txAdmin is included with every current FXServer artifact, so you do not download it as a separate resource. Extract FXServer on a supported Windows or Linux machine, launch it once without +exec server.cfg, open the panel URL and one-time PIN shown in the console, link the owner’s Cfx.re account, and deploy a RedM-compatible recipe or attach an existing server-data directory. The panel normally listens on TCP port 40120; the game commonly uses TCP and UDP port 30120, although a managed host may assign different ports.
What txAdmin does on a RedM server
txAdmin is the web administration layer that starts with FXServer. It provides the first-run wizard, recipe deployment, staff accounts, permissions, schedules, moderation controls, console access, and operational monitoring. It is not a resource that you copy into resources, and there is no separate txAdmin package to install. Official txAdmin documentation states: “You do not install txAdmin as a separate resource: it is already included with FXServer.”
RedM support still depends on the server configuration and the recipe you deploy. Opening the panel alone does not make a server target Red Dead Redemption 2. The setup must use RedM-compatible resources, game settings, and framework dependencies.
Requirements and decisions before you begin
Host and operating system
Use a supported Windows or Linux host with terminal access or a startup-control panel. The FXServer artifact directory must be writable because the first launch creates txAdmin data and later recipes may download resources or write configuration files.

Accounts and credentials
- A Cfx.re account for the server owner. The account linked during setup becomes the txAdmin owner.
- A server registration key created in the Cfx.re Portal.
- Database connection details if your chosen RedM framework stores characters, inventory, permissions, or other data in a database.
- A private location for the setup PIN, owner backup password, server key, and database password.
Choose a deployment path

For a new server, start with a RedM-compatible recommended recipe. For an established server, attach its existing directory only after backing up files and databases.
Install FXServer and start the first-run wizard
1. Download and extract a current artifact
Obtain a current recommended FXServer artifact from the Cfx.re server-setup resources. Extract it into a dedicated directory that the account running the server can read and write. Avoid protected operating-system locations that silently block file creation.

2. Launch FXServer without a configuration argument
Start the runtime from the artifact directory:
- On Windows, run
FXServer.exe. - On Linux, run
./run.sh.
For this initial launch, do not append +exec server.cfg. txAdmin needs to start its own setup flow, print the browser address and one-time PIN, and let you choose a deployment before a normal game configuration is loaded.
If you use a hosting control panel, create a startup command equivalent to the commands above for the first boot. Remove any automatic +exec server.cfg argument temporarily if the panel adds one by default.
3. Record the address and one-time PIN
Watch the FXServer console. It prints a txAdmin URL and a one-time setup PIN. On the same machine, the default address is http://localhost:40120; the panel’s default TCP port is 40120. Use the exact host address printed by your instance when connecting from another computer.

Complete txAdmin account setup
4. Open the panel and enter the PIN
- Open the URL printed in the console.
- Enter the displayed setup PIN.
- Complete the Cfx.re account-linking prompt in the browser.
- Set and store the owner backup password when txAdmin requests it.
Link the Cfx.re account that should permanently own the instance. This process creates the txAdmin master account. The owner backup password should be stored in a password manager and never reused as a database or operating-system password.
5. Set the initial server identity
Follow the wizard’s prompts for the server name, data location, and game selection. Select RedM wherever the setup environment offers a game choice. In an automated or hosting environment, the equivalent setting is TXHOST_GAME_NAME=redm.
If the wizard cannot write to the selected directory, stop and correct filesystem ownership or permissions before continuing. Do not work around the error by running the entire server as an administrator or root unless your host’s documented service model requires it.

6. Select a RedM-compatible recommended recipe
Choose a recipe explicitly intended for RedM rather than a GTA V-only recipe. A recipe is a YAML task document: it can create directories, download resources, write configuration, and request database values. The recipe’s name alone is not enough evidence of compatibility.
Before clicking deploy, inspect the recipe source and its task list. Confirm:
- It targets RedM and does not rely on GTA V-only resources.
- Its required FXServer artifact range is compatible with the artifact you downloaded.
- Framework and resource dependencies are still available.
- Database tasks match your database engine, host, port, user, and schema.
- Files will be written to an empty directory rather than overwriting another live server.
7. Supply registration and database values
Enter the server registration key when the recipe or setup wizard requests it. If the framework uses a database, provide the connection details exactly as issued by your database host. A typo in the host, port, username, password, or database name can cause a recipe task or the first server boot to fail.
Keep secrets out of screenshots and public repositories. If the generated configuration stores a credential in a plain-text connection string, restrict file permissions and treat the file as sensitive.

8. Let txAdmin run the tasks and read failures in order
Start deployment and monitor the task list. If a task fails, inspect the first failed task rather than jumping to the final error. Later tasks often fail only because an earlier download, directory creation, or database step did not complete.
Common causes include an unavailable repository, a network interruption, a GitHub rate limit, invalid database credentials, and insufficient filesystem permissions. Correct the underlying condition, then rerun only after checking whether earlier tasks left partial files.
Attach an existing RedM server
9. Select the existing-server option
Choose the wizard option for an existing server instead of a new recipe deployment. Select the directory that contains your current server-data files and identify the configuration file, normally server.cfg or an included configuration file.
10. Back up before allowing changes
Make a complete copy of the server-data directory and the txAdmin data directory, commonly referred to as txData, before attaching the installation. Back up the database separately. A file copy alone cannot restore database tables, and a database dump cannot restore resource files or configuration.
11. Check paths and startup behavior
Confirm that every resource path in the existing configuration points to the selected directory and that the service account can read the files. Start the server through txAdmin after attachment so the panel, console, restart controls, and schedules all operate on the same instance.
Make the deployment target RedM correctly
Game selection in the host environment
Where the setup environment exposes a game-name variable, use TXHOST_GAME_NAME=redm. This tells the host setup flow which game-specific defaults and recipes to present; it does not replace validation of the generated configuration.
Required game settings in server.cfg
A RedM-specific configuration guide identifies set gamename rdr3 and an enforced RDR2 build in server.cfg. Verify the exact build value required by the selected recipe or current RedM guidance before launch. Do not copy a build number from an old tutorial without checking that it is still accepted.

Review the completed configuration for RedM resources, their load order, dependency declarations, and any framework-specific startup lines. A panel can be healthy while the game server fails because one resource is missing or a dependency starts in the wrong order.

Understand txAdmin, game, and host configuration layers
Keeping settings in the correct layer prevents changes from being ignored.

Set panel-related host options before launching FXServer. Placing them in server.cfg is too late because txAdmin has already selected its interface, port, or data path by the time that file is parsed.
txAdmin version 8 documentation marks the older txAdminPort, txAdminInterface, and txDataPath ConVars as deprecated. Prefer the documented TXHOST_* environment variables for new setups and migrate old launch scripts rather than adding more deprecated entries.

Configure ports, firewalls, and remote access
Panel port
The default txAdmin panel port is TCP 40120. If you are connecting from another machine, allow that port through the host firewall only as broadly as necessary. Binding the panel to a public interface exposes an administrative login, so restrict source addresses or place it behind your provider’s private management network where possible.
RedM game endpoints
Typical game endpoints use TCP and UDP 30120. Both protocols matter: allowing only TCP can permit some connection activity while preventing normal game traffic. Managed hosts may allocate different ports, so use the endpoint values generated by the provider or recipe instead of assuming 30120.
When the panel works locally but not remotely
- Check that you are using the host’s reachable address, not
localhostfrom your own computer. - Verify the configured txAdmin port and the operating-system firewall rule.
- Check provider-level network controls, security groups, or port allocations.
- Confirm FXServer is still running from the artifact directory and has not exited after a startup error.
- Do not expose the panel by opening every inbound port; allow only the panel and game endpoints you actually use.
Create staff access without sharing the owner login
After the server starts, add individual staff accounts in txAdmin and assign only the permissions each role needs. Keep the owner account for ownership and recovery tasks. Sharing its credentials makes it impossible to audit who changed a setting and increases the impact of one leaked password.

Use separate accounts for moderation, development, and operations when those responsibilities differ. Remove or downgrade an account immediately when a staff member leaves. Review scheduled restarts and automated actions after adding staff so a new permission set cannot unexpectedly control production.
Backups and safe recipe changes
What to back up
- The complete server-data directory, including configuration and resources.
- The txAdmin data directory, commonly called
txData. - A database dump for every database-backed framework or resource.
- The startup command, environment variables, and provider port assignments.
How to test a change safely
- Copy the live files and database dump to a separate staging location.
- Read every recipe task that can delete, replace, or migrate files or tables.
- Run the recipe against an empty or staging target first.
- Check that the generated
server.cfg, resource dependencies, endpoints, and secrets are correct. - Only then schedule the production change and retain the previous backup until a clean start and player connection have been verified.
Never deploy an unreviewed recipe over a production resource directory or database. Recipe automation is convenient, but its file and database tasks have the same ability to make broad changes as a script you run manually.
Troubleshoot the first launch
The console shows no setup URL or PIN
Confirm that you launched FXServer from the extracted artifact directory and did not pass +exec server.cfg on the initial run. Stop duplicate FXServer processes, start the correct executable again, and watch the console from the beginning. A startup wrapper that changes the working directory can also prevent the expected files from being found.
The browser cannot open txAdmin
Check the host address, TCP 40120 or your custom panel port, firewall rules, and whether FXServer is still running. Test http://localhost:40120 on the server itself first. If local access works but remote access fails, the problem is usually the listening interface, provider network policy, or firewall rather than the browser.
The PIN is rejected or has expired
Use the PIN printed by the current FXServer process, not one saved from an earlier restart. Close stale setup tabs, restart the instance if necessary, and use the newly displayed PIN. Keep the replacement PIN private.
A recipe stops at a download task
Read the first failed task and its console output. Check outbound network access, repository availability, GitHub rate limits, and whether the host can create files in the target directory. Remove partial output only after confirming that it does not contain data you need, then rerun the deployment from a clean or backed-up target.
The recipe fails at the database task
Test the host, port, username, password, and database name independently with the database client or provider tools. Confirm that the database server accepts connections from the FXServer host and that the account can create or modify the schema required by the recipe. Correct credentials before rerunning migrations; repeatedly running a failed migration can leave a partially changed schema.
The panel starts but the RedM server does not
Inspect the txAdmin console for the first resource or configuration error. Verify set gamename rdr3, the required RDR2 build, endpoint values, resource paths, and dependency order. A healthy txAdmin page confirms the administration layer, not that every game resource loaded successfully.
What changes when you use managed hosting
A managed provider may supply the FXServer artifact, startup command, allocated game ports, firewall controls, backups, and a ready-made txAdmin URL. The setup sequence remains conceptually the same: link the owner account, choose a RedM recipe or existing data directory, inspect the generated configuration, and start the server through txAdmin.
