Under The Island is available digitally on both PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch, with a listed release date of February 17, 2026. Is Under The Island available on PS5 and Switch?
Yes. The PlayStation Store lists Under The Island for PS4 and PS5, and Nintendo lists a Nintendo Switch version. Both official listings give February 17, 2026 as the release date. The PlayStation product page groups the PS4 and PS5 digital editions together, so a buyer of that listed product is entitled to both digital versions rather than having to select a separate PS4 or PS5 purchase.

Nintendo’s listing identifies the game as a one-player title and supports three Switch play styles: handheld, tabletop, and TV mode. Nintendo Canada lists a 638 MB download and marks the game as supported on Nintendo Switch 2, with behavior described as consistent with Nintendo Switch. That 638 MB figure is a Canadian storefront specification, not a universal estimate for every region or a guarantee of the final installed size after updates.

Both versions describe the same broad kind of experience: a single-player, top-down adventure built around exploration, combat, puzzles, and the island’s story. Choose the console you already own and the play position you prefer rather than assuming one version has better performance or controls.
How to start Under The Island on PS5
1. Open the PlayStation Store
- Turn on the PS5 and sign in to the PlayStation Network account that will own or play the game.
- Open PlayStation Store from the PS5 home screen.
- Search for Under The Island. Check the title and platform information carefully because the product page lists both PS4 and PS5 digital editions.
If the result does not appear, verify the spelling, check that the console is online, and search again from the store’s games category. Store catalogs are regional, so a title visible in one country can have a different page or availability in another.
2. Decide whether to try the demo
The US PlayStation listing offers free PS4 and PS5 demos. Select the demo entry if it is shown for your account and region, then choose the download option. A demo can be a sensible first step when you are unsure whether a top-down adventure suits you. Do not assume that every regional PlayStation Store page will show the same demo entitlement; check the listing attached to your account.

3. Download the full game or demo
- On the game page, select the edition or demo you intend to use.
- Choose the store’s download or purchase option and complete the on-screen confirmation.
- Open the PS5 download queue to watch progress. Keep the console connected to the internet until the download and installation finish.
- Allow any system-software update requested by the store or console. The PlayStation listing specifically notes that PS5 play may require updated system software.
The store’s current price, discount, and availability are live commercial details. Read the price shown on your own regional page rather than relying on an older offer or a different country’s listing.
4. Launch and begin
- From the PS5 home screen or Game Library, select Under The Island after installation.
- Use the game’s own opening prompts to start a new session or continue an existing one.
- When you reach the first playable area, follow the prompts on screen and explore at the pace the game presents.
The official storefront descriptions do not publish an opening button map, a complete tutorial route, or a specific first objective. That means a reliable guide should not tell you to press a particular button or claim that the first task is a particular puzzle. If a control is unclear, pause and inspect the game’s settings or controls menu for the mapping used by your edition.
How to start Under The Island on Nintendo Switch
1. Open Nintendo eShop
- Turn on the Switch and select the user profile connected to the Nintendo Account that will download the game.
- Open Nintendo eShop from the HOME Menu.
- Search for Under The Island and open the official game page.

2. Check the demo listing
Nintendo UK marks a demo as available. If your local eShop page displays a demo option, select it and follow the download prompts. If you see only the full game, that does not prove the demo is unavailable worldwide; it means the offer is not shown on the regional account or page you are using. Check the same title page while signed in to the intended account.

3. Download and install
- Select the demo or full digital edition shown for your region.
- Confirm the download and leave the Switch connected to the internet while it installs.
- Make sure the console or inserted microSD card has enough free space. Nintendo Canada lists the download as 638 MB; treat that as a regional listing specification rather than a promise that every update will fit within exactly that amount.
- When the HOME Menu icon becomes ready, select it to launch the game.
4. Pick a Switch play mode
Nintendo lists all three standard modes:
- Handheld mode: Play with the console’s screen and attached controls.
- Tabletop mode: Prop the console up and play on its screen with detached compatible controls.
- TV mode: Dock the Switch and play on a television.
The listing describes single-system, one-player play. It does not establish local multiplayer, online multiplayer, or a second-player mode, so do not expect another player to join the adventure unless the in-game documentation explicitly says otherwise.
What happens when the adventure begins?
The official descriptions establish the setting and the broad activities, not a scripted walkthrough. Nia and Avocado investigate the island’s threatened sinking. Exploration takes place across interconnected regions, where you encounter enemies, solve environmental puzzles, and uncover information about what is happening to the island.
Exploration
Expect a top-down view and connected areas rather than a first-person presentation. Move through the regions, look for routes that continue beyond the current screen or area, and pay attention to environmental details that may relate to a puzzle. The listings do not state whether the game uses a minimap, quest journal, fast travel, or a particular inventory system, so learn those systems from the interface as they appear.

Combat
The store descriptions say that Nia fights unusual enemies. They do not provide a weapon list, difficulty breakdown, enemy health rules, or button layout. Start with the default prompts, watch how an enemy telegraphs an attack, and use the pause or settings screen if you need to review controls. Avoid treating any unverified control scheme from another game as applicable here.

Puzzles and story
Puzzles are part of the stated gameplay loop, and the investigation with Avocado supplies the narrative reason to explore. When progress stops, examine nearby objects and paths, reread any on-screen text, and check whether the game has added a new objective or interaction prompt. The official listings do not identify a fixed first puzzle or guarantee a particular sequence, so your opening may not match an online walkthrough written for a different build or region.
Languages and regional storefront differences
Language information differs between Nintendo’s regional listings. Nintendo UK lists Japanese, English, German, and Chinese. Nintendo Canada spells out Japanese, German, Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese, and American English. Those differences may reflect how each storefront labels the same supported languages, but they are still a reason to verify the page for your own country before buying.
PlayStation and Nintendo can also differ in how they label a demo, bundle editions, show age ratings, and display prices or discounts. A demo shown in the US PlayStation listing and the Nintendo UK listing should not be assumed to appear identically in every region. Use the account and storefront where you will actually play.

Nintendo Canada lists the game as supported on Nintendo Switch 2 with behavior consistent with Nintendo Switch. The same Canadian page lists a 638 MB download and TV, tabletop, and handheld modes. The listing does not state a separate Switch 2 enhancement, so there is no basis for promising higher resolution, faster loading, or a special performance mode.

On an original Switch or Switch 2, check free space before starting a download. If storage is tight, review the console’s data-management screen and make room without deleting save data you still need. The exact space required can change when a game receives an update, so leave some headroom beyond the storefront’s initial figure.

Which platform should you choose?
Choose PS5 when television play is your priority
The PS5 listing is the straightforward choice if your existing library and account are on PlayStation. The digital product combines PS4 and PS5 versions, and the US page shows separate free demos for those editions. You still need to verify the current listing for your region and install any required PS5 system update.
Choose Switch when portability matters
Switch is the more flexible physical setup because Nintendo explicitly supports handheld, tabletop, and TV modes. That makes it suitable if you want to continue a solo adventure away from the television. The Canadian listing also records Switch 2 support and a 638 MB download specification.
Use the demo to reduce uncertainty
Both storefronts show a demo in at least one documented region: the US PlayStation listing and Nintendo UK’s listing. If your local store offers it, play the demo first and decide whether the top-down view, exploration, combat, and puzzle rhythm suit you. A demo listing is not evidence that the full game has identical regional pricing, language labels, or entitlement rules.
A practical first-session checklist
- Confirm that your console account is set to the country whose store page you are reading.
- Check whether the demo is offered before purchasing the full edition.
- Verify available storage; Nintendo Canada’s listed download size is 638 MB for its Canadian page.
- On PS5, install any system-software update requested by the store or console.
- Choose handheld, tabletop, or TV mode on Switch according to how you want to play.
- Start with the game’s own prompts rather than a control map from another title.
- Use the settings or controls screen when an interaction is unclear.
- Expect a solo adventure focused on Nia, Avocado, exploration, enemies, puzzles, and the island’s threatened sinking.
What the official listings do not confirm
The available storefront information is enough to establish platform availability, release date, demos in specified regions, the broad premise, Switch modes, the Canadian download figure, and Switch 2 support. It does not establish exact opening objectives, every control binding, performance differences between PS5 and Switch, save-transfer behavior, or current merchant inventory. Treat those as questions to answer from the game’s own menus or your local store page rather than as guaranteed features.
