UB on a Samsung washer generally means the load is unbalanced, so the washer cannot complete its spin. Pause the cycle, untangle and spread out the laundry, then close the door and restart. If the code returns, check the washer’s placement and load size before consulting the manual for your exact model.
What UB means on a Samsung washer
Samsung groups Ub, UE, U6, Ur, 1 Ub, and 1U6 under unbalanced-load information. The exact display and meaning can vary by model, so check the model-specific manual if the code does not match these descriptions. Samsung says Ur indicates that the washer is retrying: it may add water, attempt to balance the load, and try to spin again. Other codes in this group indicate the cycle may not finish because of an imbalance. Samsung’s US information-code guidance also notes that some codes, including dc, can have different meanings on different models.
The code points to a load-balance or spin problem; it does not, by itself, identify a failed washer part. Samsung’s guidance recommends troubleshooting the load and washer setup if the code persists rather than diagnosing a specific component from UB alone.

What to do when UB appears
- Pause the cycle and redistribute the laundry. Untangle items and spread them around the drum so a heavy clump is not gathered on one side. Close the door and restart the cycle. This is Samsung’s first recommended check for the unbalanced-load code group. Samsung US troubleshooting
- Consider whether the load is too small or dominated by one bulky item. A single bathrobe or pair of jeans may be difficult to spin evenly. Samsung UK recommends adding one or two towels to an undersized load and starting Rinse/Spin. Only add items that are suitable for the selected cycle and fabrics. Samsung UK washing-machine guidance
- Check the washer’s position and feet. The washer should sit on a flat, stable surface, with all four feet touching the floor and balanced. A small bubble level can help you check placement, but Samsung does not require one. Samsung India placement guidance
- Review the load and selected cycle. Avoid overloading, distribute laundry evenly, and choose a cycle suited to the fabric. Follow the manual for your model rather than applying another region’s or model’s load limits. Samsung India, for example, gives bedding-cover limits that are specific to its guidance: 3.0 kg or less for top-load machines; for front-load machines, 800 rpm maximum and 2.0 kg or less. - Give the washer time if it is retrying. Samsung UK says a washer may rotate slowly in both directions to reposition laundry, which can extend the cycle. It may also reduce the final spin speed when a slower spin is appropriate. Samsung UK cycle guidance
- Escalate if UB keeps returning. Consult the manual for your precise model and contact Samsung support if the washer repeatedly cannot complete a spin after you have checked the load and placement. Why the code can appear even when the washer is working
Heavy or bulky items can shift to one side, and a very small load may not distribute evenly enough for a stable spin. The washer can respond by slowing down, attempting to redistribute the laundry, or stopping the spin. Placement, load size, and cycle choice can also affect whether it completes the spin.

Samsung India describes UE/UB as a code shown when the washer detects an unbalanced load and stops the spin for safety reasons. Samsung India’s official explanation uses that wording; the precise behavior and code shown depend on the washer model.
When basic troubleshooting is not enough
If UB recurs after you have redistributed the laundry, checked that the washer is stable, and confirmed the load and cycle are appropriate, use the manual for your model or contact Samsung support. The code alone does not establish that a bearing, suspension component, sensor, or control board has failed. A model-specific diagnosis is needed before considering a repair.
