Google Maps currently documents how to reopen an Ask Maps conversation, but not a general way to send the entire chat transcript to someone else. The dependable method is to reopen the conversation, save the useful recommendations to a clearly named Maps list, and share that list. If you only need to send a few locations from Android, you can share selected saved places directly.
This keeps the places accessible even when the chat itself is hard to revisit, and it lets you control whether recipients can only view the list or can also edit it.
What you can share from Ask Maps
Ask Maps conversations and Google Maps saved lists are separate. History lets you find an earlier conversation; a list is the object Google documents for sharing places with other people. A list link does not promise to include the Ask Maps questions, answers, or transcript.

How do I find an old Ask Maps chat?
On Android
- Open the Google Maps app.
- Tap Ask Maps below the search bar.
- Open History.
- Tap the conversation you want to reopen.
History loads the previous thread so you can read it and use its recommendations again. It is a retrieval feature, not a documented “send conversation” command.
On a computer
- Open Google Maps in your browser.
- Choose Menu.
- Select Ask Maps, then History.
- Select the conversation.
The desktop help page describes selecting a prior thread, but it does not describe a general share button for the complete conversation. If someone else needs the recommendations, move the useful places into a list and share that list instead.
How do I share an Ask Maps conversation?
Google’s cited Ask Maps help does not document a way to share an entire thread as a transcript or as a single conversation link. Do not assume that copying a Maps URL, sending a screenshot, or sharing a saved-list link will carry the chat text with it.
Free tools Windows power users keep installed
One-click scans. No signup required.
Use this two-part workflow:
- Reopen the thread from History on Android or desktop.
- For every recommendation worth keeping, save the place to a named list, then share the list or selected places.
If the exact wording of the conversation matters, you can send it separately using your normal messaging or document tool, but that is outside the Maps sharing workflow documented by Google. Treat the list as the durable, navigable record of the locations rather than as a copy of the conversation.
Save the useful recommendations to a named list
Create a list that explains its purpose
Give the list a name that tells recipients when, where, or why the places matter—for example, Saturday in central Boston or Client-visit restaurants near the convention center. A descriptive name is easier to recognize in the You tab and in a shared-link preview than a generic name such as “Favorites.”
Save each place
- Open the place’s Google Maps listing from the Ask Maps answer or by searching for the location.
- Use the listing’s Save control.
- Choose the new list or an existing list.
- Repeat for each recommendation you want to retain.
On a computer, Google’s saved-place guidance covers creating lists and adding places in Create a list of places and Save favorite places. The list is the container you share; the Ask Maps thread remains in History.
Keep the list usable
- Save only places that survived a quick check of the current listing.
- Use one list per outing or project when the collection would otherwise become difficult to scan.
- Check addresses, opening hours, booking requirements, and dates before relying on an AI recommendation.
- Remember that Google documents a limit of 3,000 entries per saved list; split a very large collection into multiple lists.
Can I send someone a list of places in Google Maps?
Share a view link
Google’s computer list instructions provide a Send a link to view option for a shared list. Use the list’s sharing controls, copy the view link, and send it through your preferred messaging or email app. A person with the link can find the list; the link does not automatically make that person an editor.
List creation and sharing controls are described in Google Maps Help’s Create a list of places instructions. If the interface labels the list as shared, review the visibility setting before copying the link.
Invite editors for group planning
When several people need to add, remove, or reorganize places, use the list’s invitation control to add editors. An invited editor has a different permission from someone who merely receives the view link. Tell collaborators which role they have so nobody assumes that opening the link grants edit access.

Choose a list rather than individual messages
A list is preferable when the collection will change, when recipients need map context, or when more than a few places are involved. Individual place shares are quicker for a small hand-off, but they scatter the recommendations across separate messages and make later updates harder to follow.
How do I share places from Google Maps on Android?
For a handful of locations already saved in Maps, Google documents direct selected-place sharing:
- Open Google Maps and go to Your places.
- Select the saved entries you want to send.
- Tap Share.
- Choose the app or contact through which to send them.
The Android help page for finding saved content is Find your places & lists in the You tab. Use this route for a short list of places. For a continuing itinerary or a group project, share the named list instead so everyone returns to one collection.
Will people see my saved places?
Not by default. Saved places are private to you until you share a list. Creating a shared list changes its audience, so check the list’s visibility before sending its link.
What a view link exposes
Google’s computer instructions say that a shared list can be found by anyone who has the link. Treat the link as transferable: anyone who receives it may be able to open the list. Avoid putting sensitive addresses, private meeting locations, or other information in a broadly circulated list.
What an editor invitation exposes
Inviting someone to edit gives that person a collaboration role, not just read access. Use editor invitations only for people you trust to change the collection. If a recipient only needs directions or recommendations, send the view link.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
Check before you send
- Open the list-sharing controls and confirm whether it is private or shared.
- Review the editor invitations and remove people who no longer need access.
- Open the link yourself, or in a separate browser session, to confirm what a recipient can see.
- Do not confuse a list’s visibility with the privacy of your other saved places; sharing one list does not document access to every list in your account.
Keep the places easy to find after sharing
- Start from the chat. Reopen the relevant Ask Maps thread from History.
- Filter the recommendations. Keep locations that fit your date, area, budget, accessibility needs, and other real constraints.
- Create a descriptive list. Include the occasion or neighborhood in the name.
- Save each place. Add the useful listings to that list instead of leaving them only in the conversation.
- Choose the sharing level. Use selected-place sharing for a few Android entries, a view link for read-only distribution, or editor invitations for group planning.
- Send context with the link. Tell recipients what the list covers and whether they should suggest additions or simply use it for reference.
- Recheck time-sensitive details. Business hours, availability, prices, and policies can change after an AI answer was generated.
This workflow keeps navigation in Maps while leaving the original reasoning available in your own History.
Use the right sharing method for the job
| Situation | Recommended route | Reason |
|---|---|---|
| You are sending one or two recommendations immediately | Share the individual place or use selected-place sharing on Android | It is faster than creating and maintaining a collection. |
| You have several stops for one day or trip | Save them to a descriptive list and send the view link | Recipients get one map-based collection instead of scattered messages. |
| A group is still deciding what to visit | Invite named collaborators as editors | Editors can maintain the collection; viewers cannot edit merely by opening the link. |
| You need to preserve why a place was suggested | Keep the Ask Maps thread in History and send separate notes if needed | The saved list preserves locations, not the conversation transcript. |
This distinction also helps when a recipient asks for an update. You can change the list without rewriting the whole conversation, while still reopening History when you need the original context.
A practical example
Suppose Ask Maps suggests museums, a cafe, and an accessible dinner spot for Saturday in central Boston. Reopen the thread, remove options that do not fit the group, and save the remaining listings to a list called Saturday in central Boston. Check each listing’s address and hours, then use Send a link to view for friends who only need the plan. If everyone is choosing restaurants together, invite the relevant people as editors instead. If one friend only needs the cafe and museum, select those saved entries under Your places on Android and tap Share.

The example shows why saving first is useful: the group can return to one collection, while the original Ask Maps exchange remains available to you for reference.
Maintain a shared list over time
A shared list is not a snapshot of business information. When plans change, remove places that no longer fit, add replacements, and tell recipients what changed. Recheck opening hours, prices, reservation rules, accessibility information, and dates before an outing. If the list has served its purpose, review its sharing controls and remove editor access or stop sharing it rather than leaving an old link circulating.
Keep sensitive information out of a broadly shared list. A link intended for one group can be forwarded, and Google’s computer instructions say anyone with the link can find a shared list. Use a private list until the contents are ready to distribute.
What happens if I delete the Ask Maps conversation?
Ask Maps History lets you delete a conversation, and Google’s instructions specify that deletion applies to the full conversation rather than a selected portion. Deleting the thread should not be presented as deleting the places you saved separately.
Google distinguishes Maps history from saved lists and labels: its history guidance says deleting Maps history does not remove saved lists or labels. Manage those items independently if you no longer want them available. See Manage your Maps history for history controls.

Google says Ask Maps conversations may be included in Maps activity when the relevant history setting is enabled. Its explanation of AI data use also says past conversations and saved lists or labels may be used for AI personalization where the feature is available and enabled. Review the controls in How AI-powered features use your data in Google Maps if you want to manage activity or personalization. These controls are separate from changing a list’s sharing permissions.
Check Ask Maps answers before forwarding them
Google Maps Help warns that AI-powered answers can sometimes be incorrect. Google advises checking important information in more than one place and opening the linked sources. Before sharing a recommendation, verify the current business listing, address, hours, service availability, and any detail that could affect a reservation or journey.
Do not treat the existence of a place in a saved list as confirmation that every statement in the original answer remains accurate. A list preserves your selected location; it does not freeze changing business information.
Availability notes for Ask Maps actions
Some Ask Maps features can connect to third-party actions such as ordering or booking, but those actions are separate from sharing a conversation or list. Google’s current help says these capabilities have eligibility requirements that include being at least 18, being in the United States, using English, and accessing Ask Maps through the mobile app or Ask Maps web app. Google also says a user may complete a transaction on a third-party site. Availability can change, so do not assume that an action shown in one account or region is available to everyone. The relevant documentation is Taking actions within Ask Maps with third-parties.

Troubleshooting the sharing workflow
History is empty or the conversation is missing
Confirm that you are in the same Google account and have opened Ask Maps before selecting History. If the thread was deleted, the documented deletion behavior removes the full conversation. You can still build a new list by reopening the places from current Maps listings.
The recipient cannot edit the list
Opening a view link does not itself document edit access. Return to the list’s sharing controls and invite the person as an editor if collaborative changes are intended.
The recipient cannot open the list
Check that you copied the list’s current view link and that the list is shared rather than private. If the list contains sensitive information, do not broaden access simply to solve a delivery problem; send only the individual places that the recipient needs.
You need to share more than a few places
Move the locations into one named list and send that list’s view link. Direct selected-place sharing is documented for Android, but a list gives a group one place to return to as the collection changes.
Frequently asked questions
Can I share the full Ask Maps transcript with one link?
Google’s documented workflow explains how to reopen a conversation from History, not how to publish a complete thread. Share the useful places through a list, and send any transcript or screenshots separately if the wording matters.
Does sharing a list share all of my saved places?
No. Saved places are private unless you share a particular list. Review that list’s visibility and editor invitations before sending its link; sharing one collection does not document access to your other lists.
What is better for three places: a list or individual shares?
Either works. On Android, selected-place sharing is convenient for a small hand-off. A named list is better if the places belong together, may change, or need to remain easy for the group to find later.
Can a recipient edit a list from the view link?
Not automatically. Google distinguishes a view link from an editor invitation. Invite collaborators through the list’s sharing controls when you want them to add, remove, or reorganize places.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Will deleting the chat delete my saved places?
No. Google says Maps history deletion does not remove saved lists or labels. Ask Maps deletion removes the full conversation, so manage the chat and saved locations as separate items.

How accurate are Ask Maps recommendations?
Google warns that AI-powered answers can sometimes be incorrect. Check important details in more than one place, open linked sources, and verify current listings before making a reservation or relying on a recommendation.
Bottom line
Use Ask Maps History to reopen the conversation, not as a presumed transcript-sharing tool. Save the worthwhile recommendations to a clearly named list, verify important details, and share the list with the minimum access people need. For a small Android hand-off, select entries under Your places and tap Share; for ongoing collaboration, invite editors explicitly.
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I share an Ask Maps conversation?
Reopen it from Ask Maps > History, then save the useful locations to a named Google Maps list. Share the list’s view link or selected Android places; Google does not document a general full-transcript share link.

On Android, open Google Maps, tap Ask Maps below the search bar, choose History, and tap the conversation. On a computer, choose Menu > Ask Maps > History and select the thread.
Can I send someone a list of places in Google Maps?
Yes. Create or open a named list, use its sharing controls, and choose the option to send a link to view. Anyone with the shared link can find the list, while editing requires an invitation.
Will people see my saved places?
Saved places remain private unless you share a list. Sharing one list does not document access to every list in your account, but anyone who receives a shared-list link may be able to open that collection.
Does deleting an Ask Maps conversation remove saved locations?
No. Ask Maps deletion removes the full conversation, while Google says deleting Maps history does not remove saved lists or labels. Manage the conversation and lists separately.
