7 Days to Die includes Twitch Integration in the game client. To make it work, join the server with administrator permission, authorize a Twitch account from Options > Twitch, and—if viewers should use controls on your channel page—install and activate the 7 Days to Die Twitch Extension. Dedicated-server settings then determine who may use integration and whether actions are allowed during Blood Moon.
This guide takes you from a clean server to a verified setup, explains the settings that control viewer power, and gives recovery steps for the common “Twitch Extension Needed,” login, missing-action, and hosted-configuration problems.

Twitch Integration connects a live Twitch channel with the game session. Viewers can influence the apocalypse while they watch instead of merely observing it.
Viewer actions
- Chat can vote on major in-game events.
- Viewers can apply beneficial buffs or harmful debuffs.
- Chat can spawn individual zombies, groups, or larger hordes, subject to the server’s rules and available actions.
- Viewers earn points for helping the streamer and, in some situations, for causing the streamer’s death.
Streamer control
The streamer or administrator sets the cost and influence of actions. You can make interaction gentle for a new world, or raise the intensity once players have better gear and defenses. Action-stage progression is designed to prevent every powerful command from appearing immediately.

Where actions pause
Integration is not active everywhere. Votes and actions can pause in land-claim areas, trader areas, and active quest areas. These pauses are intentional protections, not necessarily a broken connection. Blood Moon behavior is controlled separately by the server configuration.
Requirements before you begin
Complete these checks before opening the Twitch menu:
- A Twitch account: The account must be registered with Twitch and available for authorization.
- Server permission: The person authorizing integration must have the required permission on the server. On a dedicated server, grant that permission to the streamer or administrator account before testing.
- Administrator access in game: Join the world as an administrator. Hosted servers normally require you to connect first and then open the in-game options.
- A supported game build: The client, server, and any configuration files must use the same game build. A mismatched build can make menus or commands appear incomplete.
- A live Twitch channel for viewer testing: Authorization can be completed before going live, but viewers will not see the channel extension until the channel is live and the extension is active.
Choose a server-management approach
The setup steps are similar on a private machine and a managed game-server panel, but the amount of control differs. Decide who will edit files, restart the server, and restore a backup before you change settings.

For either approach, take a backup before changing XML files. A backup gives you a quick rollback if a typo prevents the server from starting or changes gameplay unexpectedly.
Authorize Twitch in the game
Do this on the machine running the game client, after joining the target server with administrator permission.

- Join the server as an administrator. If you cannot perform administrator actions, fix the server permission first; Twitch authorization alone will not grant server access.
- Open the pause menu. Press
Esc. - Open the Twitch settings. Select Options, then open the Twitch category. Some game builds present this as a Twitch submenu inside Options.
- Start authorization. Select LOGIN TWITCH. The game opens a browser window for Twitch sign-in and consent.
- Sign in and authorize. Use the Twitch account that should receive points and control the stream’s integration. Complete every consent screen in the browser.
- Return to the game. Reopen the Twitch submenu if necessary and confirm that the Twitch username is displayed as connected.
- Review session controls. Before inviting viewers, inspect action strength, costs, vote settings, and any other controls exposed in the menu. Start with conservative values and raise them after a test session.
- Check the player indicator. A lightning-bolt indicator beside players shows that integration is active for the session.
If the browser window does not appear, check whether a popup was blocked, complete the authorization in the default browser, and return to the game. The connected username—not merely a successful browser sign-in—is the confirmation that the client retained the login.

The in-game login connects the game to Twitch, but viewers also need the channel extension to interact from the stream page.
- Open Twitch Creator Dashboard.
- Select Extensions.
- Search for 7 Days to Die.
- Install the integration extension.
- Click Activate.
- Assign the extension to an available Overlay slot.
- Go live and open your channel page in a separate browser or an incognito window to verify the viewer-facing panel.
The extension will not display to viewers while the channel is offline. Installing it without activating it, or activating it without assigning it to an overlay slot, produces the same practical result: viewers cannot use the panel.
Configure a dedicated or hosted server
Stop the server before editing
Stop the server completely before changing permissions or XML. Editing while the process is running can be overwritten when the server saves its current state, and an incomplete write can damage the configuration.
Set the Twitch server permission
Grant the streamer or administrator account the required server permission, then set TwitchServerPermission in the server configuration. The value must match the permission level your server uses for administrative Twitch access. Save the file in the panel or configuration directory, then restart the server.

Decide whether Twitch actions may run during Blood Moon
TwitchBloodMoonAllowed controls whether Twitch actions are permitted during Blood Moon. Enable it only if the server can handle the additional spawns and event pressure. Extra zombies or hordes during an already intensive phase can increase CPU, memory, network, and player-death risk. If stability is more important than maximum spectacle, leave Blood Moon actions disabled.
Use the advanced XML files
Two XML files provide deeper customization:
twitch.xmlcontains integration actions and their definitions.gameevents.xmlcontrols game-event behavior that can interact with the broader event system.
On a managed host, these files may appear under Configuration Files. Stop the server, make a dated backup, edit one file at a time, save it, and restart before testing. Keeping one change per restart makes it possible to identify a malformed value or unsupported entry.
Verify after the restart
- Confirm that the server reaches its normal ready state.
- Join with the account that has the Twitch permission.
- Open Options > Twitch and verify the connected username.
- Check the Twitch Status Window for connection and action messages.
- Run a low-impact test action while the server is not in a protected area or active quest.
- Watch the server console and player experience for lag, disconnects, or unexpected spawn volume.
Tune viewer power without overwhelming the world
Start with action costs
Costs determine how quickly viewers can trigger actions. Set prices high enough that a single viewer cannot repeatedly flood the world, but low enough that normal chat participation produces visible feedback. Adjust after observing a real stream rather than copying settings from an unrelated server.
Set action strength
Action strength controls how severe buffs, debuffs, and spawns are. A low setting is appropriate for a new world or a small audience. Increase it only after confirming that the server remains responsive under normal viewer activity.
Understand action-stage progression
Some commands unlock as the action stage rises. A viewer may therefore see fewer choices early in a playthrough than later. This progression is a game rule, not necessarily a permissions failure.

Review the Extras tab
Commands listed under Extras may require manual enabling in the Actions tab. If a command is present in the configuration but absent from the usable action list, inspect these toggles before editing XML.
How to run a safe first test
- Use a private or low-population stream for the first test.
- Stand outside a land-claim area, trader area, and active quest area so protective suppression does not hide the result.
- Choose a low-cost, low-strength action.
- Have one viewer trigger the action while you watch the Twitch Status Window.
- Confirm the expected buff, debuff, vote, or spawn in game.
- Repeat once after moving to another ordinary location to rule out a local safe-zone restriction.
- Only then raise costs, action strength, or Blood Moon permissions.
Do not test a large horde during Blood Moon on a production world. If the test causes lag or disconnects, stop the action, disable Blood Moon actions, lower strength, and review server performance before trying again.

“Twitch Extension Needed” appears
Open Twitch Creator Dashboard, find the 7 Days to Die extension, install it, click Activate, and assign it to an Overlay slot. Then go live and reload the channel page. The game login does not substitute for the viewer-facing extension.

Open the in-game Twitch submenu, log out, and sign in again. After authorization, return to the menu and verify that the connected Twitch username is shown. If the name is absent, the browser consent completed but the client did not retain the session.
The connection repeatedly fails or drops
As a diagnostic step, temporarily disable Smart Virus Protection or equivalent active scanning and attempt the login again. If the connection works only with scanning disabled, turn protection back on and add the 7 Days to Die client folder as a permanent exclusion. Do not leave antivirus protection disabled as the workaround.

Actions are missing from chat
- Open the Twitch Status Window and check for connection errors.
- Move out of a land-claim area, trader area, or active quest area.
- Check whether Blood Moon rules suppress the action.
- Confirm that the command has unlocked at the current action stage.
- Open the Actions tab and manually enable applicable entries from Extras.
- Verify that the viewer-facing extension is active if the problem occurs only on the stream page.
Server configuration changes have no effect
Stop the server before editing. Save the setting in the provider’s configuration panel or the correct server file, then restart. Confirm that you edited the active instance rather than a backup or local client copy, and verify that the account has the required permission. If the server still behaves as before, restore the backup and apply one change at a time.
The server becomes unstable after enabling actions
Disable Blood Moon actions first, lower action strength, and raise costs. Check whether a viewer or bot is issuing repeated commands. Review console messages and player latency during a controlled test. Re-enable features individually only after the server remains stable under ordinary gameplay.
Operational checklist for stream days
- Confirm the game and server builds match.
- Confirm the authorized Twitch username in Options > Twitch.
- Confirm the extension is activated and assigned to an overlay.
- Go live before expecting viewers to see the panel.
- Check the Twitch Status Window.
- Verify action costs, strength, and enabled Extras.
- Decide whether Blood Moon actions should remain disabled.
- Keep a current backup of
twitch.xml,gameevents.xml, and the main server configuration. - Tell viewers which actions are allowed and whether protected areas suppress them.
When to choose managed hosting
A managed server is useful when you need a web panel for stopping, backing up, editing configuration, and restarting without maintaining the operating system yourself. It is a poor fit if the panel hides TwitchServerPermission, TwitchBloodMoonAllowed, twitch.xml, or gameevents.xml and you require detailed control. Before renting a server, confirm current support for your game build, access to those settings, restart behavior, backup restoration, and the provider’s support response. Do not assume that an advertised Twitch feature includes the channel extension; the extension is activated in Twitch Creator Dashboard separately.
Final verification
A complete setup has four independent confirmations: the administrator can see a connected Twitch username in the game, the server accepts the configured Twitch permission, the channel extension is active in an overlay while live, and a low-impact action succeeds outside protected areas. If one confirmation is missing, troubleshoot that layer rather than repeatedly reinstalling the game or changing unrelated server settings.
