Vanilla Enshrouded does not document a command that creates an arbitrary item in a player’s inventory. Keen Games’ dedicated-server tools provide role permissions and gameplay multipliers, not a supported /spawn, /give, or item-ID injection command. If you need more materials, configure the server’s custom resource settings so normal sources produce larger stacks. If you need one named item immediately, the official server documentation does not provide a method for doing that.
Does Enshrouded have a server give-item or spawn command?
No documented vanilla command lets an administrator type an item name and quantity into chat or a server console. Keen Games’ server documentation does not publish syntax such as /spawn <item> <quantity>, /give, or a command based on internal item IDs.

The documented Admin preset controls access and moderation: it allows base changes, chests and other containers, and kicking or banning players. Those permissions do not constitute proof of an inventory-injection feature.
Item databases can still be useful for checking names, recipes, or where a resource normally comes from. The Official Enshrouded Wiki and Enshrouded.tools are reference databases; Enshrouded.tools identifies itself as unofficial. Neither database is, by itself, a supported server-injection mechanism.

What the official dedicated server actually provides
A Steam Tools installation
Keen Games’ installation guidance places the dedicated-server executable in Steam’s Tools section. Install Enshrouded Dedicated Server there, then start the executable once. That first launch creates enshrouded_server.json, the file used to configure the dedicated server. The cited installation guidance states that Windows is supported at the time of publication.
The JSON file is therefore the starting point for supported administration. It is not a command console and does not expose a documented field for inserting an arbitrary named object into a player inventory.

User groups and passwords
Player permissions are handled through user groups in enshrouded_server.json. Each group can have a password, allowing the server owner to assign a role when players connect. Use a unique, strong password for any group with administrative powers and do not distribute the Admin password to ordinary players.

These groups govern what a player may do in the world. They do not add a documented item-spawn command to chat, and changing a player from Friend to Admin should not be presented as a way to manufacture resources.

How to obtain more materials without spawning a named item
Use the custom resource-stack setting
The supported alternative for a resource shortage is to increase the amount produced by ordinary sources. Keen Games documents the resourceDropStackAmountFactor setting for scaling material stack amounts from chests, defeated enemies, and similar sources.
To use it, set gameSettingsPreset to Custom, then adjust resourceDropStackAmountFactor within the range documented by Keen Games. The setting changes the yield of normal gameplay; it does not create a specified item, bypass a recipe, or place an object directly into a character’s inventory.

The same gameplay-settings documentation lists controls for experience, enemies, durability, hunger, weather, and time. Those fields can change progression or difficulty, but none is documented as an item-generation command. Keep the resource multiplier narrowly focused if your goal is simply to gather more materials rather than redesign the entire server.
Step-by-step: configure a supported material boost
- Install the dedicated server. In Steam, open Tools, install Enshrouded Dedicated Server, and launch its executable once.
- Locate the generated configuration. Confirm that the first launch created
enshrouded_server.json. If it was not created, the server process may not have completed its initial start; see the troubleshooting section below. - Stop the server completely. Do not edit the JSON while the server is running. A live process can overwrite your changes or leave a partially written file.
- Back up both configuration and saves. Make a copy of
enshrouded_server.jsonand your save data before changing gameplay values. Keep the backup outside the active server folder and label it with the date and the previous settings. - Review user groups. Create or update the groups in the JSON and assign strong passwords. Give only trusted operators the documented Admin preset; use Friend, Guest, or Visitor when those permissions are sufficient.
- Enable custom gameplay settings. Set
gameSettingsPresettoCustom. A non-custom preset may prevent individual custom values from taking effect. - Adjust the resource factor. Change
resourceDropStackAmountFactorto a value inside Keen Games’ documented range. Make one controlled change at a time so you can identify which setting produced a problem. - Save valid JSON. Preserve quotation marks, commas, braces, and the exact capitalization of each field. A syntax error can stop the server from loading the file.
- Restart and test in game. Start the server, connect with a test account, and check both permissions and a normal resource source such as a chest or defeated enemy. Confirm that the resulting stack behavior matches your intention.
- Roll back if necessary. Stop the server and restore the dated backup if it fails to start, permissions are too broad, or yields become excessive. Restart and verify the restored state before allowing players back in.
This procedure increases the number of materials produced through normal play. It does not turn an item name or an item ID into a direct grant.

After an Enshrouded update, the compatibility question becomes more important for any unofficial method. A tool that edits a local save may not affect a dedicated-server save at all, and a client-side modification may create an unfair or unstable multiplayer state. Treat claims of a universal “admin spawn” command as unverified unless the current Keen Games documentation explicitly publishes the syntax.

Changing settings does not remove the server’s hardware and networking requirements. Keen Games’ Enshrouded Support figures from 2025 list the following operational values:

Those figures are useful when planning a server and deciding how cautiously to test configuration edits. The five-minute save cycle is not a substitute for a manual backup before changing JSON or experimenting with unofficial software.
Troubleshooting common administration problems
The JSON file does not exist
- Confirm that the dedicated-server executable was installed from Steam’s Tools section.
- Launch it once and allow the initial process to finish before stopping it.
- Search the server’s installation and working folders for
enshrouded_server.json. - If the file still is not created, check whether Windows security software blocked the executable or whether the process lacks permission to write to its folder.
Permission changes do not take effect
- Stop the server before editing the file, then restart it after saving.
- Check that the player is authenticating with the intended group password.
- Verify the group name and permission preset rather than assuming every password maps to Admin.
- Test with a controlled account; do not hand out the Admin password simply to diagnose a Friend or Guest configuration.
Resource yields remain unchanged
- Confirm that
gameSettingsPresetis set toCustom. - Check the spelling and capitalization of
resourceDropStackAmountFactor. - Make sure the edited file belongs to the server instance that players are actually joining.
- Restart the server and test a chest or defeated enemy after the restart; the setting affects normal sources, not an instant inventory grant.
- If the server fails to start after editing, restore the last valid JSON backup and reapply one change at a time.
A player asks for an item ID
An ID from a community database can help identify a recipe or source, but it does not provide command syntax. Explain that the vanilla server has no documented item-ID injection command and use the resource multiplier only when the goal is to increase ordinary material collection.
Safe administration on a shared server
- Separate roles by need. Admin is for trusted operators; Friend, Guest, and Visitor reduce unnecessary access.
- Protect passwords. Store them privately, change them when an administrator leaves, and never post them in a public chat.
- Back up before changes. Preserve both the JSON configuration and save data before modifying gameplay settings.
- Document each change. Record the date, field, old value, and new value so a failed experiment can be reversed.
- Test privately first. Confirm yields and permissions with a test account before changing a server used by a larger group.
- Recheck after updates. Server behavior, JSON fields, and third-party compatibility can change with game updates; consult the current Keen Games support pages before relying on executable commands or tools.
Bottom line for item spawning
If “spawn an item” means placing a particular named object directly into a player’s inventory, vanilla Enshrouded has no documented server command for it. The supported path is to install the dedicated server, configure user groups in enshrouded_server.json, and use resourceDropStackAmountFactor under a Custom gameplay preset when you want more materials from normal sources. Admin status grants permissions, not a documented give-item cheat. Any mod, save editor, or command claimed to bypass that limitation needs separate, version-specific verification before it is used on a live multiplayer world.
