do not infer that deleting the TestFlight app alone is a safe world-recovery method.
Troubleshooting after the switch
The game still says Beta or Preview
- Java: Return to Installations and verify that the selected profile points to a release entry rather than a snapshot.
- Android: Reopen the Minecraft Google Play listing and confirm that the account joined the Beta and then selected Leave. The store may not present the stable build immediately.
- Console or other Bedrock platform: Check which app icon you launched. Preview is separate where the platform supports separate apps.
- iOS: Review the Minecraft entry in TestFlight; TestFlight controls, not an in-game switch, govern the test build.
A friend or Realm cannot be reached
Compare the exact track on every device. Preview and Beta players need matching test versions for multiplayer, while a regular Realm expects the stable client. Move all players to the same stable release before treating the connection as a network problem.
A world is missing, rolled back, or will not load
- Stop experimenting with the affected copy so that a damaged save is not overwritten.
- Look for the manual or automatic backup made before the test build was installed or opened.
- Restore that backup through the game’s available Bedrock recovery controls.
- If no backup exists, understand that recreating the world from its seed restores terrain generation only, not prior progress.
You are considering reinstalling
Reinstalling is not a documented prerequisite for changing a Java installation, leaving Android Beta, or opening the regular Preview counterpart. Start with the track-specific control described above. Reinstall only when a current platform support instruction calls for it and you have confirmed that world data is backed up.
What the Preview warning means
Preview builds are intentionally unfinished. In Minecraft Feedback and Mojang Studios release notes for Beta & Preview build 26.40.26, published June 17, 2026, the official warning says: “These work-in-progress versions can be unstable and may not be representative of final version quality.” That warning explains why backups, matching versions, and separate test worlds matter when returning to stable play.

- Identify the edition and platform before changing anything.
- Back up worlds; do not mistake a seed for a save backup.
- For Java, use Launcher > Installations and select a release entry.
- For Android, use the Minecraft Google Play listing and choose Leave in the Beta controls.
- For console and other supported Bedrock platforms, launch regular Minecraft rather than Preview.
- For iOS, manage Preview through the current TestFlight controls.
- Use stable clients for friends and regular Realms, and use matching versions for any test multiplayer session.
- Do not delete an app or promise an immediate store rollback when the official procedure does not establish that outcome.
