Clive Barker’s Hellraiser: Revival has five mandatory Genesis Configuration locks: Sunny’s pillar, the Hand statue, the Head statue, the Tongue statue and the Factory shrine. Every lock uses the same two-face process: choose the configuration, rotate it until the complete shape matches the illuminated slot, confirm that face, then solve the opposite face.
The shape names are only visual shorthand. When a description feels ambiguous, compare the box directly with the glowing relief and use the on-screen control prompts for your platform or accessibility settings.
The five-lock sequence and locations correspond with the GamesRadar+ guide published October 8, 2026, while GameSpew’s walkthrough from the same date confirms the statue-gate progression. Their screenshots are useful whenever a three-dimensional outline is difficult to identify from words alone.

A Genesis Configuration lock has two independent faces. You do not solve both sides at once. Work through one face, confirm it, and the game presents the second face.

- Choose the overall configuration. Cycle through the available forms until the outline resembles the cut-out in the lock.
- Rotate the selected form. Turn the assembly so its point, openings and side pieces line up with the illuminated relief.
- Confirm the face. Accept the alignment only after the entire silhouette fits, not merely one corner.
- Repeat on the reverse face. The second side can use a completely different arrangement.
One guide lists L1 and R1 for cycling configurations and the analogue stick for rotation. Those buttons can change with platform, control scheme or accessibility settings, so treat the prompts shown on your screen as authoritative. If a control does not respond, check the displayed mapping rather than assuming the puzzle is broken.
How to judge a correct alignment
- Match the whole outline, including the small point or protruding side pieces.
- Check the direction of every opening. A shape can look close while a gap is on the wrong side.
- Use the glowing relief as the final reference. Verbal descriptions such as “bridge” or “petal” are approximations of a three-dimensional silhouette.
- Do not move on after matching only the first face; each lock requires confirmation on both faces.
Read the relief before changing anything
When you first interact with a lock, pause and identify the features that cannot be mistaken for one another. A diamond-turned square has one corner pointing up and another pointing down; an upright square has a flat top and bottom. The side-gap border is identified by its missing sections and central star opening, while the Tongue pattern is made of four separated corner pieces. On the Hand lock, the flat bottoms and curved tops of the two rounded forms provide the orientation clue.
It helps to separate shape selection from rotation mentally. If every component is the right type but the lock rejects the attempt, leave the configuration selected and rotate it through the remaining positions. Conversely, if rotating never produces a matching silhouette, return to the configuration list and choose a different overall form. This avoids repeatedly spinning an incorrect shape.

Those descriptions make the solution easier to remember, but the lighted cut-out determines the accepted orientation.
Where the five required locks occur
The puzzles appear in story order and are tied to specific objectives or statue pieces. The Hand and Head gates cannot be used until you have the corresponding statue piece.

This is a progression checklist as much as a puzzle list. If a gate seems inert, the likely issue is that its statue component has not been returned yet, not that the configuration is wrong. The Hand route leads to the Head area, and the well puzzle there precedes the Tongue piece.
Sunny’s pillar solution
Find the pillar
Sunny’s pillar is encountered during the “Free Sunny’s Soul” objective, after you navigate the labyrinth ruins. If the objective is active and you are examining a pillar with a Genesis Configuration relief, this is the first solution below.
Face one: diamond-turned square
Select the square configuration, then rotate it until the square sits on a corner like a diamond. The orientation matters: a normal upright square is not the same alignment.
- Cycle to the square-shaped form.
- Rotate it a quarter-turn so one corner points upward.
- Compare all four corners with the relief and confirm when the complete diamond outline fits.
Face two: inward-facing bridge structures
The second face consists of two parallel, bridge-like structures. Place one on the left and one on the right, with the legs of both structures pointing inward toward the centre.

- Change from the first face’s square form to the two-bridge configuration.
- Rotate the pair until the left and right structures occupy their corresponding sides.
- Verify that both sets of legs point toward the middle, then confirm.
If the configuration looks mirrored, do not compensate by changing the shape. Keep the two-bridge form and rotate it until the legs point inward; the side placement is part of the solution.
Hand statue solution
Unlock the gate first
This lock becomes available after you obtain the Hand statue piece from Bruno’s house. Return the Hand to its matching gate; the Genesis Configuration is the alignment step at that gate. Without the piece, the correct shape will not substitute for the missing progression item.

The first face uses two boulder-like forms. Each has a flat bottom and a curved top. They sit parallel, one above the other.
- Cycle until the two rounded, flat-bottomed forms appear.
- Rotate the assembly so one boulder is above the other, with both flat bottoms and curved tops oriented consistently.
- Check that the pair remains parallel rather than angled, then confirm.
Face two: the same pair turned sideways
The second face is the same basic two-form pattern rotated 90 degrees. One rounded form belongs on the left and the other on the right.
- Keep the matching two-boulder configuration.
- Rotate it a quarter-turn from the stacked arrangement.
- Align the forms side by side, left and right, and confirm only when their curved and flat edges match the relief.
The repeated shape is intentional. If you have the right forms but they appear one above the other on the second face, rotate the assembly rather than selecting a new configuration.
Head statue solution
Reach the Head gate
The Hand statue opens the area containing the Head statue piece. Once you collect the Head, return it to its matching gate and interact with the Genesis Configuration relief there.

Face one: upright square
The first face is a straightforward upright square. Unlike Sunny’s pillar, it is not turned onto a corner.
- Select the square configuration.
- Leave it upright, with its sides horizontal and vertical in the relief.
- Confirm after checking that all four sides sit inside the matching outline.
Face two: side-gap border with a central star opening
The second face resembles a border or frame. It has gaps on two sides and a star-shaped opening in the middle. Rotate the pattern so the gaps are on the left and right.
- Cycle to the border-like configuration with the central star opening.
- Rotate until the two missing sections face left and right rather than top and bottom.
- Use the star-shaped centre and both side gaps to verify orientation, then confirm.
The side gaps are the quickest way to distinguish the correct rotation. A border with the gaps at the top and bottom is the same pattern in the wrong orientation.

Tongue statue solution
Enter after the well puzzle
The Tongue statue piece becomes available after the well puzzle in the Head statue area. Once you have it, use the corresponding gate and solve both Genesis Configuration faces.
Face one: square turned like a diamond
This face repeats the diamond orientation used at Sunny’s pillar: select the square form and rotate it so a corner points upward.
- Choose the square configuration.
- Turn it onto one corner, producing a diamond rather than an upright square.
- Match the complete outline to the glowing relief and confirm.
Face two: four petal-like corner blocks
The second face is made from four separate corner blocks, each described as petal-like. The blocks occupy the four corners around the centre rather than forming one continuous square.
- Cycle to the four-block configuration.
- Rotate until each petal-like block sits in its corresponding corner.
- Check all four corners before confirming; matching only two adjacent blocks can make an incorrect rotation appear plausible.
Do not confuse this with the Head statue’s border pattern. The Tongue face has four distinct corner pieces and no continuous frame around the outside.
Factory shrine solution
Locate the shrine
The final named lock is at the shrine inside the factory, beside the elevator leading to Marlowe and Bruno. It reuses two patterns from earlier puzzles, so recognising those repeats is faster than treating it as a new design.
Face one: the diamond-turned square
The first face is the same square-on-a-corner arrangement used for Sunny’s pillar and the first face of the Tongue statue.
- Select the square configuration.
- Rotate it into the diamond orientation.
- Confirm once the four corners line up with the shrine relief.
Face two: side-gap border
The second face repeats the Head statue’s border pattern: a frame-like configuration with a star-shaped opening in the centre. Its two gaps must be on the left and right.
- Choose the border configuration with the central star opening.
- Rotate it so the gaps face sideways.
- Check that the star opening and both side gaps align, then confirm.
If you remember the Head statue solution, this face should require no new shape identification. The difference is the shrine location and the story context, not the required pattern.

Fastest way to compare similar locks
There are three useful repetitions. The diamond square appears first at Sunny’s pillar, then at the Tongue gate, and again at the Factory shrine. The border with a star-shaped centre and side gaps appears at the Head gate and the Factory shrine. The Hand puzzle is the only one that uses the paired rounded forms on both faces, with the second face simply turned sideways.

That repetition means you can use an earlier solved face as a visual memory aid, but do not assume every square has the same orientation. The Head statue’s first face is upright, while the recurring square pattern at Sunny’s pillar, the Tongue statue and the Factory shrine is turned onto a corner.
Troubleshooting a lock that will not solve
The shape is correct but the lock rejects it
You probably have the right configuration in the wrong orientation. Keep the selected shape and rotate it through its possible positions. Check the smallest details: a single point, an opening, or the direction of a leg can determine whether the fit is accepted.
The second face looks unrelated
That is expected. Each Genesis Configuration has two separate faces, and the second can use another pattern entirely. Confirm the first face, then begin shape selection again for the reverse face.
The Hand or Head gate is inactive
Verify the progression item. The Hand gate requires the Hand statue piece from Bruno’s house. The Head gate requires the Head statue piece obtained in the area opened by the Hand. The configuration cannot replace either statue.

The controls do not match a guide
Button labels differ by platform and settings. Use the prompts displayed while interacting with the box. One published control description uses L1/R1 to cycle forms and stick input to rotate, but that mapping is not universal.
A verbal description is hard to visualise
Use the illuminated relief as the primary source of truth and compare the full silhouette, not the name assigned to it. Reference screenshots in the published walkthroughs can help when a three-dimensional shape is difficult to express in words.
The game seems to ignore my confirmation
Make sure the entire silhouette is aligned before accepting. A nearly correct corner or centre opening is not enough. After confirming, allow the lock’s animation or state change to finish; pressing rotation inputs immediately can make it appear as if the confirmation failed.

- At the labyrinth ruins, start “Free Sunny’s Soul” and solve Sunny’s pillar: diamond-turned square, then inward-facing bridge structures.
- Collect the Hand statue piece from Bruno’s house, return it to the Hand gate, and solve the stacked boulders followed by the same pair turned 90 degrees.
- Use the Hand-gate route to reach the Head statue piece, return it to the Head gate, and solve the upright square followed by the side-gap star border.
- Complete the well puzzle in the Head statue area, obtain the Tongue statue piece, and solve the diamond-turned square followed by the four corner blocks.
- At the factory shrine by the elevator to Marlowe and Bruno, solve the diamond-turned square followed by the side-gap star border.
Once a face is confirmed, let the animation or state change complete before attempting the next input. If the lock appears unchanged, interact again and check whether the game is waiting for the opposite face rather than another rotation.

Can I solve a lock by choosing the right shape without rotating it?
No. You must select the overall configuration and then rotate it until the complete silhouette matches the illuminated relief. The upright and diamond orientations of a square are different solutions.
What do I do if the Hand or Head statue gate does not activate?
Check that you have the matching statue piece. The Hand gate requires the Hand from Bruno’s house, and the Head gate requires the Head obtained in the area opened by the Hand.
Are L1 and R1 always the buttons for changing configurations?
