To play the same audio in several rooms, create a WiiM Home multi-room group with at least two WiiM devices on the same network as your phone or tablet. Choose one device as the lead, connect any TV, turntable, CD player or PC to that lead, then add the other WiiM devices as followers from the chain-link control in WiiM Home. The lead receives and broadcasts the source; the followers play it throughout the group.
The right method depends on your source and control app. WiiM Home groups can relay supported physical inputs, persistent groups save a named combination for reuse, while Alexa and Google Cast speaker groups are network-input workflows with different limitations.
How WiiM multi-room audio is organized
A WiiM group has one lead device and one or more followers. The lead is the first device selected for the group and is responsible for receiving the stream or physical input. It then distributes that audio over the network to the followers. Playback, group volume and delay controls are managed from the selected control surface.

One free scan finds every outdated or missing driver and matches the right update for your exact hardware.Free scan · exact hardware matchThis arrangement matters when you use a physical source. A turntable, television, CD player or computer must be connected to the lead; plugging it into a follower does not make that input available to the rest of a WiiM Home group. Input names and connectors vary by model, so confirm the manual for each device before buying cables or planning a room.

Choose the group type before you connect anything
| Group type | Best for | Source support | Where it is controlled | Important limitation |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| WiiM Home multi-room group | WiiM-to-WiiM playback, including a supported physical source connected to the lead | Network streams plus model-dependent Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, Line In, optical and HDMI ARC inputs | WiiM Home; some compatible third-party apps can send playback | Some music apps do not support WiiM multi-room playback |
| WiiM persistent group | A saved room combination that you use repeatedly | Uses the playback capabilities of the selected WiiM devices | WiiM Home and Spotify | WiiM says persistent groups do not appear in AirPlay, TIDAL, Alexa or Google Home |
| Alexa speaker group | Voice or app playback through an Alexa-based network setup | Network inputs only | Alexa | WiiM documents that listed physical inputs cannot be relayed over Wi-Fi through this group type |
| Google Cast speaker group | Playback controlled through Google Home and Cast-compatible services | Network inputs only | Google Home and Cast-enabled apps | Assign devices to a room in Google Home first; listed physical inputs are not relayed as they are in a WiiM Home group |
Use WiiM Home when the source is a television, record player, CD player or line-level device. Use a persistent group when the same rooms should be available as a named preset. Choose Alexa or Google Cast only when your source is network playback and that platform is where you want to control the system.
Prepare the devices and network
- Have at least two WiiM devices ready. A group containing only one device is not a multi-room group.
- Install WiiM Home on the phone or tablet you will use for setup.
- Connect the phone or tablet and every WiiM device to the same local network. A device on a different Wi-Fi network, guest network or isolated VLAN may not appear during grouping.
- Decide which room will contain the lead. Put the lead where the external source cable can reach it if you plan to use a TV, turntable, CD player or PC.
- Check the selected model’s physical inputs and outputs. WiiM’s product families include WiiM Mini, WiiM Pro, WiiM Pro Plus, WiiM Amp models, WiiM Ultra, WiiM Sound, WiiM Sound Lite and WiiM Edition speakers, but the product-family list does not mean every model has every connector or feature.
- For a TV, identify whether the television and WiiM model can use HDMI ARC, optical, coaxial or line-level connection. The available choice is model-dependent.
Set up a WiiM Home multi-room group
- Install and open WiiM Home. Complete initial device setup for each WiiM unit so all of them are visible in the app’s Devices tab.
- Connect an external source to the intended lead, if needed. Connect the TV, CD player, turntable or PC to the lead’s supported input. For a turntable that needs phono amplification, use the appropriate phono stage before the WiiM line input; the WiiM documentation does not state that every model includes one.
- Open Devices. Locate the WiiM device that should receive the source and act as the lead.
- Tap the chain-link icon. On the lead device, tap the chain-link control at the top right of its device card.
- Select the followers. Choose the other WiiM devices that should play in the additional rooms. Select two or more total devices, counting the lead.
- Tap Done. WiiM Home creates the group and shows the new group in the Devices tab. The lead remains the source device; the selected units become followers.
- Start playback from the group. Select the group in Devices and choose content in WiiM Home. WiiM also describes sending playback from some third-party apps, including Spotify and Qobuz, but support is app-specific rather than universal.
- Set volume and timing. Use the group volume control to change all rooms together, or adjust individual devices separately. If television speech and picture are not aligned, open Group Audio Delay and adjust it for your installation. WiiM does not publish one delay value that fits every TV, network or model.
- Separate the rooms again. Reopen the group control, uncheck the devices you want to remove and confirm. The remaining devices can then play independently.
Connect common physical sources to the lead
Television
WiiM’s television guidance lists HDMI ARC, optical, coaxial and line as possible connection methods, depending on the TV and WiiM model. Choose the connector supported by both devices, select that input on the lead, and then add the other room devices with the chain-link control. The May 19, 2025 WiiM Help Center article demonstrates this lead-first workflow for distributing TV audio.
TV playback is the case most likely to need Group Audio Delay. Change the delay while watching familiar dialogue and apply the smallest correction that aligns speech with the picture. Because the source, television processing and WiiM model all affect latency, do not copy a delay value from another installation.
Turntable
Connect the turntable’s output to a supported line input on the lead. A turntable with a moving-magnet or moving-coil cartridge normally needs a phono preamp; whether that preamp is built into the turntable, an external component or the WiiM model must be checked separately. Once the lead receives the analog signal, create the WiiM Home group and select the group for playback.

CD player
Use a digital or analog output that the lead model accepts, such as optical, coaxial or line input where provided. Select that input on the lead before grouping the other rooms. The group carries the lead’s selected source, so changing the lead to another input changes what followers hear.
PC or other line-level device
Connect the computer or other source to a supported input on the lead, then start the WiiM Home group. If the computer is sending audio over the network instead of through a cable, it follows the network-streaming compatibility of the app or service being used.
Save a persistent group for repeated room combinations
A persistent group is a named preset rather than a one-time selection. It is useful when, for example, the kitchen, living room and patio should usually play together but you occasionally want other rooms separate.
- Open WiiM Home and go to Devices > Groups.
- Choose the WiiM devices that belong in the preset.
- Give the combination a recognizable name and save it.
- Select that named group from WiiM Home when you want the same rooms again. WiiM also states that persistent groups can be selected in Spotify.
Persistent groups are not exposed in AirPlay, TIDAL, Alexa or Google Home according to WiiM’s persistent-group article, modified October 23, 2025. If you need those control surfaces, use their own supported grouping workflow instead of expecting the saved WiiM preset to appear there.

When Alexa or Google Cast grouping is the better fit
Alexa groups
An Alexa speaker group can be appropriate when all playback comes from network services and Alexa is already your preferred controller. WiiM’s December 31, 2024 support guidance distinguishes this workflow from WiiM Home multi-room: the listed physical inputs are not relayed over Wi-Fi through the Alexa group. A turntable or TV connected to a WiiM lead therefore requires a WiiM Home group for the documented physical-source behavior.
Google Cast groups
For Google Cast, assign the WiiM devices to a room in Google Home before creating the speaker group. WiiM’s May 6, 2026 guidance likewise describes network-input grouping and does not treat HDMI ARC, optical, line or other listed physical inputs as equivalent to WiiM Home input distribution.
Both platform groups are separate from WiiM persistent groups. Decide first whether the content starts as a network stream or as a cable-connected source; that choice determines which grouping method can carry it.

WiiM provides a PC version of the WiiM Home workflow. Its May 11, 2026 help article says groups can be created and modified from the app’s Devices page. The same minimum applies: a functioning group requires at least two devices. If you edit a group down to one device, WiiM says the group disbands automatically rather than remaining as a one-device preset.

Published multi-room resolution
WiiM’s Help Center guide, modified July 23, 2026, states: “Currently, WiiM Multi-room music playback is limited to 48 kHz / 16-bit audio quality.” This is a WiiM-published specification, not an independent laboratory measurement. WiiM says support for higher quality may come through future updates, but no higher limit should be assumed for the current setup.
Bluetooth caveat
WiiM warns that a Bluetooth speaker connected to a WiiM device may be out of sync with the other speakers in a multi-room setup. For rooms that must stay together, use WiiM devices participating directly in the supported network group rather than adding a Bluetooth speaker and expecting identical timing.
Recommended Free Tools
Do not assume zero delay
WiiM describes followers as playing the lead’s audio in sync, but the published setup material does not provide independent timing measurements or a universal zero-delay guarantee. Room acoustics, network conditions, source processing and Bluetooth connections can affect what you hear. Group Audio Delay is the documented adjustment for television alignment.

Troubleshoot the most common setup failures
| Symptom | Likely cause | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| A WiiM device is missing from the chain-link list | The device or control phone is on a different network, or initial setup is incomplete | Confirm the same network, reopen Devices, and finish setup for the missing unit before grouping |
| The group exists but a room is silent | The follower is muted, at zero volume, offline or not actually selected | Open the group, verify the follower is checked, raise its individual volume and confirm its network status |
| The wrong source plays everywhere | The lead is set to a different input | Change the lead to the intended TV, optical, line, coaxial or other supported input, then resume group playback |
| A music app cannot see the group | The app does not support WiiM multi-room or the group type is not exposed there | Start playback in WiiM Home, try a documented compatible app such as Spotify or Qobuz, or use the platform-specific group for network audio |
| TV sound is ahead of or behind the picture | Source and display processing introduce different latency | Adjust Group Audio Delay gradually while watching dialogue; there is no universal setting |
| A Bluetooth room drifts from the others | WiiM warns that Bluetooth-connected speakers may be out of sync | Use a networked WiiM participant for synchronized rooms, or treat the Bluetooth room as independent |
| A saved group does not appear in Google Home, Alexa, AirPlay or TIDAL | Persistent groups have limited app availability | Use WiiM Home or Spotify for the persistent preset, or recreate a group in the platform you intend to control |
| A group disappears after editing | Only one device remains | Add a second WiiM device; WiiM says a one-device group disbands automatically |
Plan an expandable WiiM system
Start with the room containing the most important source and make that device the lead. Add a second WiiM device for the first additional room, verify the group, then expand one room at a time. This approach exposes connector, Wi-Fi and volume issues before the installation becomes difficult to troubleshoot.
A WiiM Mini streamer is one searchable device category for adding network playback to an existing amplifier or powered speaker, but the name alone does not establish its inputs, current price, stock status or compatibility with a particular source. Check the current model manual and the official WiiM support pages before purchasing. The same caution applies to WiiM Pro, Pro Plus, Amp, Ultra and Sound models: product families overlap, while physical connectors and supported grouping features can differ.
Use this decision checklist
- TV, turntable, CD player or cabled PC: choose WiiM Home, connect the source to the lead and add followers.
- Repeated room combination: save a persistent group under Devices > Groups, remembering that WiiM lists WiiM Home and Spotify as its available control surfaces.
- Network streaming controlled by Alexa: create an Alexa speaker group, accepting that WiiM documents network-only inputs for this workflow.
- Network streaming controlled by Google Home: assign devices to a Google Home room, then create a Google Cast speaker group; physical inputs are not documented as relayable in this mode.
- Need the best possible quality: plan around WiiM’s stated 48 kHz / 16-bit multi-room limit as of July 23, 2026.
- Need strict room-to-room timing: avoid relying on a Bluetooth-attached speaker and use Group Audio Delay only for source alignment, especially with TV.
The essential setup is simple: two or more compatible WiiM devices, one network, one clearly chosen lead and the right grouping method for your source. Everything else—persistent presets, third-party app control, TV delay and platform speaker groups—follows from that choice.
