The easiest way to share depends on what you are sending. For a quick nearby transfer, use Quick Share with AirDrop if your Android model supports it. If it does not, Android’s Quick Share QR code lets an iPhone download files. For photo sets people should browse later or add to, use a shared album; for an iPhone sender’s one-time photo link, use iCloud Links. Links, contacts, and app-specific content are best shared from the app that contains them.
Choose a method based on what you’re sharing

Send a nearby file with Quick Share and AirDrop
Quick Share interoperates with AirDrop on selected Android devices, not every Android phone. Google’s compatibility list and instructions cover supported models and can change as availability rolls out. Google says availability may vary by device, carrier, region, and rollout, so check the current list rather than relying on the phone brand alone.
Android to iPhone
- On the iPhone, open Settings > General > AirDrop and set visibility to Everyone for 10 Minutes.
- On Android, select the files or other supported content, tap Share, then choose Quick Share.
- Select the iPhone when it appears. The iPhone user must accept the transfer.
iPhone to Android
- On Android, open Quick Share and turn on its receive mode so the phone can be discovered.
- On iPhone, select the content, tap the share icon, choose AirDrop, then select the Android device.
- Accept the transfer on Android if prompted.
On some Samsung phones, enable Share with Apple devices in Quick Share settings. The precise menu can vary by model and software version.

QR sharing provides a fallback for an iPhone, iPad, or Mac when the Android phone is not on the direct-compatibility list. Unlike the nearby direct flow, this method uploads the selected files to Google’s servers and lets the recipient download them from a webpage. Google says the files are end-to-end encrypted and do not use the sender’s personal Google Drive storage.

- On Android, select the files and open Quick Share.
- Tap Use QR code to display a code.
- On the receiving Apple device, scan the code with its camera, open the Quick Share webpage, and download the files.
Google’s Quick Share QR instructions state that both devices need internet access. The files remain available for download for 24 hours; the documented limits are 10 GB per 24 hours, 1,000 files per sharing session, and up to 20 iPhone, iPad, or Mac receivers at a time. Mobile data charges may apply without Wi-Fi. The recipient cannot pass the download link on to someone else, so each intended recipient should scan the code.
Share a photo set or ongoing album with Google Photos
Google Photos works on iOS and Android and can share photos, videos, albums, and highlight videos with people who do not use the app. Choose an album when people should browse a collection later or contribute their own photos; Google’s sharing instructions explain how to share an album or link. The available features can depend on how the album is shared.

Treat an “anyone with the link” album as bearer access: anyone who receives the link may be able to view it while link sharing remains enabled. Removing a named person does not block someone else who still has the original link. To end that access path, turn off link sharing or reset the link using the album’s sharing controls. Google also documents options to remove people and manage contributions or comments.

For a quick link instead of a collaborative album, an iPhone user can select photos or videos in Photos, enable iCloud Link, and send the resulting URL. Apple says recipients can view or download the items for 30 days. The Apple Photos sharing guide describes the available controls.

Before sending, the sender can turn off location data and choose to preserve the current format or use a more compatible format, which may convert files to JPEG or MOV. Apple also documents an All Photos Data option for sharing original files with edit history and metadata through certain sharing methods. An iCloud Link is temporary, not a permanent archive.

For a website address or contact card, use the share action in the browser, contacts app, or other app that holds the item, then send it through a messaging service or email both people use. This is a practical route, not a guarantee that every app’s content or format will work identically across Android and iOS.

If recipients need to return to a document or file later, use a cloud service’s access-controlled link and check its permissions before sending. The specific controls depend on the service; do not assume that a link is limited to its intended recipient unless you have verified the sharing settings.

Check access and format before you send
- Pick direct transfer for proximity: Quick Share and AirDrop are suited to a one-off handoff when the Android model is supported and both phones are nearby.
- Pick QR sharing for compatibility: It avoids the direct-device compatibility requirement but needs internet and gives the recipient a time-limited download.
- Pick an album for ongoing access: A shared photo collection is more useful than a one-time transfer when people need to revisit or add pictures; review its link settings.
- Pick an iCloud Link for a temporary iPhone photo share: Check location and format options before creating the link.
- Check the result for important files: The official instructions do not establish preservation behavior for every file type or receiving app. Confirm that the recipient can open the item as intended.
