The safest way to avoid fake Adidas Sambas is to buy from Adidas, an official Adidas store, or an authorised retailer. If you already have a pair, treat every visual check as a clue rather than proof: verify the seller and transaction first, identify the exact Samba version and product code, compare the shoes with an official reference for that version, and keep evidence for Adidas, the seller, or your payment provider. Adidas does not publish a Samba-specific visual test that can establish authenticity from one logo, code, label, or construction detail.
What an authenticity check can—and cannot—tell you
A pair can look convincing and still have an uncertain origin. Conversely, a difference from a product photograph may reflect a different release, market, production change, or factory defect rather than a counterfeit. The practical goal is therefore not to award a visual “real” or “fake” score. It is to reduce purchase risk, document discrepancies, and escalate a credible concern through the right channel.
Adidas’s general authenticity guidance says its online shop and official retailers are the best way to ensure authenticity. It also warns that the chance of encountering fakes rises substantially when shoes come from flea markets, street vendors, or internet sellers. That is a statement about channel risk, not proof that every non-official listing is counterfeit. A marketplace listing can be genuine, but it demands more verification of the seller, provenance, and return protection.
No single observation is conclusive. A clean Trefoil, a matching serial or article code, a QR code, a genuine-looking box, or a low price cannot authenticate a pair on its own. Use several independent checks and contact Adidas when the evidence remains inconsistent.

1. Start with the seller and the transaction record
Check who is actually selling
Record the seller’s legal or trading name, address if shown, contact details, marketplace profile, and the date of the listing. Look for a clear description of the model, colorway, size, condition, and source. Be cautious when the account is newly created, refuses reasonable questions, uses only stock photographs, or cannot explain where the shoes came from. None of these signs proves a fake, but each reduces the confidence you should place in an unverified listing.
Ask whether the seller can provide an original receipt or other purchase document, while recognising that a receipt can also be falsified or belong to a different pair. Compare the document’s date, store, product description, size, and product code with the shoes and box. If a seller claims the pair came from an official store, ask for information that can be checked without exposing unnecessary personal data.
Assess the deal without treating price as a test
A very low price may indicate counterfeit risk, but price alone is not an authentication method. Legitimate clearance, used condition, a regional release, or a damaged box can all lower a price. Conversely, counterfeiters can charge close to retail. Use price as a reason to ask more questions, not as a pass-or-fail rule.
Save the listing before it changes
Download or screenshot the complete listing before paying and again when the parcel arrives. Include the URL, seller name, photographs, description, stated product code, price, shipping terms, return policy, and all messages. Preserve the payment confirmation, tracking information, packaging labels, and any dispute deadlines. Adidas Spain’s suspected-counterfeit guidance specifically asks for the website address for an online purchase, so preserving the original page can materially improve a report.
2. Identify the exact Samba before comparing details
“Samba” is a family name, not one unchanging specification. A Samba OG, Samba Vegan, Samba Classic, collaboration, or older release can differ in materials, branding, sole construction, labels, packaging, and colour naming. Comparing any of those versions with a current Samba OG photograph can create false alarms.

Build an identity record
- Read the product code. Photograph the article or product code on both shoe labels and the box label. Record every character, including letters, numbers, and hyphens.
- Write down the claimed model and colourway. Capture the seller’s wording and the colour names exactly as displayed.
- Match size and market. Note the size system, country or region, and whether the listing is for a new, used, or sample pair.
- Find the official reference for that exact code. Use Adidas’s product page, store record, or other official documentation for the same model and release where available.
- Compare like with like. Do not use a different code, collaboration, season, or colourway as the control pair.
One current United States Adidas product page for “SAMBA OG SHOES” lists product code IH9055, a leather upper, a Trefoil logo, serrated 3-Stripes, and a rubber outsole. It identifies the colour as Crystal White / Core White / Silver Metallic. Those details are a reference for that particular US listing, not a universal template for every Samba. Product pages, colours, and availability can change by market and date.

3. Inspect the pair systematically
Work in bright, neutral light and photograph both shoes from the same angles. Inspect the left and right shoes separately, then compare them with each other. A mismatch between the pair can be more informative than a minor difference from an online photograph, but it still requires professional confirmation.

Check the toe profile, vamp length, collar height, heel shape, side-panel proportions, and how the upper meets the sole. Compare the silhouette with official images of the exact model and colourway. Look for an accumulation of differences rather than one bend or crease; wear, storage, and camera perspective can alter shape.
Examine materials and finish
Identify the materials stated for the exact release and compare texture, grain, colour, sheen, and edge finishing. For the IH9055 Samba OG reference, Adidas lists a leather upper, but that statement does not establish the material for other Samba versions. Uneven dye, an unexpected coating, or a texture inconsistent with the relevant official specification is a reason to pause. It is not, by itself, proof of a counterfeit.
Inspect the branding and lettering
Compare the Trefoil, “Samba” wordmark, 3-Stripes, tongue branding, heel branding, and any insole marks with the exact official reference. Check placement, proportions, spacing, edge sharpness, and whether the same design appears on both shoes. Poorly formed letters, blurred printing, incorrect spacing, or a logo in the wrong location are useful warning signs when they conflict with the correct model reference.

Do not assume that every Samba must display the same logo arrangement. Releases and collaborations can intentionally change branding. Record the specific discrepancy and the reference image or specification you used.

Follow the stitching around the toe, side panels, tongue, collar, and heel. Look for skipped stitches, loose threads, visibly uneven spacing, adhesive squeezed onto finished surfaces, or panels that do not align symmetrically. Compare both shoes: a small imperfection may be a factory defect, while repeated construction errors across the pair can justify a deeper inquiry. Factory quality variation means stitching cannot deliver a standalone verdict.
Review the outsole and heel details
Compare tread layout, rubber colour, edge shape, heel patch, and the way the outsole meets the upper. The IH9055 reference identifies a rubber outsole, but it does not make every rubber-tread variation authentic or every different-looking sole fake. Use the code-specific product imagery and account for wear on used shoes.
Read every label on the shoes and box
Photograph the size and production labels inside both shoes, the box label, hangtags, and any attached stickers. Check whether the model code, size, colour description, and country or factory information are internally consistent. A code that appears on a label is not conclusive: counterfeiters can copy real codes, and legitimate pairs can have label or packaging errors. A mismatch between the two shoe labels, between the shoes and box, or between the labels and the listing is a reason to stop and investigate.
Treat QR codes and serial numbers as clues only
The official Adidas material considered here does not publish a Samba-specific consumer procedure for verifying a code or QR scan. A scan that opens an Adidas page does not prove that the physical shoe is the item associated with that code, and a failed scan may reflect a technical or regional issue. Do not present either result as authentication.

4. Compare competing listings and pairs on the same axes
When deciding between listings, score the evidence in separate categories instead of letting one attractive photograph dominate your judgment.

5. Preserve evidence before you return, clean, or alter anything
Keep the shoes in the condition received. Do not remove labels, discard the box, apply cleaning products, or send the pair back before photographing the evidence and understanding the seller’s return process. Photograph each shoe, all labels, the outsole, packaging, shipping label, receipt, and any suspected defect. Keep original files with their timestamps where possible.
Save the listing URL and screenshots, seller correspondence, payment record, order number, tracking information, and the date the parcel arrived. Write a short chronology while events are fresh: when you ordered, what the listing promised, what arrived, and which details differ. This record can support a seller complaint, a payment-provider dispute, or an Adidas inquiry.

Adidas Spain’s suspected-counterfeit guidance directs consumers to contact customer service and provide enough information for the case to be assessed. Prepare the following before contacting support:

- A copy of the receipt or other proof of purchase.
- Any additional documents supplied with the shoes.
- The website address when the purchase was made online.
- The place of purchase and the seller’s identity and address.
Describe observations neutrally: state the exact code, the official reference used, and the specific differences you documented. Avoid claiming certainty from one cue. Include the market and date of purchase because product pages and support processes can vary by country.

Adidas states that counterfeit products do not come from Adidas and that it cannot accept counterfeit products for exchange or refund. Its Spanish guidance says it may cooperate with authorities investigating authenticity, but it does not promise a particular investigation result or response time. Keep the pair and documents available until the case and any payment dispute are resolved.
7. What to do when a purchase looks suspicious
Before paying
- Ask for the exact model code, detailed photographs, seller identity, and proof of purchase.
- Compare the information with an official reference for that code.
- Use a payment method and platform with a documented dispute process.
- Walk away if the seller will not answer basic questions or pressures you to pay immediately.
After delivery
- Photograph the unopened parcel, packaging, labels, and both shoes.
- Compare the delivered pair with the saved listing and exact official reference.
- Contact the seller promptly through the platform’s recorded channel and state the discrepancy.
- Contact your payment provider within its stated deadline if the seller does not resolve the issue.
- Send Adidas the requested evidence and follow its instructions for the pair.
If the seller asks you to remove evidence
Do not discard labels, alter the shoes, or move the conversation off the platform until you have saved the record. A seller’s request to bypass the platform does not establish that the shoes are fake, but it can reduce your ability to prove what was sold and when.
Common authentication mistakes
- Using one current Samba OG as the template for every Samba. Versions, releases, colours, and markets differ.
- Calling a low price proof of a fake. Price is a risk signal, not a test.
- Trusting a copied product code. Codes can be reproduced and must agree with the physical pair and official reference.
- Treating a QR scan as a guarantee. The official guidance reviewed here does not provide a Samba-specific code-verification protocol.
