To show notifications on a Samsung Galaxy lock screen, open Settings > Notifications and adjust the lock-screen notification or content-visibility setting. On One UI 8, choose Show always to display notification details while locked, or Hide when locked to conceal the details. You can also choose visibility for individual apps.
Show or hide notification previews on One UI 8
- Open Settings and tap Notifications.
- Tap Hide content while locked.
- Choose Show always to see notification content on the lock screen, or Hide when locked to keep the details concealed while the phone is locked. Samsung’s One UI 8 instructions say: “Select Show or hide content when locked, then choose Show always or Hide when locked.” Samsung Support
Showing a notification and showing its full content are separate choices. If you want to know that an app sent an alert but do not want message or email previews exposed, hide content while locked.
Set lock-screen content visibility for one app
- Go to Settings > Notifications > App notifications.
- Select the app you want to change.
- Tap Show or hide content when locked, then choose the visibility option you want.
This lets you use different preview rules for different apps instead of applying one content-visibility choice to all notifications. Samsung’s One UI 8 instructions document both global and per-app controls.
Find the setting on One UI 7 or another version
On One UI 7, Samsung’s documented route is Settings > Notifications > Lock Screen Notifications. From there, you can turn lock-screen notifications on and choose how they appear, including whether content is hidden or shown. Samsung also documents a route on some current Galaxy devices as Settings > Notifications > Lock screen, where you can select a notification display type. Labels and available controls can differ by device and software version, so if a path does not match your phone, look under Settings > Notifications for a lock-screen or content-visibility option. Choose a setting that fits your privacy needs
- Show content: Convenient when you want to read details without unlocking, but previews may be visible to someone looking at your locked phone.
- Hide content while locked: Keeps details concealed until you unlock the phone while still allowing lock-screen notifications to appear, depending on your display settings.
- Set visibility by app: Useful when previews are acceptable for some apps but not others; it gives you more control than one global rule.
If you mean Now Bar or live information
For Samsung’s Now Bar or supported live information rather than ordinary app alerts, first make sure lock-screen notifications are enabled. Samsung also directs users to check the supported app’s Allow notifications, Lock screen, and Live notifications settings.
