If a Galaxy phone is producing misleading summaries of group-chat notifications, turn off the feature at Settings > Galaxy AI > Notification highlights > Summarize notifications, then switch off the control at the top. That prevents notification summaries across supported apps.
If only one messaging app is a problem, use its individual control instead. Samsung says summaries can be enabled or disabled per app on supported devices, allowing summaries to remain on elsewhere. Menu names and availability vary by Galaxy model, One UI version, and app version.
Choose between a global and per-app fix
The right setting depends on whether the problem is broad or limited to one service. Samsung documents both approaches in its Notification highlights support guide.

Prioritize notifications is a separate control Samsung lists alongside Summarize notifications. You do not need to change prioritization merely to stop summaries; select the summarization control that is causing the problem.

What notification summaries are—and why group chats are risky
Notification highlights creates a short digest from conversational notifications instead of showing every message as a separate item. Samsung says the feature uses notification history from the previous 24 hours. In a fast-moving group, that window can contain several topics, jokes, corrections, replies to older messages, and messages from people who disagree. Compressing that stream into a few lines can remove the context needed to identify who said something or whether a proposal was accepted.
Samsung explicitly warns that “Summaries may not always be accurate.” That is the important boundary: the digest is a convenience, not a dependable transcript, quotation, vote count, or record of a group decision. Samsung has not published an accuracy percentage or a guarantee that every statement will be attributed correctly. If the wording matters—for example, a travel change, work instruction, medical detail, or financial decision—open the conversation and read the original messages.
Turn off all Samsung notification summaries
Use this route when summaries are misleading in more than one app or when you prefer ordinary notifications everywhere.
- Open Settings on the Galaxy phone.
- Tap Galaxy AI.
- Tap Notification highlights.
- Tap Summarize notifications.
- Turn off the switch at the top of the page.
The exact labels can differ by device and software release. If the phone uses a slightly different wording, look for the Notification highlights page under Galaxy AI and the control named Summarize notifications rather than changing unrelated notification categories.
Disable summaries for only one messaging app
A per-app change is preferable when, for example, one group-chat service produces confusing digests but you still want summaries from another service. Samsung confirms that Prioritize notifications and Summarize notifications can be controlled for individual apps, although the exact screen depends on the phone.
- Open Settings.
- Go to Galaxy AI > Notification highlights.
- Open the individual app controls. On some phones, the app list appears directly on the Notification highlights page; on others, the route may continue through that app’s notification settings.
- Select the affected messaging app.
- Turn off its Summarize notifications control, if the device presents one.
Choose the specific app that generates the notifications. A phone may have separate entries for different editions of a messaging service, so disabling one entry does not necessarily alter another. If no per-app switch is available, use the global switch; Samsung does not promise per-app controls on every combination of model, software, and app version.
Check that the change matches your goal
When you want no summaries anywhere
Return to Settings > Galaxy AI > Notification highlights > Summarize notifications and confirm that the top-level switch is off. This is the authoritative setting for a phone-wide change.

When you want one app excluded
Open the app-specific controls again and check that the affected app’s summarization switch is off while the top-level feature remains on. Test with later notifications from that app rather than relying on an older digest already displayed in the notification shade.
When the wording or menu is missing
Do not assume the phone is defective. Samsung’s troubleshooting documentation identifies Notification highlights on Galaxy phones running One UI 8.5 or later, including the Galaxy S26 series and newer models. Samsung also says features and menu options vary by device, software version, and app version. Check the phone’s model and One UI version, install any available software update, and look for the setting again. The feature is not guaranteed to exist on every Galaxy phone.
Why a summary may appear—or fail to appear
The conditions that control generation explain why a digest can be intermittent, but they do not make an inaccurate digest reliable. Samsung’s troubleshooting page lists these requirements and limitations:

These thresholds are explanations for missing output, not a recommended way to manage group-chat accuracy. If summaries are appearing but distorting the conversation, switching off Summarize notifications is the direct remedy.

Samsung’s U.S. support guidance lists the following apps as supported at the time of its documentation:

The list is a snapshot of Samsung’s published support, not a permanent compatibility promise. An app can gain or lose support after an app update, a One UI update, or a regional change. If an app is not shown on your phone, use the controls the device actually provides rather than assuming that every app supports summaries.
Samsung’s guidance lists these supported languages: English, Portuguese, Spanish, French, German, Italian, Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Thai, Polish, Vietnamese, and Hindi. A supported language does not guarantee that every slang term, name, abbreviation, or mixed-language group conversation will be summarized correctly.

What disabling summaries changes—and what it does not
Turning off Summarize notifications changes the way Galaxy AI condenses supported conversational alerts. It does not delete the messages in the chat, remove participants, change the app’s own notification wording, or alter the group’s conversation history. It also does not disable every notification from the messaging app. If you still want alerts, leave that app’s ordinary notification permission and categories enabled.

A global switch is broader than muting one conversation. It affects supported apps across the phone, so review the choice if you rely on summaries for a different service. Conversely, a per-app switch is narrower: it is useful when one app’s digests are confusing, but it can be easy to overlook another installation of the same service, such as a business edition. Verify the exact app entry that produced the alert.
Use a simple verification routine after changing the setting
Do not judge the change solely from a digest already visible in the notification shade. That item may have been generated before the switch changed. Instead, confirm the control, then watch a later notification from the affected app.
- Reopen the relevant Galaxy AI page and verify the global or app-specific switch.
- Wait for a new conversational notification from the affected service.
- Check whether the new alert is presented without a Notification highlights digest.
- Open the chat itself if the wording still seems unclear; the original messages remain the reference.
If the top-level switch is off but a messaging app continues to show its own condensed preview, distinguish that app’s notification text from Samsung’s Notification highlights output. Samsung’s setting controls its summarization feature, not every form of preview generated by a third-party app.
Situations where the safest choice is obvious
- Several group-chat apps are misleading: use the global switch so no supported app generates a digest.
- Only one app is affected: use its per-app control when available and preserve summaries elsewhere.
- You need an exact attribution: open the thread regardless of the setting and read the sender’s original message and replies.
- The feature is unavailable: do not keep searching for a hidden control; check model, One UI version, updates, and app support.
- A summary is absent: review Samsung’s timing, character, screen, charging, and Power saving conditions before treating it as a malfunction.
Troubleshoot the common cases
The Notification highlights menu is missing
- Check the Galaxy phone’s model and installed One UI version.
- Install available system updates, then search Settings again for Galaxy AI and Notification highlights.
- Confirm that the phone falls within Samsung’s documented feature scope. The troubleshooting guide refers to One UI 8.5 or later and identifies the Galaxy S26 series and newer models.
- If the menu still does not exist, the feature may not be available for that device, region, software build, or app combination. Do not treat the absence of the menu as evidence that a hidden switch exists elsewhere.
The global switch is off, but you still see an old digest
Check the switch again at the top of the Summarize notifications page and distinguish a previously displayed notification from a newly generated one. The setting controls whether the feature generates summaries; it does not turn the original chat app into a transcript viewer. Open the conversation itself when you need to verify the underlying messages.

Use the per-app control if it is available. If the app-specific switch is absent, disable summaries globally. Also verify that you selected the exact app entry producing the notifications; separately installed app editions can have separate notification controls.
No summary appears, and you are trying to diagnose the feature
Check whether the app is on Samsung’s supported list, whether the conversation has lasted long enough, whether the notifications contain more than 200 characters, and whether the screen is off with at least 30% charge. Power saving mode and low battery also prevent the feature from working. These checks explain nonappearance; they should not be used as a strategy for trusting a summary that has already proved misleading.

The summary is in an unexpected language or misses names
Compare the conversation language with Samsung’s published language list and remember that support is not the same as perfect interpretation. Names, abbreviations, sarcasm, quoted text, and messages that switch languages can be difficult for any automated digest. Read the source messages before acting on an ambiguous statement.
How to use group-chat notifications safely after disabling summaries
Once summaries are disabled, the phone returns to the notification behavior provided by the messaging app and Android’s ordinary notification controls. Keep the app’s notifications enabled if you still need immediate messages, but use the original thread as the source of truth for decisions. A practical review habit is:
- Open the group conversation instead of relying on a headline or digest.
- Locate the messages that contain the proposed action, correction, or decision.
- Check the sender and the surrounding replies; a later message may have changed the earlier plan.
- Confirm the final wording with the group when a misunderstanding could cause harm.
Disabling summaries removes one automated layer; it does not alter what participants wrote, repair a message that was unclear, or prevent the chat app from delivering its own notification text.

- Choose neither as a substitute for verification when the information is consequential. Even a correctly configured summary is a condensed interpretation, and Samsung warns that summaries may not always be accurate.
