Short answer: Launch The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, choose New Game from the main menu, and begin your own save. A community playthrough is a coordinated discussion and progress plan around separate single-player games—not an in-game co-op session.

Before you start, confirm the organizer, platform and edition, start date, discussion venue, checkpoint pace, and spoiler policy. The current official game page describes The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt — Remastered as an updated edition with visual, performance, gameplay, and character-progression improvements. That choice can affect which instructions and save features apply.

What a community playthrough actually is

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is a single-player open-world role-playing game. A community playthrough adds a social layer outside the game: participants begin around the same time, follow an agreed pace, and discuss what they have seen in a forum, chat group, watch-along, or editorial club. Everyone controls a separate save.

What’s actually slowing this PC down?

There is no shared lobby to join and no cooperative campaign session to launch. A message saying “join the playthrough” normally means “join the discussion and follow the schedule,” not “connect your console or PC to another player’s world.”

Community activity What happens in the game What you need to do
Group start Each participant creates a personal new game. Start your save near the announced date and identify your platform and edition.
Progress check-in You play until the agreed stopping point. Report progress without revealing details beyond the permitted spoiler level.
Discussion There is no change to the single-player session. Use the organizer’s designated discussion space and follow its spoiler labels.
Watch-along or club meeting Participants may discuss the same section while playing separately. Attend only if the event requires it; the game itself remains offline from the group.

If an invitation promises drop-in multiplayer, shared combat, or a common save, verify it carefully. That description does not match the single-player structure of this game.

Confirm the event before you install anything

No particular playthrough, organizer, date, or join link is established here. Treat every community event as a separate publication or group whose rules must be checked at the time you join. Do not infer that an old announcement is still accepting participants.

  1. Identify the organizer. Use the event’s current announcement or home page, and make sure the account or publication actually controls the discussion space.
  2. Record the starting date and time. Note the time zone as well as the calendar date. “Starts Friday” is ambiguous if participants are in different regions.
  3. Confirm the platform. Ask whether the group expects PC, a particular console family, or any platform on which the organizer has tested the instructions.
  4. Confirm the edition. Establish whether the group is using the original release, the Remastered edition, or a platform-specific version. Do not assume that a store label, visual setting, or save made on one device proves edition compatibility.
  5. Read the pace. Find out whether the group uses dates, quest or chapter checkpoints, a number of play sessions, or a monthly discussion. If no cadence is published, ask before beginning.
  6. Find the discussion venue. It may be a forum, a chat server, a video call, or a comments area. Obtain the exact channel or thread name rather than relying on a general community homepage.
  7. Read the spoiler policy. Check what counts as a spoiler, whether titles and thumbnails must be marked, and whether separate channels exist for people at different points in the story.
  8. Ask about late arrivals. Some groups allow a participant to start after the opening date; others lock each discussion after a checkpoint. Know the rule before posting.
Question to ask Why it matters What to write down
Who runs the event? You need the authoritative source for changes and moderation. Organizer name and official announcement location.
When does it begin? Different time zones can move the effective start date. Date, time, and time zone.
Which platform and edition? Menu labels, updates, and save behavior can differ. Platform, store version, and edition wording.
How fast should I play? It determines when you should stop and discuss. Checkpoint names, dates, or session limits.
Where do we talk? A general community feed may contain unmarked spoilers. Exact thread, channel, or meeting location.
What are the spoiler rules? You need to know what can be posted safely. Allowed scope, labels, and grace period.

Choose the right edition and platform

The official game page currently describes The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt — Remastered as an updated edition. The listed changes cover visuals, performance, gameplay, character progression, and interface elements. Those descriptions establish what the edition is intended to improve, but they do not establish a universal store listing, price, or platform schedule. Check the current listing for your region and the event’s own requirements.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
Decision area What is established What you must verify
Edition features The Remastered edition is described as improving visuals, performance, gameplay, character progression, and interface. Whether the organizer’s checkpoints and screenshots assume that edition.
Platform availability Not stated as a complete, permanent list in the available material. The current store listing and the platform named by the organizer.
Save compatibility CD PROJEKT RED says Remastered save files remain compatible. Your exact platform, account, and version combination.
Cross progression CD PROJEKT RED says cross progression remains functional as before. Whether your two specific platforms and accounts are supported.
Switch 2 upgrade The announcement says the Switch 2 version is a free upgrade for owners of The Witcher 3 on the original Switch. Current eligibility and store availability before relying on that upgrade.

When the group uses Remastered

Match the event’s edition if the organizer refers to a visual change, interface option, progression feature, or platform build that exists only in Remastered. If the organizer does not require an edition, state yours in your introduction so other participants can interpret screenshots and menu descriptions correctly.

When participants use different platforms

Different platforms can show different menu wording and update behavior. Agree on story checkpoints rather than assuming that everyone will see an identical interface. If an event requires a specific platform, treat that requirement as authoritative even if another version is available to you.

Switch 2 upgrade eligibility

The publisher’s announcement describes a free Switch 2 upgrade for owners of the original Switch version. Upgrade eligibility and current store availability can change, so verify the live platform listing before planning an event around it. Do not treat the announcement as proof that every account, region, or purchase path qualifies today.

Prepare the game and your save before the start date

Preparation prevents a technical problem from turning into a spoiler problem on the first discussion day. Complete these checks before the group begins:

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  1. Install the edition named by the organizer. If the event permits several editions, record which one you selected.
  2. Apply the latest available game update. CD PROJEKT RED’s cross-progression instructions specifically tell players to use the latest patch.
  3. Launch the game once. Let the platform finish any first-run setup, then close it normally. This confirms that the installation starts before the group session.
  4. Check the account used by the platform. If you plan to transfer a save, note which account is signed in on both devices. Do not assume that owning the game on two platforms automatically links those accounts.
  5. Decide whether this is a fresh event save. Keep an existing personal playthrough separate unless the organizer explicitly allows an ongoing save. A new save makes checkpoint and spoiler discussions easier to follow.
  6. Write down the event’s stopping rule. Put the next checkpoint and its date somewhere you will see it before launching the game.
  7. Make a private note of your platform and edition. This lets you answer technical questions without posting a screenshot that could reveal story content.

Prices, retail inventory, and current store links are not fixed by the available information. Match any purchase to the platform and edition the event actually supports rather than choosing from an outdated listing.

Start a new game

The original PC manual describes the basic route as starting from the main menu and choosing New Game. Updated builds and console versions can change the wording or arrangement, so use the equivalent current menu item if your platform differs.

  1. Open the game’s main menu. Wait until the title screen and menu are fully loaded.
  2. Select “New Game.” Do not choose “Load” if the community has asked everyone to begin together. If your build uses a different label, select the option that creates a new story save.
  3. Complete the prompts shown by your build. Options such as difficulty or accessibility may appear in a different order by platform. Record choices only if the organizer asks participants to standardize them.
  4. Create or confirm the save. If the platform lets you name saves, use a private, recognizable name that distinguishes the event from personal playthroughs.
  5. Play only to the first announced stopping point. The event’s schedule, not another player’s visible progress, determines when you should pause.
  6. Exit through the game’s normal save and quit flow. Avoid assuming that closing the application immediately has completed a save.

What should I do first?

There is no verified, event-specific quest order attached to this topic. Use the objectives and stopping points supplied by your organizer. If the organizer has not published a route, ask for a spoiler-safe checkpoint before you begin rather than copying a stranger’s unmarked walkthrough.

For a first session, prioritize understanding the agreed boundary: know the last point you may discuss, the point at which you should stop, and the channel in which questions belong. Keep personal observations in a private note until the group permits that section of the story. This lets you ask for gameplay help without accidentally revealing a plot turn to someone who is behind.

Enable cross progression when you need to switch devices

Cross progression is useful when the same participant moves a playthrough between supported devices. It is not a way to put several players in one world. CD PROJEKT RED’s official PC support directions specify the following sequence:

  1. Update the game. Install the latest patch on the source and destination versions you intend to use.
  2. Open the options menu on the source installation.
  3. Choose Options → Gameplay → Cross Progression. Turn the feature on using the control shown by your build.
  4. Launch the destination platform’s version. Use the account and edition you intend to continue with.
  5. Select “My Rewards” on the destination platform. The publisher’s instructions use this step to make the available progression appear on the other device.
  6. Load the transferred save and test it before the next group checkpoint. Do not wait until a live discussion to discover that the destination version cannot use that save.

These directions establish the feature and its basic setup, not universal compatibility across every platform, account, store, region, or edition. Check the publisher’s current support page for your exact combination. If the event requires a device switch, tell the organizer in advance so a delay does not look like missed participation.

Symptom Likely check Next action
The cross-progression option is missing. The game may not be on the latest patch, or the menu layout may differ. Update the installation, then look again under Options → Gameplay.
The destination has no expected save. The destination version may not have been launched, or the account may differ. Launch that version, choose My Rewards, and confirm the signed-in account.
The save still cannot be used. Your platform or edition combination may not be supported. Consult the current support instructions and ask the organizer whether a same-device plan is acceptable.
A transfer works but the menu looks different. Platform builds can use different labels or interface arrangements. Follow the equivalent option on that build and report the platform when requesting help.

Join the discussion without inventing a join link

Because a specific event has not been verified, the safe joining process is to use the organizer’s current instructions rather than a guessed invitation. A reliable sequence is:

  1. Open the organizer’s current event announcement. Confirm that it names the game, edition or platform assumptions, start date, and discussion location.
  2. Read any rules before requesting access. Some groups require an account, an introduction, or acceptance of a spoiler policy.
  3. Enter the designated thread or channel. Do not announce your progress in a general feed if that feed is not spoiler-controlled.
  4. Introduce your technical context. State your platform and edition, not your plot progress. For example: “I’m starting the Remastered edition on PC and will follow the posted checkpoint schedule.”
  5. Ask one precise question if information is missing. Request the next checkpoint, time zone, or spoiler boundary instead of asking the whole group to repeat its rules.
  6. Save the organizer’s update location. Schedule changes and corrections should come from that source, not from an old screenshot or forwarded message.

Do not claim that a community is active, open to new members, or still following its original schedule unless the event page confirms it when you publish or join.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Follow the pace and protect other players from spoilers

Use checkpoint language

Report progress in the same terms the organizer uses: a published checkpoint, a date, or a session number. If the event uses story sections, quote only the section label supplied by the organizer. Avoid replacing it with a description of what happens there, because that description can spoil the section for someone who has not reached it.

Separate discussion by spoiler level

Use a spoiler-free area for technical questions and early impressions. Put permitted story discussion behind the group’s required spoiler label or in the designated channel. If you need to discuss a surprise, ask where it belongs before posting it. A warning in a channel title does not make an unmarked post safe if readers can see previews.

Keep private notes while playing

Write theories, character names, and questions in a private note until the relevant checkpoint opens. This helps when the group’s discussion window is delayed and prevents an accidental public draft from becoming a spoiler.

What to do if you are behind or ahead

If you are behind

Tell the organizer privately that you are behind and ask whether you should read the current discussion, wait, or use a catch-up window. Continue at a pace that keeps the game enjoyable; do not rush through a story section merely to meet an arbitrary post time. Until you reach the open checkpoint, avoid channels that contain later discussion.

If you are ahead

Stop posting at the group’s boundary. Mark your private notes with the later checkpoint so you do not accidentally quote them in an earlier thread. If the event permits free play ahead of schedule, ask whether future discussion is separated; otherwise, treat all later story information as restricted.

If you join late

Ask for the current checkpoint and the spoiler boundary for newcomers. You may be able to play privately to that point and then join the live discussion, but that is an event rule—not an automatic right. Do not demand a complete recap in the public channel if the group has chosen to preserve discoveries for new participants.

Troubleshoot the common starting problems

“New Game” is not where the manual says it is

The PC manual describes the route, but current platform menus and updated builds can differ. Return to the title screen, check for an available update, and look for the equivalent option that creates a new save. If the organizer published a platform-specific path, follow that wording.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

The event’s edition does not match your installation

Stop before progressing and ask the organizer whether the difference matters for the schedule or screenshots. CD PROJEKT RED says Remastered save files remain compatible, but that statement does not remove the need to verify your particular platform, account, and build.

The game asks for an update during the event

Install the update before continuing if possible, then confirm that your save still loads. A patch can change menu labels even when the story checkpoint remains the same. Tell the organizer your platform and update status if you need help.

Cross progression does not appear

Use the documented order: latest patch, Options → Gameplay → Cross Progression, destination launch, and My Rewards. If the option or save remains absent, check the current support guidance for your exact combination rather than repeatedly creating new saves that could be confused with the event save.

You posted a spoiler in the wrong place

Do not edit the post into a vague hint and assume the problem is solved. Follow the group’s correction procedure, which may involve deleting the message, notifying a moderator, and reposting behind the required spoiler control. Keep the explanation factual and do not repeat the revealed detail while apologizing.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

You cannot attend the scheduled discussion

Ask whether the event keeps an asynchronous thread open. If it does, post only within the checkpoint’s spoiler boundary and read replies in order. If it does not, continue privately and rejoin at the next permitted checkpoint.

A practical checkpoint plan when the organizer has not supplied one

If the group is still designing its schedule, propose a simple structure rather than inventing a quest-by-quest route. The organizer can attach dates and exact stopping points later.

Stage Participant action Discussion boundary
Start Confirm platform, edition, fresh save, and update status. Introductions and technical questions only.
Early checkpoint Play to the first organizer-selected stopping point. Discuss impressions up to that point; label anything beyond it.
Middle checkpoint Continue from the same save and report whether you are on time. Keep later discoveries in a separate spoiler-controlled area.
Final checkpoint Finish the announced portion before reading the closing discussion. Use explicit spoiler labels for conclusions and optional content.

This framework is a planning aid, not an official schedule for the game. Replace each stage with the organizer’s actual dates and stopping points before publishing it as an event rule.

Final pre-session checklist

  • The organizer and current event announcement are identified.
  • The start date, time zone, pace, and late-join policy are written down.
  • Your platform and edition match the event or have been approved.
  • The game launches, is patched, and is ready to create a new save.
  • You know the main-menu route to New Game on your build.
  • Cross progression is enabled only if you need it, and the destination has been tested through My Rewards.
  • You know the exact discussion channel and spoiler labels.
  • Your first public message states platform and edition without revealing story details.

Once those checks are complete, start your own game from New Game, stop at the group’s published boundary, and use the event’s discussion rules to share the experience safely.
