To stream educational videos around the clock on YouTube, create an encoder-based livestream in YouTube Studio and send it a continuous playlist from a computer, dedicated encoder, or cloud service. A local setup gives you direct control but depends on your computer, power, and internet connection staying available. A cloud service can keep prerecorded videos running without a computer at home. Before you start, verify the channel, test the feed, plan for recording and recovery, and confirm you have the rights to every audiovisual element.
What you need for a 24/7 educational livestream
- A YouTube channel verified for livestreaming and without a live-streaming restriction in the previous 90 days. If live streaming is being enabled for the first time, YouTube says activation may take up to 24 hours, so prepare ahead of launch.
- One of three ways to send video continuously: encoder software on a computer, a dedicated hardware encoder, or a cloud service for prerecorded video.
- A playlist or other planned sequence of educational videos, plus permission to use all video, audio, images, and other included material.
- A recording and recovery plan. Do not rely on YouTube’s automatic archive as the only copy of a continuous stream.
YouTube’s encoder setup and eligibility guidance is at Create a YouTube live stream with an encoder.
Choose how to keep the stream running
Software encoder on a computer
Choose this if you want direct control and can leave a computer, encoder, and reliable internet connection running and monitored. The computer is part of the broadcast chain: a shutdown, update, crash, power loss, or network failure can stop the feed. Plan for what happens after a restart and keep a local recording if you need an archive.

Dedicated hardware encoder
A hardware encoder can suit a permanent production installation. It is optional, not a YouTube requirement. Before buying one, confirm that it supports your video inputs and codecs and that its recovery, monitoring, and failover options meet your needs. The right device depends on your setup; the available YouTube guidance does not establish a particular model as best.

Cloud streaming service
A cloud service can send prerecorded video continuously without requiring a local encoding computer to stay on. Compare platform support, playlist and scheduling controls, recording and recovery provisions, service terms, and current price. YouTube’s encoder guide lists cloud tools described by their vendors as supporting 24/7 prerecorded streaming; that listing is not an independent comparison of reliability or pricing.
For a YouTube-only cloud option, StreamNeo is first to consider: it loops uploaded videos from the cloud at any quality up to 4K 60fps for one flat price per slot, and the first day is free.

Support for VISCA over IP encoder workflows enables flexible PTZ control, while the dashboard provides video preview and system status.
Set up the YouTube livestream
- Verify eligibility and allow time for activation. Confirm the channel is verified and has no live-streaming restriction in the previous 90 days. If this is its first livestream, enable the feature at least a day before you intend to go live; YouTube says activation can take up to 24 hours.
- Create or schedule the stream. In YouTube Studio, open Go Live and create a livestream. Set the title, description, schedule, and audience and visibility settings for the intended viewers. YouTube’s setup flow is documented in Create a YouTube live stream with an encoder.
- Copy the stream URL and key into the encoder. In the encoder’s streaming settings, enter the server URL and stream key shown in YouTube’s Live Control Room. The exact encoder labels vary. Treat the key like a password: anyone who has it may be able to send a feed to your stream. If it may have been exposed, reset it in Live Control Room and update the encoder. See Manage live stream settings.
- Load the educational video or playlist. Configure the encoder or service to play the intended prerecorded videos continuously. Check the transition between the last item and the first, and confirm the playlist does not stop after one pass. Avoid relying on a single file or manually restarting each video if the goal is continuous playback.
- Preview and test before launch. YouTube recommends setting up the encoder at least two hours before a scheduled event and starting it at least 15 minutes beforehand. Preview the incoming feed in Live Control Room; check video, audio, and the public watch page from the locations and devices you expect viewers to use. Verify that any local archive file is growing.
- Start the feed and monitor it. Watch the stream health and confirm playback continues through playlist transitions. If using a local encoder, keep the computer and network available and watch for interruptions; a secondary encoder or connection can reduce some single points of failure but cannot guarantee uninterrupted service.
For viewer playback, decide whether to leave DVR enabled. DVR lets viewers pause, rewind, and resume during the livestream, which can help students joining late; disable or retain it according to the intended teaching experience. YouTube documents this setting in Manage live stream settings.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsPlan bandwidth, recording, and recovery
Leave upload capacity in reserve
The total bitrate of the outgoing stream must fit within the upload capacity actually available to the encoder. YouTube recommends 20% upload-bandwidth headroom, and warns that other devices sharing the network can reduce available capacity. Test while the network is under realistic load rather than assuming the advertised connection speed is all available to the stream. See Streaming tips.

Keep a separate recording if the archive matters
YouTube can automatically archive livestreams shorter than 12 hours. Streams longer than 12 hours may not be captured at all; 12 hours is an archive behavior limit, not a requirement to end a stream. For a 24/7 feed, use a local recording or a service with a recording plan if you need a dependable copy. YouTube recommends keeping a local archive backup. Details are in Archive live streams.
Decide how you will recover from a failure
Identify what should happen if the encoder, computer, network, or YouTube connection drops. A local setup needs someone or a recovery mechanism to restart the encoder and check the feed. A cloud service may provide its own recovery behavior, but confirm the service’s terms and how it handles interruptions instead of assuming any method guarantees continuous playback.

Clear rights for every item in the playlist
Educational purpose alone does not make a video, song, photograph, animation, or other material safe to rebroadcast. Confirm that your permission covers livestreaming, the channel, and the territories where viewers may watch. YouTube scans livestreams for third-party matches. A match can replace the broadcast with a placeholder, interrupt it, or lead to termination. Even a licensed third-party feed may be interrupted unless the rights holder adds the channel to its Content ID allowlist. Check YouTube’s current guidance at Copyright issues with live streams.

Troubleshoot common interruptions
- The stream will not start: Check that live streaming is enabled for the channel, that any first-time activation period has passed, and that the encoder has the correct stream URL and key. If the key was reset, replace the old key in the encoder.
- The preview is blank or shows the wrong video: Check the selected encoder input or playlist, confirm the encoder is sending to the intended stream, and inspect the incoming feed in Live Control Room before making the event public.
- Playback buffers or stream health is poor: Check the encoder’s outgoing bitrate against available upload capacity, leave the recommended 20% headroom, and reduce competing traffic on a shared network. Recheck under actual operating conditions.
- The broadcast stops after a long run: Check the encoder, computer power and sleep settings, network connection, and playlist loop behavior. Do not assume the YouTube archive limit caused the stream to stop; it concerns recording, not a required stream duration.
- The stream is replaced or interrupted despite permission: Review YouTube’s copyright notice and contact the rights holder about Content ID allowlisting. A license alone may not prevent automated interruption.
- The livestream ended but no archive is available: YouTube may not capture streams exceeding 12 hours. Use a separate recording plan for continuous broadcasts where preserving the full program matters.
