Yes. Asobi: Remote Play can stream games from your PS5 to a Steam Deck running SteamOS. Install Asobi from Steam, enable Remote Play on the console, pair the Deck with the PS5’s eight-digit PIN, then connect a controller. The Deck is receiving a video stream; the PS5 still runs the game, so this does not install or run PS5 software natively on Steam Deck.
What you need
- A PS5 with Remote Play enabled.
- A Steam Deck running SteamOS with Asobi: Remote Play installed from Steam. The Steam listing describes Asobi as an independent PS4/PS5 Remote Play client and supports SteamOS/Linux.
- A compatible controller. DualSense and DualShock 4 are supported, as are Xbox and other compatible controllers.
- A network connection. Asobi recommends Ethernet for the PS5 and 5 GHz Wi-Fi for the Steam Deck.
Remote Play can access games installed on, or otherwise available through, your PS5. It does not make the Steam Deck run those games locally. PlayStation Plus cloud streaming is a separate option, discussed below.
Set up Asobi Remote Play
1. Install Asobi on the Steam Deck
- Open Steam on the Deck.
- Search for Asobi: Remote Play and install it.
- Launch Asobi from your Steam library.
The baseline Steam listing describes 1080p, 30-fps SDR Remote Play streaming, automatic bitrate adjustment, internet Remote Play and SteamOS support. Asobi’s premium feature list advertises up to 1080p, 60-fps HDR streaming, manual bitrate control and low-latency modes; those capabilities depend on the relevant edition or upgrade and on your hardware and network.
2. Enable Remote Play on the PS5
- On the PS5, open Settings → System → Remote Play.
- Turn on Enable Remote Play.
3. Generate the pairing PIN
- Remain in the PS5 settings and open Settings → System → Remote Play → Link Device.
- Note the displayed eight-digit PIN. It is used for the one-time registration of the Deck.
4. Register the console in Asobi
- In Asobi, choose Add Console.
- Select the discovered PS5.
- Enter the eight-digit PIN from the PS5.
- Wait for registration to finish. The console should then appear as a saved device in Asobi.
5. Pair a controller
Pair a controller with the Steam Deck over Bluetooth before connecting. A DualSense is the most complete match for Asobi because its advertised premium support includes haptics, gyro and adaptive triggers. A DualShock 4, Xbox controller or another compatible gamepad can also be used, although PlayStation-specific features may not be available on every controller.

6. Connect
- Select the saved PS5 in Asobi.
- Choose Connect.
- If the PS5 is configured for rest mode wake-up, Asobi can wake it after setup. Otherwise, turn on the console before connecting.
Network settings for a stable stream
For the most consistent connection, run a Cat6 (or equivalent) Ethernet cable from the PS5 to the router and connect the Steam Deck to the 5 GHz Wi-Fi band. This arrangement keeps the console’s upload path wired while avoiding the congestion common on 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi.
If the picture stutters, audio cuts out or controls feel delayed, first close downloads and other bandwidth-heavy applications on the network. Then lower Asobi’s bitrate. Automatic bitrate adjustment is listed as a baseline feature; premium controls allow manual tuning and low-latency modes. A lower bitrate can reduce interruptions at the cost of image detail.

Internet Remote Play works beyond your home network, but performance depends on the upload quality at the PS5’s location, the Deck’s connection and the route between them. No independent latency benchmark or Steam Deck-specific frame-rate study establishes a guaranteed delay, so treat advertised resolution and frame-rate ceilings as capability targets rather than promises for every network.

HDR requires an HDR-capable client and display. The Steam Deck model, operating mode and connected display therefore matter when evaluating the premium HDR claim. Remote Play and PlayStation Plus cloud streaming are different paths: Remote Play uses your own PS5, while cloud streaming runs supported titles from Sony’s service.

Asobi versus chiaki-ng
Both applications provide a way to use a Steam Deck as a PS5 Remote Play client. The practical choice depends on how much setup you want to do and which controls you need.

Asobi states that it is not affiliated with or endorsed by Sony Interactive Entertainment. Neither client changes Sony’s game licensing rules; you still need access to the game on your PS5 or, for cloud streaming, an eligible PlayStation Plus Premium subscription and a supported title.

Troubleshooting checklist
Asobi cannot find the PS5
- Confirm both devices are online and that Remote Play is enabled on the PS5.
- Use Settings → System → Remote Play → Link Device to generate a fresh PIN, then try Add Console again.
- For an internet connection, verify that the PS5’s network is active and that no router or firewall rule is blocking Remote Play.
The PIN is rejected
- Enter all eight digits exactly as shown on the PS5.
- Generate a new PIN and repeat registration if the previous code expired or was mistyped.
Video is choppy or controls lag
- Connect the PS5 to the router by Ethernet.
- Move the Deck to 5 GHz Wi-Fi and reduce distance or obstructions from the access point.
- Stop downloads, streaming video and other bandwidth-heavy traffic.
- Lower Asobi’s bitrate; premium users can try manual bitrate and low-latency settings.
The controller works but PlayStation features do not
Use a DualSense over Bluetooth for the broadest advertised feature support. Haptics, gyro and adaptive triggers are premium Asobi features and may also depend on the game and connection mode.

What this setup can and cannot do
- It can: put your PS5 library on the Steam Deck screen, use internet or local Remote Play, wake a suitably configured PS5 from rest mode and provide up to the limits advertised by your Asobi tier.
- It cannot: run PS5 games natively on the Deck, guarantee 60 fps or HDR on every network, or provide cloud access to every PlayStation title.
For the simplest SteamOS installation, Asobi’s direct Steam setup is the shorter path. chiaki-ng remains an alternative for readers willing to configure a Desktop Mode package and who specifically want its documented H265 HDR workflow. In either case, wired PS5 networking, 5 GHz Deck Wi-Fi and a properly paired controller have the greatest practical effect on playability.
