To slow battery deterioration, enable System Settings → System → Stop Charging Around 90%. For long-term storage, Nintendo says to charge the console at least once every six months. It also says charging stops automatically when the battery is full, so leaving the console connected to its dock or AC adapter does not cause overcharging.
How do I turn on the Switch 2’s 90% charge limit?
- Open System Settings.
- Select System.
- Turn on Stop Charging Around 90%.
Nintendo says this option can slow battery deterioration. It may still let the battery reach 100% occasionally to calibrate the battery-level display; how often that happens varies with use. The setting’s name and availability may vary by region or software version. These instructions come from Nintendo Support Singapore’s Switch 2 charging guidance.
Nintendo does not quantify how much longer the battery may last with the limit enabled, so treat it as a wear-reduction option rather than a guarantee of a particular lifespan.

During extended storage, charge the console at least once every six months. Nintendo warns that leaving it uncharged for a long period can lead to over-discharge, after which it may not charge properly. Its guidance does not specify a target battery percentage for storage.

Nintendo specifies a charging environment of 5°C to 35°C. That is the stated range for charging; it should not be taken as a separate storage-temperature recommendation.
Should I leave my Switch 2 charging overnight?
Yes. Nintendo says charging stops automatically once the battery is full, and leaving the console connected to the Nintendo Switch 2 dock or AC adapter will not cause overcharging. You can use the 90% limit if you want to reduce battery wear; it is not required to prevent overcharging.

Should I charge my Switch 2 to 100%?
You can allow a full charge: Nintendo says the console stops charging automatically at full. If your priority is slowing battery deterioration, enable the approximately 90% limit instead. The console may occasionally charge to 100% even with the limit on so it can calibrate the battery-level display. Nintendo’s guidance does not establish a specific storage charge percentage or quantify the lifespan difference between these choices.

No, not by overcharging: Nintendo says a full battery stops charging automatically, whether the console is connected to the dock or the AC adapter. Nintendo supports both dock and direct-adapter charging and does not say that one method preserves the battery better than the other.

Which charger should I use?
Nintendo names its Switch 2 AC adapter, model NGN-01, for charging directly or through the dock. The original Switch AC adapter, model HAC-002, can charge a Switch 2 directly, but cannot power it for TV mode while docked.
Nintendo says a third-party AC adapter should provide at least 54 W, but also warns it has not tested commercially available adapters and cannot guarantee their stable operation or safety. Most owners do not need to buy another charger for battery longevity: the 90% limit and periodic charging during storage are the relevant steps.

How long does the battery last, and when should it be replaced?
Nintendo lists the Switch 2’s internal battery as a 5220 mAh lithium-ion battery. Its estimated runtime is approximately 2–6.5 hours, depending on the game and use; runtime gradually declines over time. Nintendo also estimates about three hours to charge while the console is powered off or in sleep mode. If the battery stops charging or usable time becomes short even after charging, Nintendo says it needs replacement and directs owners to its service center. The console battery is not designed for owner replacement.
