To make an Android phone feel faster without buying a new one, reduce its animation scales in Developer options. Try 0.5x: affected animations play in half their configured time, so menus and transitions spend less time moving on screen. This changes how the interface feels; it does not make the phone’s processor, network, or app calculations faster.
What changing animation speed actually does
Android has separate controls for window animations, activity transitions, and Animator-based animations. They change the timing of supported interface motion, not the work an app must do behind that motion. Android Developers explains that a lower window or transition scale plays faster, while the Animator duration scale affects the start delay and duration of Animator-based animations.
At 0.5x, affected duration-based animations take half their configured duration. That can make an interface feel more immediate because you wait less for motion to finish, but it does not show that apps launch, downloads complete, or calculations finish sooner. The documentation does not establish that every app or animation responds identically.
Android Developers describes property animations as changes to object properties over a specified duration; timing and interpolation shape how that motion appears. Read Android’s Property Animation Overview.

Which animation scales should you change?

Android Developers identifies Window animation scale and Transition animation scale under Drawing options in Developer options. The exact menu path and labels can differ by manufacturer, model, and Android build; Android’s guide does not establish one universal route. See Android’s Developer Options guide.
How to try 0.5x on your Android phone
- Open Developer options. If it is available in Settings, open it. The location of Developer options varies by device; Android’s guide describes the controls but does not provide a universal Settings path for every manufacturer.
- Find the animation controls. Look under Drawing for Window animation scale and Transition animation scale. Animator duration scale may also be listed among the animation controls.
- Set the scales you want to change to 0.5x. Change only these animation settings, not unrelated Developer options.
- Use the phone normally and judge the motion. If transitions feel uncomfortably abrupt, return the changed scales to 1x.
Choose between 1x, 0.5x, and 0x

These are configuration behaviors, not measured performance results. Android Developers says setting Animator duration scale to 0.0 causes animations to end immediately; its API reference also defines the separate window and transition scales. What this tweak cannot establish
- It does not increase CPU or internet speed, and it does not prove that apps load or calculate faster.
- It does not establish a battery saving or a universally better accessibility experience.
- It does not mean every app uses the same animation framework or responds identically to every scale.
Display refresh behavior is a separate issue: Android says adaptive refresh rate depends on device support and system and app signals. Changing animation scales is not evidence of faster computation or a higher refresh rate. Learn about Android adaptive refresh rate.
