Instagram does not offer a single pregnancy, baby, or parenting switch. The most effective approach is layered: mark each unwanted recommendation Not interested, add topic terms and hashtags to Hidden Words, reset Suggested content if recommendations remain stuck, and use Following or Favorites for a tighter day-to-day feed. Sensitive Content Control can reduce some sensitive recommendations, but Meta does not describe it as a pregnancy-specific filter.
These settings reduce recommendations; they do not guarantee that every related post disappears. Content from accounts you follow, direct shares, Stories, advertisements, and images whose captions contain none of your blocked terms may need separate action.
Use this sequence first
Work through the controls in this order. Start with the immediate signal, then add a text filter, and finally reset or narrow the recommendation surfaces if necessary.
- Reject each unwanted recommendation: on the post, tap the X in the upper-right corner or open the three-dot menu and choose Not interested.
- Add topic terms to Hidden Words: include words, phrases, emojis, and hashtags connected with pregnancy, babies, and parenting.
- Reset Suggested content: use this when Explore, Reels, or Feed keeps returning to the same subject despite repeated feedback.
- Switch to Following or Favorites: use these views when you want to catch up with selected accounts rather than browse recommendations.
- Review Sensitive Content Control: choose a stricter setting if you also want fewer recommendations that Instagram classifies as sensitive.
Before changing settings, identify where the post came from
The right control depends on the source. A suggested reel in Explore is a recommendation, while a post from an account you follow is an account-level issue. A friend’s Story, a direct message, and an advertisement each appear through a different surface. Treating all of them as if they were the same can make the settings seem ineffective.

- Posts from followed accounts: consider unfollowing, muting, or blocking the account when appropriate. Recommendation settings do not replace those choices.
- Stories and direct shares: use the controls shown on the Story, account, or conversation. A recommendation signal does not stop somebody from sending you a post.
- Advertisements: open the ad’s own options and use the available feedback or hiding action.
This source check also helps you choose between a narrow, day-to-day feed and a broader cleanup. You may not need to reset recommendations if the unwanted material is coming from one account you already follow.
1. Mark every unwanted recommendation “Not interested”
This is the fastest per-post control. On an unwanted pregnancy, baby, maternity, or parenting recommendation, tap the X in the upper-right corner. If the X is not shown, open the post’s three-dot menu and tap Not interested.
Instagram removes that post immediately and uses the signal to suggest fewer similar posts in the future. Apply it consistently wherever the topic appears:

Use the control on the actual recommendation rather than merely scrolling past it. Repeat it for different versions of the topic—for example, a pregnancy announcement, a newborn reel, a maternity product post, and a general parenting account—because each interaction gives Instagram another example of what you do not want.
What this control changes
- Scope: the individual recommendation and the similarity signals associated with it.
- Speed: the current post is removed immediately.
- Reversibility: it is a preference signal, not a permanent account block; future recommendations can still change as you interact with Instagram.
- Coverage: it applies to recommendations, not automatically to posts from accounts you follow, direct messages, Stories, or every advertisement.
How to use it consistently
Do not interact with an unwanted post in ways that could be interpreted as interest. Use the menu action, then continue browsing. If similar recommendations appear in more than one surface, give the same signal in each place. The goal is not to remove one isolated post only; it is to provide repeated examples across the recommendation surfaces you use.
2. Filter matching text with Hidden Words
Hidden Words lets you add custom words, phrases, emojis, and hashtags to Instagram’s content-preference controls. Instagram can then hide recommendation content containing those terms in captions. The control is text-based, so it cannot be promised to catch a video or image whose subject is visible but not named in its caption or hashtag.
Open the setting
From your profile, open Instagram’s menu and go to Content preferences, then open Hidden Words. Instagram can move labels between app versions, so look for the content-preference area if the wording on your device differs.
Build a practical starting list
Add terms individually, including common variations. A broad list catches more wording but may hide unrelated posts that happen to use the same term.

Include spelling, spacing, and hashtag variants that you actually see. If a term hides too much unrelated content, remove that term rather than making the entire filter less precise. You can adjust the list later as you notice new wording.
Understand the coverage limit
Hidden Words matches the text Instagram documents—captions, phrases, emojis, and hashtags. It is not a visual-recognition guarantee. A silent reel showing a baby, for example, may have no matching text at all. That is why Hidden Words works best alongside Not interested and, when needed, account-level actions.
Use precise terms before broad ones
Start with the words that appear most often in the unwanted recommendations. Adding every possible general word can hide posts that use the term in an unrelated context. If the first list is too narrow, expand it with a spelling variant, a hashtag, or a related phrase. This makes the filter easier to troubleshoot than entering a very broad list all at once.

3. Reset Suggested content when recommendations are stuck
Use a reset when the recommendation profile remains dominated by pregnancy, baby, or parenting material after you have repeatedly marked posts as unwanted. It is the clean-slate option for suggested content, not a topic-specific block.
Exact path
- Open your Instagram profile.
- Tap the three-line More options icon.
- Select Content preferences.
- Tap Reset suggested content.
- Review the confirmation screen and tap Reset suggested content again.
After the reset, Instagram says recommendations personalize again over time from the accounts and content you interact with. The reset also offers a review of followed accounts, giving you an opportunity to unfollow accounts whose posts you no longer want in your regular experience.
What a reset does not mean
- It is not a permanent block on pregnancy, baby, or parenting topics.
- It does not erase the need to use Not interested when an unwanted recommendation returns.
- It does not automatically remove every account you follow; use the account review to decide whom to unfollow.
- It does not control direct shares, Stories, or advertisements shown under separate systems.
Think of the reset as a clean starting point for recommendations, followed by deliberate interactions that teach Instagram what you want to see instead. Continue using the per-post control after resetting rather than assuming the reset alone will permanently change every surface.
4. Use Following or Favorites for a more controlled feed
Recommendation controls are most useful when you still want to browse broadly. When you simply want updates from chosen accounts, switch feed views instead.

Meta describes the Following feed as showing posts only from accounts you follow, in chronological order. It reduces exposure to suggested posts while you catch up with those accounts.

Favorites
Favorites lets you select accounts, places those accounts higher in your feed, and provides a dedicated Favorites feed. Add only accounts whose posts you actively want to see, then use that feed when you need the narrowest routine view.
When to choose each view

These views do not change what an account can send you directly or what appears in another Instagram surface. They are feed choices, not topic blocks. You can use Following or Favorites for routine check-ins while leaving the broader recommendation settings in place for occasional discovery.
5. Try Sensitive Content Control as a supplementary reduction
Instagram’s Sensitive Content Control is designed to let you choose how much sensitive content appears in Explore. The documented choices are:
- Allow
- Limit
- Limit Even More
Meta does not identify pregnancy or parenting as a dedicated category in this setting. Use it as an additional reduction option if you want less content Instagram classifies as sensitive, not as a guaranteed pregnancy filter. The Allow choice is unavailable to people under 18.
Because this control is broader than the topic in this guide, a stricter choice can reduce other material you would prefer to keep. Review the result in Explore after changing it and combine it with Hidden Words or per-post feedback for topic-specific control. It should supplement, not replace, the more targeted steps above.
A practical cleanup routine
If you want to make several changes in one pass, use this order:
- Open Explore or Reels and mark each unwanted suggested post Not interested.
- Note recurring caption words, emojis, phrases, and hashtags.
- Add those terms to Hidden Words, starting with the most specific wording.
- Check whether the material is actually coming from accounts you follow. Unfollow, mute, or block those accounts when appropriate.
- Reset Suggested content if the recommendation profile is still heavily focused on the topic.
- Review the followed-account choices offered during the reset.
- Use Following or Favorites for ordinary catch-up while recommendations rebuild.
- Choose Limit or Limit Even More in Sensitive Content Control only if you also want a broader reduction in Explore.
This sequence separates immediate removal, text matching, profile cleanup, account management, and feed selection. That makes it easier to tell which setting addressed which source.

What to do when unwanted content still appears
Posts from an account you follow
Recommendation settings are not a substitute for managing followed accounts. If a followed account repeatedly posts material you do not want, unfollow it or use Instagram’s account-level mute or block options when appropriate. The reset’s account-review screen is also a useful point to reassess your follows.
Stories or direct shares
A friend’s Story or a post sent to you directly is not the same as an Explore recommendation. Handle it from that account, Story, or conversation using the controls Instagram presents there. Marking an unrelated recommendation as Not interested will not stop a person from sending you a post.
Advertisements
Ads have their own menu and controls. If an advertisement is the problem, open that ad’s options and use the available feedback or hiding action rather than relying only on Hidden Words.

A visual post has no matching text
Hidden Words may not catch it. Mark the recommendation Not interested; if the source is an account you follow, manage that account separately. This combination addresses the text-filter limitation without pretending that Instagram can block every image by subject.
The same topic returns after a reset
- Use Not interested on each returning recommendation.
- Check Hidden Words for missing synonyms, spacing variants, and hashtags.
- Review followed accounts and unfollow sources you no longer want.
- Use Following or Favorites while you catch up with chosen accounts.
- Keep in mind that recommendations personalize again from your later interactions, so browsing, saving, or engaging with related material can influence what appears next.
Expectations and limits
Instagram does not publish a percentage success rate or a fixed time in which these settings will remove pregnancy, baby, or parenting recommendations. The controls describe intended behavior—fewer similar recommendations, text-based hiding, or a recommendation reset—not a guaranteed complete block.
For the strongest practical reduction, combine the controls according to the source of the unwanted material: Not interested for a recommendation, Hidden Words for matching text, account actions for followed sources, and Following or Favorites when you want a deliberately narrow feed.

Can I block all pregnancy posts on Instagram with one setting?

Will Hidden Words hide a baby video if the caption says nothing about babies?
Not reliably. Hidden Words works from matching words, phrases, emojis, and hashtags, so a visually identifiable post without those terms may still appear.

Does resetting Suggested content unfollow everyone?
No. The reset offers a review of followed accounts so you can choose whom to unfollow; it is not an automatic mass-unfollow action.
Why do I still see parenting posts after choosing Not interested?
Not interested reduces similar recommendations but does not control followed-account posts, direct shares, Stories, advertisements, or every visual-only post. Use the control repeatedly and manage those other sources separately.
