To share a file with MEGA, select it and use the share-link action; to collaborate on a folder, use the separate folder-sharing action. A share link can let anyone who has it view and download your data, so treat the link—and any required decryption key—as sensitive access information.
Choose between a share link and folder collaboration

How to create and send a MEGA share link

In the MEGA app or web client, select the file or folder you want to share and choose the share-link action. The exact screen layout and wording can vary; confirm the control in your current client.

Review the link options shown for your account. The interface language includes password protection and a link expiry date, but availability for a particular account or plan is not established here.

Copy the link. If MEGA offers the option, decide whether to send the decryption key separately. Keep both the link and key private, especially if the files are sensitive; use separate communication channels when that is appropriate for your risk.

Tell recipients that the link can grant viewing and downloading access. MEGA’s interface warning reads: “Anyone with this link can view and download your data.”

Review the permission choices displayed in your account. The client localization includes “Read and write,” but does not establish a complete permission matrix or the precise current effects of every option.

Grant only the access collaborators need, then follow the current client prompts to complete the share.

Control or revoke access to a link
If the controls are available in your account, an expiry date can limit how long a link remains usable, and “Remove link” can revoke that link. Removing access to the link cannot retrieve copies a recipient has already downloaded. Availability of password and expiry controls may depend on account eligibility; verify what your current account offers rather than assuming a particular plan includes them. Use MEGAcmd if you prefer a command line
MEGAcmd offers command-line import and export operations. Its user guide includes an example that uploads a file and exports a link set to expire after 10 minutes.
