To stop bookmarks piling up, make saving effortless, keep destinations few, and search before you reorganize. Start with the browser you already use: Chrome can save, find, sort, move, edit, and delete bookmarks without another app. Add a dedicated manager only if you need capabilities such as richer search, cross-device access, or archived copies.
Why saved links become hard to use
A bookmark collection can grow faster than its organization. When every saved page gets its own folder or tag, filing becomes another task—and retroactively organizing a large library can be a chore. People in a public bookmark-management discussion describe having many saved links but struggling to find a particular one; that is useful as an example, not a measure of how common the problem is.
The goal is not to read every saved page. It is to make a useful link easy to capture, plausible to find later, and simple to remove when it no longer matters.

1. Capture with minimal friction
Save a link as soon as you decide it may be useful. If the page title is vague or unlikely to jog your memory, add a short note that answers “Why did I save this?” A phrase such as “compare these keyboard shortcuts” is more useful than a generic title like “Home.” Do not turn capture into a research project: detailed descriptions and perfect tags can wait until you have a recurring retrieval problem.

2. Use a few destinations
Start with one place for links you intend to read and another for material you may need to refer to. You can call them “To read” and “Reference,” or choose labels that match how you think. If even that division adds friction, one collection is enough. A small number of destinations is easier to maintain than a deep folder tree.
3. Search before rearranging
When you need a saved page, search first. Chrome Help documents bookmark search from the address bar: enter @bookmarks, then search for the saved item. If a result is difficult to distinguish, improve its title or add a helpful note when you encounter it rather than reorganizing the entire library in advance.

4. Review a small batch now and then
Occasionally scan a manageable handful of saved links. Keep items that remain useful, take the next step on links that represent an action, and delete pages that are no longer relevant. There is no requirement to finish reading everything you saved. A brief, occasional cleanup is more sustainable than treating the whole collection as overdue homework.

If you repeatedly lose the same kind of link, add a tag or create a collection that addresses that specific gap. Otherwise, leave the structure alone. Optional tags and bulk-editing tools can help with a real sorting need, but tagging a large archive just because it exists may create more maintenance without making retrieval meaningfully better.

Can Chrome bookmarks do the job?
For someone who already uses Chrome, its built-in bookmarks are a sensible starting point. Google’s Chrome Help describes saving bookmarks, finding them through address-bar search, creating folders, sorting, moving, editing, and deleting saved pages. These features cover the basic capture-and-retrieval workflow; a separate service is not a prerequisite.
Use Chrome if your main need is to save ordinary web pages and find them again in the browser. If your routine already works, there is little value in migrating everything merely to get a more elaborate system.

When a dedicated bookmark manager may help
A dedicated library can be useful when browser bookmarks no longer meet a specific need, such as organizing links across devices, searching information extracted from pages, or keeping copies of some pages. Those are feature differences, not proof that a dedicated service will make anyone revisit saved links.

Raindrop.io is one example. Its help documentation describes collections, optional tags, extracted page metadata, search across saved information, and bulk operations such as moving, tagging, or deleting bookmarks. It also describes full-text extraction for web pages and several file types. Raindrop.io says full-text search and permanent copies are among the Pro features; its published plan information describes the free tier as supporting unlimited devices, bookmarks, and collections. Check the service’s current plan details before choosing it, since plan terms can change.

Know what an archive can—and cannot—preserve
Raindrop.io’s web-archive documentation describes limits that matter if you are relying on a saved copy rather than just a link. Its archive may miss pages that require a login or block capture; it skips files larger than 70 MB and does not capture embedded video, audio, or iframes. Archived copies are tied to Pro subscription status. An archive is therefore a useful extra for some pages, not a guarantee that every page or media element will be preserved indefinitely.

Stay with the browser if you mostly need quick saving and basic search. Consider a dedicated manager if you can name a recurring problem its features would solve. Avoid migrating a large collection until you know how you will search and maintain it in the new system.
