To allow Windows Sandbox to receive microphone input across managed PCs, deploy the device-scoped WindowsSandbox/AllowAudioInput Policy CSP through an Intune custom configuration profile. Set its data type to Integer, enter 1, assign the profile to the intended device group, and restart Windows Sandbox after the policy applies.
This standardizes the Sandbox audio-input policy; it does not guarantee a working, connected, or unmuted microphone, nor does it grant microphone access to every app inside the sandbox.
What the Intune policy controls
Microsoft’s WindowsSandbox Policy CSP defines AllowAudioInput as a device-scoped integer setting. Its exact OMA-URI is:

Microsoft documents 1 as the default: when the setting is unconfigured, Sandbox audio input is enabled. Applying 1 organization-wide therefore standardizes the allowed state; it does not, by itself, unlock a feature that is normally disabled.
Check Windows support before assigning the profile
The CSP lists Windows Pro, Enterprise, Education, and IoT Enterprise editions, including IoT Enterprise LTSC. Its listed minimum applicability starts at Windows 10 version 2004 build 19041.4950, Windows 10 version 20H2 build 19042.4950, and Windows 10 version 21H1 build 19043.4950. It also lists Windows 11 version 21H2 build 22000 and later. Confirm current edition and build requirements on Microsoft’s maintained CSP page before deployment; do not assume every Windows PC qualifies.

“Every PC” is an administrative target, not an automatic guarantee. It means the intended devices must be in the assigned group, enrolled in Intune, checking in, and running a supported Windows edition and build.

Use a Windows custom configuration profile when the setting is not available in your tenant’s Settings catalog. Microsoft’s custom settings guidance describes configuring Windows CSP settings through OMA-URI. The CSP must support the Add, Replace, and Get operations required for Intune; Microsoft documents those operations for this setting.

- In the Intune admin center, create a Windows custom configuration profile for the applicable Windows devices.

Windows Sandbox audio input. - Set the OMA-URI to
./Device/Vendor/MSFT/Policy/Config/WindowsSandbox/AllowAudioInput. - Set the data type to Integer and the value to
1. - Save the profile and assign it to the device group containing the intended PCs.
Roll out, verify, and restart Sandbox
Use a pilot device group first, then widen the assignment after validating policy delivery and the expected behavior. Intune sends assigned profile settings when devices check in, so assignment does not mean immediate delivery to every endpoint. Review the profile’s deployment status and investigate devices reporting errors or not receiving the setting. Microsoft explains policy assignment and delivery in its Intune policy assignment guidance.
After the setting changes, restart Windows Sandbox. Microsoft explicitly says, “You must restart Windows Sandbox for any changes to this policy setting to take effect.” On a pilot PC, confirm that the sandbox can receive audio input after it has been restarted.

Account for the security boundary
Allowing audio input exposes host audio input to the sandbox container. Microsoft cautions that there may be security implications. Set the policy only for devices and use cases where that exposure is acceptable; a broad device assignment should reflect an intentional organizational decision.

Do not confuse Sandbox audio with Windows app privacy
WindowsSandbox/AllowAudioInput controls whether Sandbox can receive host audio input. It is separate from Microsoft’s Privacy Policy CSP setting LetAppsAccessMicrophone, which governs microphone access by Windows apps and offers user-control, force-allow, and force-deny choices. The app privacy policy is not an alternative way to configure Sandbox audio input.

When a .wsb file is the better fit
A .wsb configuration file can control audio for a particular Sandbox launch. Microsoft’s Windows Sandbox configuration guidance documents the AudioInput setting with values Enable, Disable, or Default; the current default enables audio input.

For organization-wide management through Intune, use the device-scoped CSP profile. A launch file configures a Sandbox instance; it is not the same as centrally assigning a policy to managed devices.
