Survive a contested extraction in ARC Raiders by treating the point as a timed exposure event, not a destination. Reach it before public options disappear, scout from cover, preserve stamina and healing, and keep a second route ready. When you activate a regular lift, airshaft, subway or cargo elevator, the alarm can draw both ARC machines and human Raiders, so one player should operate while the others watch approach lanes. If the fight becomes unwinnable, leave early. A keyed Raider Hatch is quieter and often less exposed, while a downed Raider can still crawl to and activate extraction if a finisher does not reach them first.
The sequence below covers preparation, activation, squad jobs, hatch decisions, downed escapes and the documented overtime interaction. Extraction timing, hatch behavior and enemy responses can change with patches, so treat mechanics noted as patch-sensitive as such.
Why a regular extraction point becomes dangerous
Regular extraction points have no direct item cost, but that convenience is deliberate bait. In the developer blog Refining Risk and Reward, Embark explains that public points draw substantial attention from ARC and other players. The number of available extractions also steadily diminishes as a session continues. A lift that was safe earlier can therefore become the only obvious exit for several squads late in a run.

The terminal or elevator is not a silent interaction. Epic Games Store’s guide, ARC Raiders guide: 12 tips to help you survive the Rust Belt, says regular points are patrolled by ARC drones and robots and that interacting with the controls emits a loud blaring sound. That signal can reveal your position to human Raiders as well as machines. The countdown is consequently an exposure window: you must survive the approach, the activation noise and the time before the escape vehicle or shaft is usable.

Arrival order still matters. Epic’s guide notes that the first player at an extraction point can plan an ambush for opponents who arrive later. Use that advantage to choose cover and sightlines before touching the controls; do not throw it away by standing at the obvious console with the whole squad visible.
Prepare before you touch the terminal
Rotate before the public options become scarce
Do not wait for the map to leave you with one public point. Public lifts close one by one as the session progresses, so begin moving while another option remains available. Early movement gives you time to stop short of the point, listen and change direction without spending your final stamina on a panic sprint.
Use the remaining extraction count as a timing cue rather than a reason to rush blindly. If your backpack contains valuable equipment, the cost of arriving late is not just a longer walk: a closed point can force you toward a crowded location where several teams have the same deadline.
Stop short and read the approach
Approach through cover and pause before the terminal. Listen for footsteps, gunfire, drones and robot movement. Look for lanes from which another Raider could reach the console and for positions that overlook the boarding area. The activation alarm will announce you, so the quiet part of the approach is your best chance to identify a camper before committing.
Do not assume that an empty console is an uncontested console. A player may be holding an angle just outside your view, waiting for the interaction sound. Check the likely firing positions, then select cover that lets you break line of sight without crossing the open area around the controls.
Choose a fallback before activation
Mark a second extraction option or a route that takes you away from the point and back into cover. The fallback is not an admission that the first plan failed; it is what prevents a bad activation from becoming a fatal stand. If a camper has a clean angle, an ARC surge arrives, or your group loses its healing capacity, leaving before the countdown expires can preserve the run.
Make the route specific: decide which side of the point you will use, where the first hard cover is, and who will move first. A vague instruction such as “run to another lift” is too slow once the alarm starts.

Preserve stamina and one recovery action
Sprinting drains stamina, and a collapsed Raider has only a limited crawl window. The getting-started guide describes roughly a minute of crawling after a knockdown. Keep enough stamina for the final approach or a break from the console, and retain at least one heal or shield action for the countdown. Entering the point exhausted or with no recovery option turns a single hit into an elimination.
Review the backpack before committing. If low-value scrap is filling it, drop that material rather than letting a full load slow the decision to retreat. Epic’s guide emphasizes that carried equipment is lost on elimination, while safe pockets and consumables can preserve the most important part of a run.
Execute a contested extraction step by step
1. Establish positions before activation
Reach the selected cover and keep the squad off the console until everyone knows their lane. The operator should have the shortest protected path to the controls. The other players should occupy positions that cover the most likely approach rather than clustering beside the operator.
If you are solo, place yourself where you can see the approach and the terminal without exposing your entire body to both. A position that lets you move behind cover after starting the interaction is more valuable than a closer but open spot.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2. Assign simple squad jobs
Use three jobs when numbers allow:
- Operator: activates the terminal or elevator and moves to the boarding position without wandering into a second angle.
- Primary watch: watches the approach most likely to carry a late Raider and calls movement before firing.
- Opposite watch or retreat lead: covers the other lane, tracks ARC movement and is ready to start the fallback rotation.
These jobs apply the first-arrival advantage described by Epic’s guide. They also prevent the common failure in which every player looks at the console and nobody sees the opponent arriving.
3. Activate from cover, then move off the obvious line
Start the interaction only after the watches are ready. The alarm is an expected tactical event, not a surprise. Once the controls respond, move to the preselected cover or boarding position rather than remaining on the terminal. Keep the operator’s path clear so a teammate does not block the only exit.
Call out the direction of every threat and distinguish a human approach from ARC pressure when possible. A machine wave can force movement even when no Raider is present; a human team may wait for the machines to occupy you before pushing.

4. Hold the countdown without overfighting
Fight when an opponent blocks the escape or exposes an unavoidable angle. Do not trade health and ammunition merely to protect a few seconds of progress. Gunfire can compound the ARC response, and a squad that wins a duel in the open may still be too damaged to board.
Break line of sight whenever the angle allows it. Rotate toward the fallback if the opposing team controls the console side, and make them decide whether to chase through cover or give up the point. If you must shoot, use the position that protects your route to the boarding area rather than the position with the widest but most exposed view.
5. Make the leave-or-hold decision early
Set a decision point before the final seconds: for example, leave when a camper has an uninterrupted view of the boarding path, when ARC units occupy both exits, or when the squad has no remaining heal or shield action. This avoids a last-second argument in which everyone stays because the interaction has already started.
Abandoning the point gives up the current timing and may add distance, but it avoids an unwinnable fight. Follow the marked route immediately; do not linger to recover dropped scrap or watch whether the camper follows.
6. Board with the whole team moving through the same protected plan
As the extraction becomes available, the retreat lead should call the boarding order and keep the watched lane covered. Move decisively instead of pausing at the edge of the platform or shaft. A player who stops to loot or reload in the open can hold up everyone else and create the exact exposure the cover plan was designed to prevent.
Regular points, Raider Hatches and fallback rotation
The practical choices differ in cost and exposure. Use this table to decide before you reach the point, not while the alarm is sounding.
| Option | Cost or constraint | Exposure profile | When it fits |
|---|---|---|---|
| Regular lift, airshaft, subway or cargo elevator | No direct item cost | Loud activation; patrolled by ARC; signal can attract Raiders | Early arrival with usable cover and a squad member available to watch approaches |
| Raider Hatch | Requires a Hatch Key; opening is brief; one entrant at a time according to the ARC Raiders Wiki | Usually quieter and placed in areas with less foot traffic, but keys are scarce | A high-value run or a public point watched by players justifies spending the key |
| Crawl-to-extract while downed | No extra item cost; only a short survival window | Extremely vulnerable to a human finisher | A last-chance escape after a knockdown when the terminal or hatch is reachable |
| Leave and rotate to another point | Gives up current timing and may cost distance | Avoids an unwinnable fight; the next point may close | A camper, ARC surge or depleted resources make the current point untenable |
When a Raider Hatch is the better risk
A Raider Hatch exchanges an item resource for lower exposure. The developer blog describes hatches as relatively quiet and quick, with locations that can have less foot traffic. The hatch still has constraints: you need a Hatch Key, the opening is brief, and the Wiki records one entrant at a time. Decide who will use it before opening so the team does not lose the window to hesitation.

Spend a key when the public point is being watched, when the backpack contains enough value to justify preserving the run, or when the squad cannot hold the regular countdown. Keep the key for another run when the public route is genuinely covered and the current loot does not justify the resource.
Embark reported that high-level players used hatches 40% of the time in its TT2 data. That is historical test data from the developer’s blog, not a current live-service rate or a guarantee that a hatch is safer in every location. It demonstrates that experienced players considered reduced exposure worth the key under those test conditions, not that every run should use one.
If a player is downed at the point
Crawl immediately toward an interaction
Being downed is not automatically elimination. Epic’s guide and the ARC Raiders Wiki document that a collapsed player can still interact with extraction systems, and the getting-started guide says a downed Raider can crawl for about a minute and activate extraction or use a hatch. The downed player should therefore crawl toward the terminal, elevator or hatch at once instead of waiting for a revive in the open.
Use the shortest route that stays behind cover. Crawling into the center of the platform may expose you to every angle, while a small detour around hard cover can keep the interaction possible without giving a finisher a clear line.
Screen the crawl; do not revive blindly
A teammate should screen the path and watch for the human who caused the knockdown. Epic’s guide warns that a Raider can deliver a finishing blow even when ARC stops attacking a collapsed player. A reckless revive beside the terminal can therefore remove the only viable escape and create two easy eliminations.
If the crawl path is blocked, use the fallback plan. Abandoning the point is preferable to spending the final seconds on a revive attempt in an exposed lane, especially when another player has a direct angle on the downed Raider.
Choose hatch or regular interaction by distance
A downed player should use whichever interaction is physically reachable under the crawl timer. Do not crawl across open ground toward a theoretically quieter hatch when the regular terminal is a few body lengths away and already protected. Conversely, if a watched public console is blocked but a hatch lies behind cover, the hatch can be the only realistic last chance if a key is available.

Using the documented overtime interaction
The ARC Raiders Wiki reports that an extraction point will not deactivate if its terminal was interacted with immediately before shutdown, allowing an escape in “overtime.” Treat this as a documented but patch-sensitive mechanic. It is not a reason to wait until the displayed shutdown; your normal plan should activate with time to spare.
If you are already at the terminal as the window closes, complete the interaction rather than stepping away because the timer changed. Keep the squad in cover and continue watching for Raiders, since the mechanic extends the extraction opportunity but does not make the area safe or remove the activation alarm.
Responses to common contested situations
A camper has the console covered
Do not challenge the obvious angle from the obvious approach. Hold outside the sightline, use cover to identify the camper’s position, and wait for them to move or reveal themselves. If the run’s value warrants a Hatch Key, rotate to the hatch instead. If neither option is viable, leave on the fallback route while you still have stamina.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →An ARC wave arrives during the countdown
Separate the machine problem from the human one. Move behind cover that breaks the ARC line while the watch player checks for a Raider push. Avoid unnecessary gunfire that can intensify attention, and preserve a route away from both the machines and the terminal. If the machines occupy the boarding path, the extraction is no longer the priority; rotate and try another point.
Another squad arrives after you activate
Keep the operator protected and let the watchers call the approach. Fire only when the late squad must cross your escape lane or exposes an unavoidable angle. If they can hold the boarding area from cover, disengage before the final seconds and use the fallback rather than trying to win a low-value open fight.
The squad is split on opposite sides
Do not activate until everyone can reach the protected boarding route. A split squad forces one player to cross the alarmed open area alone and removes the benefit of assigned watches. Regroup at cover, confirm the fallback and then start the interaction together.
Solo, duo and full-squad adjustments
Solo
Your priority is information and an exit line. Stop short of the point, identify one protected interaction position and one retreat lane, then activate only when you can move between them without crossing open ground. A solo player cannot maintain two watches, so a public point with several unchecked approaches is a strong reason to rotate or spend a Hatch Key.

Have one operator and one dedicated watch. The watch should stay far enough from the terminal to see the approach and close enough to cover the operator’s retreat. Swap roles only after the first interaction attempt is complete; changing positions during the alarm creates a gap.
Three or more players
Use an operator, a primary approach watch and an opposite-lane or retreat lead. Keep the retreat lead mobile rather than stacking all players on the console. A mobile third player can call an ARC surge, identify a flank and start the fallback without pulling the operator off the controls.
Mistakes that turn a survivable extraction into an elimination
- Arriving at the last public point: diminishing options force you into the busiest route and remove time to scout.
- Activating while everyone is exposed: the alarm then announces a squad with no prepared cover.
- Standing on the terminal: remaining at the obvious interaction spot gives a camper a predictable target.
- Spending all stamina on the approach: there is no reserve to break line of sight or crawl to safety after a knockdown.
- Taking a duel for low-value loot: damage and gunfire can leave the squad unable to board even after winning the exchange.
- Reviving a downed teammate in the open: a human Raider can finish the collapsed player while the rescuer is exposed.
- Ignoring the hatch’s constraints: a key does not remove the brief opening or the one-at-a-time order, so hesitation can strand the squad.
- Relying on overtime: the Wiki’s terminal interaction rule may change with a patch and should be treated as an emergency extension, not the plan.
A compact decision sequence
- Rotate before public extraction choices become scarce.
- Stop short, listen and inspect the approaches from cover.
- Choose the terminal, a fallback route and, if available, a hatch alternative.
- Keep stamina and one healing or shielding action for the exposure window.
- Assign the operator and watches before activating.
- Trigger the point, leave the console line and hold protected sightlines.
- Fight only when the opponent blocks the escape; otherwise break contact.
- If knocked, crawl immediately to the nearest reachable interaction while a teammate screens the path.
- Leave early when the point becomes unwinnable, and rotate rather than gambling the final seconds.
This approach turns extraction from a single high-risk interaction into a sequence of decisions: arrive with time, create information, expose only the operator briefly, and preserve a way out when the alarm brings the fight to you.
