WebAdmin is built into the Killing Floor 2 dedicated server. To enable it, stop the server, set bEnabled=true in KFGame/Config/KFWeb.ini under [IpDrv.WebServer], configure an administrator password in the active KFGame server configuration, then restart the server. The usual address is http://127.0.0.1:8080/WebAdmin/ locally or http://<server-address>:8080/WebAdmin/ from another device.
This guide covers self-hosted and managed servers, port forwarding, authentication, multiple administrators, and the fixes for the most common connection and login errors.
What KF2 WebAdmin does
WebAdmin is the HTTP control panel included with a Killing Floor 2 dedicated-server process. It is not a separate application or service that you install beside the game server. When the server process is running and the WebAdmin listener is enabled, a browser can connect to the listener and provide administrative controls.

What you need before changing anything
- Access to the machine or hosting panel that starts the dedicated server.
- Permission to stop and start the server and edit its configuration.
- The active server profile’s
KFGameconfiguration, not an unused template or a different installation. - A plan for who should reach the panel: only the server machine, your LAN, or remote administrators over the internet.
- A firewall rule and, for an internet-accessible server, a router/NAT rule for the WebAdmin TCP port.
Default ports and which ones to expose
The commonly documented defaults are shown below. These are transport-specific: the game and query services use UDP, while WebAdmin uses TCP.

The 7777/UDP, 27015/UDP, 20560/UDP and 8080/TCP defaults are documented in KF2 setup material and LinuxGSM documentation. A managed host or a multi-server installation may assign a different WebAdmin port. Do not assume that opening every listed port is necessary; permit only the traffic your topology requires.
How to choose an exposure model
For a server that you administer from the same machine, bind your workflow to loopback and do not create an internet-facing rule. For a home or office LAN, permit the WebAdmin TCP port from the private administrator subnet only. Public access is a separate decision: it requires a reachable public address, router forwarding, and a host-firewall rule, and it increases the number of systems that can attempt to reach the login page.

Keep the game and WebAdmin decisions separate. Players may need 7777/UDP while administrators need 8080/TCP. Opening the game port does not make WebAdmin available, and opening WebAdmin does not publish the game server.
Enable WebAdmin on a self-hosted server
1. Install or update the dedicated-server files
Use your normal Killing Floor 2 dedicated-server distribution and update it before configuring the panel. Start the server once after installation. That first run creates the configuration tree and profile files that the server actually uses.
If you maintain more than one server instance, record the instance directory and profile used by its startup script. Editing the files in another installation is a common reason for apparently ignored settings.
2. Stop the server before editing
Stop the dedicated-server process cleanly. Open:
KFGame/Config/KFWeb.ini
Find the [IpDrv.WebServer] section and set:
[IpDrv.WebServer]
bEnabled=truePreserve the section name and use the configuration file belonging to the active profile. If the section already contains a value, change that value rather than creating a second section elsewhere in the file.
Do not edit a packaged example, backup, or development profile and then assume the running instance will read it. The startup script, service definition, or provider panel determines which installation and profile are active. Make a backup before changing the file so a malformed edit can be reversed.
3. Set the administrator password
Set AdminPassword in the platform-specific KFGame server INI used by the instance. Windows and Linux distributions can use different profile filenames (for example, a PCServer or LinuxServer KFGame configuration), so follow the path used by your startup script rather than copying a filename from another installation.
Some launch scripts accept a URL-style parameter:
?adminpassword=<value>Community setup documentation notes that a password supplied on the launch line takes precedence over the value in the INI. If the password in the file appears to have no effect, inspect the complete startup command for an older or different adminpassword value.

Use a long, unique password. Avoid placing it directly on a command line when other users can view process listings or when startup logs record the complete command. An administrator guide recommends keeping AdminPassword and GamePassword in the KFGame INI when practical, with file permissions restricted to the account that runs the server.
4. Start the server and verify the listener
Start the server using the same script or service that normally launches it. Watch the startup log for the WebAdmin listener and the port it binds. If there is no listener entry, recheck that the server read the intended KFWeb.ini, that bEnabled=true is inside [IpDrv.WebServer], and that the process completed startup.
The service cannot answer requests while the game-server process is stopped, even if the configuration is correct.
5. Test locally first
On the server machine, open:
http://127.0.0.1:8080/WebAdmin/
Testing the loopback address separates a WebAdmin configuration problem from a firewall, router, or DNS problem. If the local page does not load, do not troubleshoot port forwarding yet; first verify the listener, port, and active files.
6. Test from the LAN
From another device on the same network, replace the loopback address with the server’s private address, for example:
http://192.168.1.50:8080/WebAdmin/
Use the server’s actual LAN address. A browser on the server can reach 127.0.0.1 even when the service is not reachable from other machines, so a successful local test does not prove that the host firewall allows LAN traffic.
Test the private address from a second LAN device before changing DNS or trying an external address. Guest Wi-Fi and VLAN isolation can block otherwise correct private-network rules.
7. Publish the panel only when necessary
For remote administration, use the public address and forward the selected WebAdmin TCP port from the router to the server host. With the default port, the URL is:
http://<public-address>:8080/WebAdmin/
Create a host-firewall rule for the same TCP port. Restrict the source addresses to trusted administrator networks when your firewall and router support that option. If your ISP uses carrier-grade NAT, ordinary port forwarding may not provide an inbound path; in that case, keep administration on the LAN or use the access method supplied by your hosting environment.

8. Log in
The documented login user is Admin. Enter that username and the password configured for the server. Usernames and passwords are separate from the Steam account used to play on the server.
Authentication settings and additional administrators
When a browser reports invalid form data
A community troubleshooting guide recommends testing HTTP authentication by setting bHttpAuth=true in KFWebAdmin.ini when the login form reports invalid data. Treat this as a compatibility troubleshooting step, not as a setting every installation must enable. Change it only in the active profile, restart the server, and retest the login page.
Change one authentication setting at a time and record the previous value. That makes it clear whether a restart solved the issue or whether another change was responsible. If the page loads but ordinary credentials are rejected, check the password source before changing HTTP authentication.

Separate accounts with MultiWebAdminAuth
For installations that need more than one administrator identity, community documentation identifies this setting in KFWebAdmin.ini:

AuthenticationClass=WebAdmin.MultiWebAdminAuthWith that authentication class, configure additional accounts and permission rules through the WebAdmin interface where possible. Follow the interface’s restart requirement after changing authentication settings; existing sessions may not reflect a new authentication class until the server restarts.
Give each person only the permissions needed for their job. Separate accounts make it possible to remove one administrator without distributing a shared password and provide a clearer audit trail in operational logs. Keep a recovery account or documented local procedure so a permissions mistake does not lock every administrator out.
Managed-hosting setup
A managed provider may hide the INI files and expose WebAdmin controls in its panel instead. The workflow is usually: stop the server, enable WebAdmin, note the assigned port, set the administrator password, and start the server again.
For a managed Killing Floor 2 server, Godlike.Host provides Killing Floor 2 hosting through its own game panel. Its Killing Floor 2 plans list 10, 20 and 30 slots; Survival is a 6-player mode and Versus Survival an up-to-12-player mode (Tripwire’s Killing Floor 2 wiki, archived 11 Jul 2026).
Provider-assigned ports
In a support article updated 16 September 2026, Kinetic Hosting states that its WebAdmin port is assigned automatically and cannot be changed from that provider’s Settings tab. The practical consequence is that you must use the displayed port in the browser URL and in any firewall rule; do not assume it is 8080.
Write down the assigned port with the server name and panel URL. If the provider rebuilds or migrates the instance, verify that the assignment has not changed before diagnosing a browser timeout.

Startup-parameter and properties-file approaches

Other managed environments, including the workflow described by Shockbyte, use a hosted properties file for basic values and the WebAdmin panel for essential options. The labels differ, but the checks are the same: confirm the assigned port, save the password in the panel, restart, and test the exact URL shown by the provider.
Do not combine a panel value and a hand-edited startup parameter unless the provider says which one wins. A hidden generated file or launch argument can overwrite a manual edit at the next restart. When the panel is the documented source of truth, make the change there and use the generated configuration only for verification.

Self-hosting is appropriate when you need complete control over mods, profiles, scripts and firewall policy and can maintain the operating system. Managed hosting trades some file-level control for a provider-managed network path, backups or support, depending on the plan. Compare those responsibilities rather than assuming one option is universally cheaper or faster; published comparable prices and performance benchmarks are not available for these workflows.

The browser says it cannot connect
- Confirm the server process is running and completed startup.
- Test
http://127.0.0.1:8080/WebAdmin/on the server machine. - Confirm
bEnabled=trueappears in the activeKFGame/Config/KFWeb.iniunder[IpDrv.WebServer]. - Check the startup log for the actual listener port.
- Check whether another process already owns the expected TCP port.
- Allow that TCP port through the host firewall.
- For internet access, verify router/NAT forwarding points to the correct internal host and port.
If local access works but LAN access fails, the likely boundary is the host firewall or the server’s bind/network configuration. If LAN access works but public access fails, inspect NAT, upstream firewalls and the public address rather than changing the WebAdmin files.

The page opens locally but not from another device
A loopback test does not traverse the LAN. Confirm that the server’s private address is correct, the host firewall allows inbound TCP traffic, and the client is not isolated by a guest Wi-Fi or VLAN rule. Test from a second LAN device before testing from the internet.
The public URL times out
Use the provider-assigned or configured port, not an assumed 8080. Confirm that the router forwards TCP, not UDP, and that the destination address is the server’s current private address. Dynamic private addresses can silently invalidate an otherwise correct forwarding rule.
The login is rejected
- Use the username
Admin. - Check whether a launch argument supplies a different
adminpassword; launch-line values can override the INI. - Confirm that the password was saved in the active server profile, then restart.
- If the form reports invalid data rather than a normal authentication failure, test

Changes disappear after a restart
Verify that you edited the instance’s active profile rather than a template, and inspect the startup script for parameters that override the file. Managed panels can also regenerate configuration from their own settings, so make the change in the panel when the provider documents that behavior.
One server works and another does not on the same host
Each instance needs its own game, query, Steam and WebAdmin assignments. A second instance cannot bind a port already held by the first. Check every startup command and log for duplicate WebAdmin ports, then assign a distinct port using the method supported by your installation or provider.
The URL loads a generic error or missing page
Check the path as well as the port. The usual endpoint ends with /WebAdmin/; a bare port URL may not display the administration interface. Use the exact path shown in the server documentation or provider panel, and retest after restarting if you changed the WebAdmin configuration.

Security and ongoing administration
Limit exposure
Keep WebAdmin on loopback when all administration occurs on the server machine. Use a LAN-only firewall rule for a private installation. If remote access is unavoidable, forward only the WebAdmin TCP port, restrict source addresses where possible, and avoid exposing unrelated services.
Protect credentials and configuration
- Use a unique administrator password and rotate it when an administrator leaves.
- Do not paste passwords into shared chat, tickets or publicly visible startup commands.
- Restrict filesystem permissions on KFGame INI files and WebAdmin configuration.
- Back up configuration before changing authentication or port settings.
- Review startup logs for unexpected parameters and repeated authentication errors.
Plan for updates and recovery
Record the server’s assigned WebAdmin port, profile path, firewall rule and NAT rule. After a game-server update, test local WebAdmin access before reopening remote access. Keep a known-good copy of the relevant INI files so you can restore service if a panel regenerates a file or a configuration edit prevents startup.

Is KF2 WebAdmin a separate program I need to install?

Do I need to forward WebAdmin to the internet?

Why is my hosting provider not using port 8080?
Managed hosts may assign ports automatically or expose a provider-specific setting such as ?WebAdminPort=<PORT>. Use the port displayed by the provider; Kinetic Hosting states that its assigned port cannot be changed from the Settings tab.
The Bottom Line
