Turn off iCloud Reminders on the device that should stop receiving the shared list. On an iPhone or iPad, go to Settings > your name > iCloud > See All (or Show All) > Reminders, switch Reminders off, and choose what to do with reminders already stored on that device. On a Mac, use the equivalent iCloud control in System Settings. Leave Reminders enabled on devices that should continue syncing.
Why your reminders appear on every device
Reminders saved in iCloud are shared by devices signed in to the same Apple Account when the iCloud Reminders feature is enabled. A reminder created or edited on one participating iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch, or Mac can therefore appear on the others. This is an iCloud account setting, not a Bluetooth, USB, or cable connection.

To isolate one device, disable iCloud Reminders on that device only. Other devices using the same Apple Account remain part of the shared list unless you also change their settings.
Stop syncing on an iPhone or iPad
- Open Settings.
- Tap your name at the top.
- Tap iCloud.
- Tap See All or Show All to view apps using iCloud.
- Tap or switch off Reminders.
- Read the confirmation prompt and select whether to keep existing reminders on that iPhone or iPad.
With the switch off, new reminders created on that device are not added to the iCloud Reminders set, and iCloud reminders from your other devices stop appearing there. Turning the switch back on restores that device’s participation in iCloud Reminders.
#1 Best Overall
- Vibrant 6.1-inch Super Retina XDR display with OLED technology. Action mode for smooth, steady, handheld videos.
Choosing “keep” or removing local reminders
The prompt applies to reminders currently stored on the device you are changing. Before choosing, check that important items are still visible on another participating device or at iCloud.com/reminders. The keep option leaves a local copy on the device; removing them from that device does not delete the reminders from other devices that remain connected to iCloud.
Stop syncing on a Mac
macOS 15 and later
- Open the Apple menu and choose System Settings.
- Click your name in the sidebar.
- Click iCloud.
- Next to Saved to iCloud, click See All.
- Turn off Reminders and review the resulting prompt.
macOS 13.3 through macOS 14
- Open Apple menu > System Settings.
- Click your name, then iCloud.
- Under Apps Using iCloud, choose Show All or Show More Apps.
- Turn off Reminders.
macOS 13.0 through 13.2
Open Apple menu > System Settings > your name > iCloud, then use the direct Reminders control shown there. Apple changed the labels and grouping between macOS releases, but the setting remains the iCloud Reminders switch.

What each choice does
| Action | Scope | Effect on the changed device | Effect on other devices |
|---|---|---|---|
| Turn off Reminders and keep local data | One iPhone, iPad, or Mac | Existing reminders remain locally; future changes no longer use iCloud Reminders | Other devices continue syncing with one another |
| Turn off Reminders and remove local data | One device | iCloud Reminders disappear from that device | Reminders remain on participating devices |
| Leave Reminders on | That device stays in the iCloud set | It continues receiving and uploading changes | No change |
| Use a different Apple Account | Account-wide separation | The device sees the other account’s reminder data, if any | Devices on the original account remain together |
If reminders still appear after you turn the switch off
- Check every device. A Mac, iPad, or iPhone with Reminders still enabled can continue showing the shared iCloud list. Inspect Settings > your name > iCloud > Reminders on each iPhone or iPad and the corresponding iCloud page in Mac System Settings.
- Verify the Apple Account. Confirm that the device is signed in to the account you intended. A different account has a different Reminders collection, so changing the setting on the wrong account will not affect the reminders you are seeing.
- Distinguish local lists from iCloud lists. After iCloud Reminders is disabled, a locally stored list can still be visible in the Reminders app. That does not mean it is syncing through iCloud.
- Check the prompt’s choice. If you selected to keep reminders, they can remain visible locally even though the device is no longer participating in iCloud Reminders.
- Recheck after a connection is available. Apple recommends repeating the iCloud Reminders checks on each device when synchronization is unreliable.
How to keep only your iPhone’s reminders private from the Mac and iPad
- On the iPhone, confirm that the reminders you care about are present and, if necessary, verify them on another participating device or at iCloud.com/reminders.
- Disable Reminders under the iPhone’s iCloud settings.
- Choose Keep on My iPhone (or the equivalent keep option) if you want the existing items available locally.
- Leave iCloud Reminders enabled on any other devices that should continue sharing a separate iCloud set.
New reminders made on the isolated iPhone stay outside the iCloud Reminders set. If you later enable the switch again, the iPhone rejoins iCloud Reminders; review the resulting lists carefully so you know which items are local and which are in iCloud.
Important limits
This setting is device-specific, not a per-list privacy control. You cannot use it to hide only one reminder list from a Mac while keeping other iCloud lists synchronized on that same Mac. For that kind of separation, use a separate Apple Account or keep the desired list outside iCloud, accepting that it will not be available through iCloud on your other devices.
