Yes—many Samsung Galaxy phones support Wi-Fi Calling, but availability depends on both the phone and its carrier. When enabled, the feature lets you make calls and send messages over Wi-Fi where cellular coverage is unavailable. You need an active SIM or eSIM and a Wi-Fi connection; your carrier must also support and enable the feature for your device.
What you need before turning it on
- A Galaxy phone and carrier combination that supports Wi-Fi Calling.
- An active SIM card or eSIM with carrier service.
- A Wi-Fi connection. Samsung says a strong connection is needed for the feature to work reliably.
- Emergency address information, if your phone prompts you to provide it during setup.
Samsung Canada says an active mobile network connection is not required to use Wi-Fi Calling once it is set up. That does not mean the phone can be without active carrier service: an active SIM or eSIM is still required. Availability and activation requirements vary by carrier and market. Samsung US support and Samsung Canada support describe these requirements.
How to enable Wi-Fi Calling
- Connect your Galaxy phone to Wi-Fi and make sure its SIM is inserted or its eSIM is active.
- Open Settings, then tap Connections.
- Tap Wi-Fi Calling and switch it on.
- If asked, enter or confirm the emergency address information requested by your carrier.
Menu names and locations can differ by model, software version, and carrier. If you do not see the setting under Connections, open the Phone app, tap More options, then Settings and look for Wi-Fi calling. Some phones also provide a Wi-Fi Calling control in Quick Settings. Check carrier and device eligibility
Wi-Fi Calling is a carrier-provided feature, and not every Galaxy device or carrier supports it. Contact your carrier to confirm that the feature is available and enabled for your specific line and phone. A missing toggle by itself does not establish that the phone hardware is incompatible. Samsung notes that feature availability varies by carrier and device in its US support guidance.

Confirm service and Wi-Fi
Check that the phone is connected to Wi-Fi and that the SIM or eSIM is active. If either requirement is missing, Wi-Fi Calling may not be available. A weak Wi-Fi connection can also prevent it from working properly; Samsung advises using a strong connection. If the setting is present but activation still fails, ask the carrier to check line and device provisioning. See Samsung Canada’s setup guidance.
Check carrier-specific settings
Some carriers require an additional setting. For example, Samsung says VoLTE must be enabled on AT&T phones to activate Wi-Fi Calling. This is a carrier-specific condition, not a general requirement for every Galaxy user. Consult Samsung’s US support page or your carrier for the instructions that apply to your service.

Review the emergency address
Your phone or carrier may request emergency address details during setup. If the information changes, update it in the Wi-Fi Calling settings where that option is available. Samsung includes emergency information in its US setup instructions.

What to do if it still does not work
- Reconnect to Wi-Fi and confirm that the connection is strong.
- Check that your SIM is inserted or your eSIM is active and that carrier service is enabled.
- Look for Wi-Fi Calling in both Settings and the Phone app’s call settings; menu placement varies.
- Confirm with your carrier that your line and Galaxy model are eligible, and ask whether any carrier-specific setting is required.
- Contact the carrier if the feature remains unavailable after those checks. Samsung’s Ireland support guide also identifies network-provider enablement as a requirement.
