Between uses, switch the power station off, disconnect its loads, and keep it in a dry, cool, ventilated place within the exact model’s temperature limits. Check the battery on the schedule in that model’s manual and recharge or cycle it to the stated target. There is no single correct storage percentage: the documented examples range from 40–60% to 100%, depending on model and storage duration.
Do not leave a station empty for an extended period, in a hot vehicle, in damp conditions, or with outputs running. The procedures below explain a safe routine, show how published instructions differ by model, and identify the exceptions that make a generic battery rule unsafe.
The safe between-use routine
Use this sequence whenever you put a portable power station away. The model’s manual takes precedence if it differs from any general step.
- Remove every load. Unplug appliances, USB devices, solar inputs, and expansion batteries unless the manual specifically tells you to leave a connection in place.
- Turn off outputs and main power. Some units have separate AC, DC, USB, or main-power controls. Confirm that the indicators and display have shut down; a sleeping display does not necessarily mean every output is off.
- Read the indicated state of charge. Record it if the station will sit for months. Use the storage target for the exact model rather than a target borrowed from another brand.
- Recharge or cycle as directed. Follow the manual’s charge percentage and refresh interval. A three-month reminder is common in the examples, but it is not universal.
- Clean and inspect. If dust or fingerprints are present, wipe the exterior with a soft, dry cloth. Look for cracked housings, damaged cables, loose ports, swelling, corrosion, or moisture before storage.
- Choose the storage site. Put the station on a stable, flat surface in a dry, ventilated, cool indoor location. Keep it away from direct sunlight, water, intense heat, and humid areas.
- Schedule the next check. Put the model’s check date on a calendar. Some guidance calls for weekly checks; other manuals specify a three- or six-month cycle.
Before an emergency or a trip, check the displayed charge, reconnect only the equipment you need, and confirm that the station operates according to the manufacturer’s instructions. The published guidance does not establish one universal calibration or load-test procedure for every model.

Why the storage percentage must come from your manual
Portable power stations do not share one manufacturer-defined storage state of charge. The official instructions cited for different products specify materially different targets:
- EcoFlow examples use 60% for long-term storage.
- Jackery’s general storage FAQ recommends around or above 80%.
- Anker SOLIX examples call for a full 100% charge at three-month intervals.
- BLUETTI’s B300K changes the target according to how long the unit will be stored.
These are model instructions, not a ranking of battery chemistries or a universal best practice. Do not average them into a compromise percentage. In particular, the EcoFlow E980 instruction to discharge to 0% and then recharge to 60% for long-term storage is a model-specific maintenance cycle; it must not be converted into general advice to leave other stations empty.
Published model instructions compared
The table separates product manuals from general support guidance. Temperature figures are the ranges stated in the cited documents; “recommended” and “allowed” are not interchangeable.
| Manufacturer and example | Storage charge and checks | Storage environment | Document-specific qualification |
|---|---|---|---|
| EcoFlow E980 | For long-term storage, discharge to 0%, then recharge to 60% every three months. The manual says warranty coverage does not apply if the unit is not charged or discharged for more than six months. | Ideally 20–30°C. Avoid water and intense heat; do not store above 45°C or below −10°C for extended periods. | Product manual; the 0% discharge step is not a general rule. |
| EcoFlow RIVER 3 Plus | Charge and discharge every three months, then store at 60%. Do not leave unused or uncharged for more than six months. | Allowed −10–45°C; approximately 0–30°C recommended. Keep the location dry, cool, and well ventilated. | Product manual; clean with a soft, dry cloth. |
| Jackery general storage FAQ | Do not store at 0%. Keep around or above 80%, power on, and check approximately every three months. | 10–40°C. Keep cool and dry, away from direct sun; avoid long-term vehicle storage. | General support guidance, not a specification for every Jackery model. |
| Anker SOLIX C1000/C1000X UK guide | Check weekly. If below 30%, fully charge. Charge to 100% once every three months. | Dry and cool; a numerical storage range is not stated in the cited UK guide. | UK guide; its weekly check is more frequent than a simple three-month reminder. |
| Anker SOLIX F2000 (PowerHouse 767) | Turn off outputs. Charge to 100% after use and every three months while stored. | 0–40°C. Avoid rain and humid environments; keep on a flat surface. | Product guidance; the 100% target applies to this example. |
| BLUETTI B300K | Before storage: 60–80% and cycle every six months. For storage longer than six months: 40–60% and cycle every three months. Cycle-charge before reuse. | Safe range −20–40°C. For storage longer than one month, aim for −20–25°C. | Product manual; target and interval depend on storage duration. |
Confirm the exact model, battery-pack configuration, and sales region before applying any row. A general brand FAQ may not cover a newer model, while a manual may impose a condition that does not appear in support-center advice.
How to choose a storage location
Keep it cool, but use the stated range
Heat is a recurring concern in the manufacturer guidance. The published limits differ: the E980 warns against extended storage above 45°C, the RIVER 3 Plus lists an allowed −10–45°C range, the F2000 lists 0–40°C, and the B300K lists a safe −20–40°C range with a narrower −20–25°C aim for storage longer than a month. Jackery’s general FAQ lists 10–40°C. Use the range for your exact unit, including whether it is an allowed operating range or a preferred storage range.

A parked vehicle can become much hotter than the surrounding air, and Jackery explicitly warns against long-term vehicle storage. A garage, shed, attic, or unheated room may also cross the manual’s limits during a heat wave or freeze. If you cannot keep the station inside the stated range, move it to a more stable indoor location rather than relying on insulation or a closed case.
Control moisture and ventilation
Store the station dry and away from rain, condensation, sinks, and humid locations. Keep ventilation openings clear and do not wrap the unit in an airtight covering while it is warm. The F2000 guidance specifically says to avoid rain and humid environments, while the EcoFlow examples call for a dry, cool, well-ventilated location.
Use a stable surface
Place the unit on a flat, stable surface where it cannot fall or be crushed. Keep cables from being pinched and leave access to the power button and display. Do not stack heavy objects on the station or block its vents.
How often to check and refresh the battery
Weekly checks when the manual requires them
The Anker SOLIX C1000/C1000X UK guide says to check weekly and fully charge the station if it falls below 30%. This is a practical example of why a three-month reminder is not sufficient for every product. A weekly check can also reveal an unexpected drain, a warning code, or a display that no longer responds.
Three-month schedules
Several documents use three months as a recurring interval. The E980 and RIVER 3 Plus call for a charge/discharge cycle every three months before returning to the stated storage level. Jackery’s general FAQ says to power on and check approximately every three months. The C1000/C1000X and F2000 also specify a 100% charge every three months. Set the reminder from the date the station was stored, not from the date you purchased it.

Six-month schedules and long storage
The B300K uses a six-month cycle for its pre-storage 60–80% recommendation, but switches to a three-month cycle when storage exceeds six months. The EcoFlow E980 manual states that warranty coverage does not apply if the unit is not charged or discharged for more than six months. That condition belongs to the E980 manual; it is not evidence that every portable power station has the same warranty rule.

What a refresh cycle means
“Cycle,” “charge and discharge,” and “cycle-charge” are model-specific instructions. Follow the manual for the required sequence and endpoint. Do not invent a deep-discharge routine, run an appliance solely to drain the battery, or leave a station connected indefinitely unless the manufacturer tells you to do so. If the document only says to recharge, recharge; if it says to cycle, use the stated cycle.
Cleaning and inspection between uses
Exterior cleaning
EcoFlow’s RIVER 3 Plus manual states: “Use a soft, dry cloth to wipe and clean the product.” This is a model-specific cleaning instruction, but it is a sensible low-risk method for a dry exterior on any unit unless its manual says otherwise. Do not spray cleaner into ports, use a wet cloth, or introduce compressed air or liquid into ventilation openings.
Physical checks
- Inspect the housing for cracks, deformation, swelling, or heat damage.
- Check AC, DC, USB, solar, and expansion connectors for bent contacts, debris, corrosion, or looseness.
- Examine the supplied charging cable and adapter for cuts, exposed conductors, crushed sections, or heat discoloration.
- Look for moisture before powering the station. If it is wet, disconnect it and follow the manufacturer’s safety instructions rather than attempting a test charge.
Do not open the enclosure or attempt a battery repair as part of routine maintenance. The cited instructions do not establish a user-replaceable battery procedure or a need for a specialized storage case, replacement battery, or maintenance kit.
What to do when the station has been left empty
Do not deliberately store a station at 0% unless the exact manual requires a controlled cycle, as the E980 example does. Jackery says not to store at 0%, and EcoFlow warns that leaving a unit idle with a severely low battery can cause harm.

- Move the station to the manual’s approved temperature range and a dry location.
- Inspect the housing, ports, and charger for damage or moisture.
- Connect the original or manufacturer-approved charger according to the manual.
- Observe the display, indicator lights, temperature, and any error message. Stop if the unit becomes unusually hot, deforms, smells abnormal, or reports a fault.
- Use the manufacturer’s support or service instructions if it will not accept a charge. Do not bypass protection circuits or use an improvised power source.
A unit that still displays a percentage is not automatically safe or healthy after prolonged depletion. Treat the model’s recovery instructions and any warranty terms as controlling.

- Identify the exact configuration. Write down the model number, attached battery modules, and region-specific manual or guide.
- Read the storage section. Find the stated target percentage, check interval, temperature range, and any warranty condition.
- Finish normal use. Disconnect loads and switch off the main power or output ports.
- Set the charge. Reach the manual’s target. For the B300K, select 60–80% for the stated pre-storage case or 40–60% when storage will exceed six months. For the E980, follow its specific 0% discharge followed by a 60% recharge cycle rather than copying that step elsewhere.
- Clean and inspect. Wipe the outside with a soft, dry cloth and resolve visible damage before putting the unit away.
- Store correctly. Use a flat surface in a dry, ventilated, temperature-controlled place away from direct sun, water, and intense heat.
- Record the next action. Note the storage date and schedule the weekly, three-month, or six-month check required by the manual.
Common mistakes and their fixes
Using one percentage for every station
Problem: Treating 60%, 80%, or 100% as a universal rule.
Fix: Use the exact model’s storage target. The documented examples intentionally disagree.
Leaving outputs on
Problem: Connected devices or an enabled AC/DC/USB output slowly drain the battery while the station appears idle.
