To show a Visio diagram in Confluence Cloud, export it from Visio as a PNG, JPEG, or PDF, then upload the export to your page or live doc. Attach the original .vsdx as well if readers need to download or preserve the source. An uploaded file is not necessarily displayed inline, and a static export is not an editable Visio canvas.
Choose the right way to share the diagram

Export the drawing from Visio
Visio desktop
- Open the drawing and choose File > Export.
- Choose PDF or an available image format, such as PNG, JPG, or SVG, and complete the export.
For a diagram intended to appear visually in a Confluence page, an image export is a straightforward choice. Use PDF when readers need a document-style view or the drawing spans multiple pages.
Visio for the web
- Open the drawing and choose File > Save As.
- Select Download as PDF or Download as Image.
- For an image, choose PNG or JPEG, select the page or pages, and set resolution. PNG also allows a transparent background.
The web PDF export includes all pages according to the drawing’s page layout. Keep the Visio source separately if people will need to edit it.
Upload the export to Confluence Cloud
- Open the Confluence page or live doc and enter edit mode.
- Drag the exported image or PDF onto the page, or use the toolbar’s file or image upload control.
- Publish or update the page, then check how the attachment appears. Depending on file type and editor support, it may display inline or as a link or card.
You need Add Attachments permission in the space to upload files. Confluence versions attachments; uploading a revised file with the same filename creates a new attachment version. Because the export is separate from the Visio source, repeat the export and upload when the drawing changes.

Use an iFrame only for a webpage
In edit mode, insert the iFrame macro from the toolbar or slash-command menu, then configure the webpage URL and dimensions. Atlassian describes the macro as a way to “embed a webpage inside a Confluence page or live doc.” It does not turn an arbitrary .vsdx attachment into an editable Visio diagram.
The remote site may block framing with security headers, or the browser may prevent the embed. If the frame is blank, try HTTPS where appropriate; otherwise use a regular link or upload an export.

Fix common upload and display problems
The upload control is missing
Ask a space administrator to check whether you have Add Attachments permission.

Use a link or card if available, or export the drawing as a supported image or PDF and upload that instead. Attaching a file does not guarantee that Confluence will display every file type inline.

The iFrame is blank
Check whether the destination permits framing and whether the browser is blocking it. If it cannot be embedded, link to the webpage or share an uploaded export.
A documented option is absent
Confluence editor interfaces, permissions, macro availability, and Visio plan entitlements can vary. Check the Visio license and Confluence tenant in use. Atlassian’s Office macro documentation discusses deprecation of infrequently used Word and PowerPoint macros; that is not a reason to treat an Office macro as the standard route for Visio.
