To stop Eney’s proactive suggestions on a Mac, open Eney and choose Settings > Proactivity, then switch proactive suggestions off. The same panel has a separate Clipboard control for copied-text prompts. Disable Eney Wand under Settings > Eney Wand, and review scheduled tasks separately. These feature switches change Eney’s behavior; they do not cancel a Setapp subscription. To stop billing, cancel through Setapp account settings.
Turn off Eney’s proactive suggestions
MacPaw’s Privacy Notice says proactive suggestions are enabled by default and can be turned off in Eney’s Proactivity settings. This is the main control for suggestions triggered by information Eney observes on your Mac, rather than only by a question you deliberately type.
- Open Eney on your Mac.
- Open Settings.
- Select Proactivity.
- Switch proactive suggestions off.
After this change, Eney should stop generating the proactive prompts governed by that setting. This is a feature control, not an account cancellation and not necessarily a removal of every other Eney feature. Clipboard suggestions, Eney Wand and scheduled tasks have their own controls or management screens.

If the prompts you want to remove appear after you copy text, use the separate clipboard setting rather than relying only on the main Proactivity switch.

- Open Eney and go to Settings > Proactivity.
- Find Clipboard.
- Turn clipboard suggestions off.
Eney’s Privacy Notice says clipboard history keeps the last 50 copied items in Mac memory. That history is not written to disk or sent to MacPaw, and it is cleared when Eney quits. Copied content can nevertheless be sent to Eney’s AI provider when you paste it into a chat and send it, tap a suggestion, or ask Eney to work with it. Disabling clipboard suggestions prevents this suggestion feature from offering prompts based on copied text; it does not change what you intentionally submit in a chat.
Disable Eney Wand
Eney Wand is a separate, on-demand screen-capture feature. It starts only when you invoke it, such as with its keyboard shortcut, a cursor shake or the plus menu. Wand requires macOS Screen Recording permission because it captures the screen area you select.
- Open Eney.
- Choose Settings > Eney Wand.
- Switch Eney Wand off.
Wand is enabled by default, but it does not continuously capture your screen merely because the feature is enabled. Turning it off removes the invocation paths above. If you also want to revoke the operating-system permission, open macOS System Settings > Privacy & Security > Screen Recording and turn off Eney there. macOS may require you to quit and reopen an app before a permission change takes effect.
Review and disable scheduled tasks
Scheduled tasks are independent of the ordinary proactive-suggestions switch. They can run requests on a schedule and use tools such as Mail, Calendar, Reminders, Mac search, connected services and web search. Their summaries are created by Anthropic, according to Eney’s Privacy Notice.
MacPaw’s published notice explains what scheduled tasks do but does not provide one universal off switch or one permanent menu path for every Eney build. To stop them, open the scheduled-task list in your current Eney version, then disable or remove each task you no longer want. Do not assume that turning off Proactivity removes scheduled tasks; check the list directly and verify that no task remains enabled.

If you cannot find the list, use the labels shown in your installed build rather than following an older screenshot or inventing a path. Product interfaces can change, while the documented behavior remains that scheduled tasks must be managed separately.
What “background activity” means in Eney
With proactivity enabled, MacPaw says Eney may analyze information on the device so it can decide whether a suggestion is useful. The documented categories include:
- File names, file types, sizes and dates in one folder, with Downloads as the default folder.
- File fingerprints used to locate duplicates.
- Running processes and CPU, memory and disk usage.
- Crash reports.
- Copied text.
- The active app.
- The domain of the active browser tab when you have granted Accessibility access.
- Ready meeting notes.
This analysis occurs on your Mac, according to the Privacy Notice. The information is sent to Eney’s AI provider when you tap a suggestion or ask Eney about the information in chat. Therefore, turning off proactive suggestions reduces the analysis associated with that feature, while an intentional interaction can still send relevant content to the provider.
The distinction matters if your goal is to stop Eney from “watching” your Mac. There is no single setting that represents every capability. Proactivity, Clipboard, Wand and scheduled tasks are separate paths with different triggers and data flows.

Use the controls in a deliberate order so that no independent feature is overlooked.

- Turn off Settings > Proactivity.
- In the same Proactivity area, turn off Clipboard.
- Turn off Settings > Eney Wand.
- Open the scheduled-task list and disable or remove every task you do not want running.
- If you granted Accessibility access only for Eney’s browser-context feature, review that permission in macOS System Settings > Privacy & Security > Accessibility and turn Eney off if you no longer want it to read the active browser-tab domain.
- If you granted Screen Recording access for Wand, review System Settings > Privacy & Security > Screen Recording and turn Eney off there as well.
- Quit Eney when you want its in-memory clipboard history cleared. The Privacy Notice says that history is cleared when Eney quits.
These steps address the documented features individually. They are more precise than treating “background activity” as one master switch, because each capability has a different trigger and permission requirement.
Does uninstalling Eney cancel Setapp billing?
No. Eney’s Terms state that uninstalling Eney does not cancel a subscription or stop charges. Removing the app and ending the paid account relationship are separate actions.
To stop charges, sign in to your Setapp account and cancel the subscription through Setapp account settings. The Terms also identify deleting the Setapp account as a way to stop using Eney, but cancellation through the account settings is the relevant step when you want to end a subscription while retaining account access.
If you uninstall first, still check the subscription status in Setapp. Do not infer cancellation from the absence of the Eney app on your Mac.
Privacy implications of each setting
Proactivity and local analysis
The Privacy Notice describes the listed environmental checks as occurring on the Mac. That includes metadata and system-state information such as process activity, resource use and crash reports, not just the contents of a chat. The purpose is to identify a possible suggestion. A suggestion interaction changes the data path: the relevant information can then be sent to Eney’s AI provider when you tap it or ask Eney about it.

Clipboard retention
Clipboard history is limited to the last 50 copied items in memory. It is not stored on disk or sent to MacPaw, and quitting Eney clears it. The separate risk to consider is intentional sharing: pasting an item into chat and sending it, tapping a related suggestion or asking Eney to process it can transmit that copied content to the AI provider.
Browser context and Accessibility
Eney may analyze the domain of the active browser tab when Accessibility access is granted. If that context is not useful to you, disabling Eney’s Accessibility permission in macOS removes that permission path. This is distinct from Screen Recording, which is required for Wand.
Screen capture and Wand
Wand is not described as an always-on recorder. It captures a selected screen area only after invocation, and it needs Screen Recording permission. Turning off the feature in Eney and revoking the macOS permission provides two separate checks against accidental use.

Troubleshooting when suggestions continue
You still see a prompt after switching off Proactivity
Check the Clipboard switch separately. Clipboard suggestions have their own control under Settings > Proactivity, so a copied-text prompt may not indicate that the main switch failed. Also inspect scheduled tasks, which are not governed by the ordinary suggestion control.

Wand still appears available
Confirm the switch under Settings > Eney Wand, then review macOS Screen Recording permission. If the setting changed while Eney was open, quit and reopen Eney so macOS and the app reload the permission state.
A task keeps running
Open the scheduled-task list in the installed Eney build and inspect each task’s enabled state. Because MacPaw does not publish one universal path, menu names may differ by version. Disable or remove the specific task instead of assuming the global Proactivity switch controls it.
Charges continue after removing the app
Use Setapp account settings to check and cancel the subscription. Eney’s Terms explicitly separate uninstallation from cancellation, so reinstalling or deleting the app will not resolve a billing issue by itself.
When you might keep some controls enabled
You do not have to choose between every Eney capability and none of them. For example, you could disable proactive suggestions and Clipboard while leaving Wand available for deliberate screen selections, provided you accept its Screen Recording permission. Conversely, you could keep suggestions off while retaining a scheduled task that you intentionally configured, then audit that task’s connected services and schedule. The controls are granular, so choose them according to whether you want to remove unsolicited prompts, copied-text processing, screen capture or automation.
Eney’s product context
MacPaw launched Eney for Mac and iPhone on October 15, 2026, describing it as a proactive AI assistant. The launch announcement says Eney asks before sending a message, changing an event or moving a file by default. That confirmation behavior does not eliminate the need to manage background-analysis features: asking for approval before an action and deciding whether Eney should analyze local context are separate choices.
MacPaw reported that 81% of US Mac users had used an AI tool in the previous three months, based on research conducted in July and August 2026. In the same research, 39% said AI was embedded in how they work. Those figures describe the US respondents in that research period; they are not a measurement of Eney’s settings or adoption worldwide.
