Start with Truckful fully updated, use its default gamepad layout, and leave the game’s quality setting at its default while you test a demanding area. MythicOwl reported on 6 October 2026 that Truckful held 60 fps on high settings through most of its Steam Deck testing, while also providing lower quality options for Linux handhelds that struggle. That is a developer test report, not a promise that every Deck, scene, or software build will sustain 60 fps.
If a control feels awkward, change the per-game Steam Input layout rather than remapping the whole system. If performance is uneven, lower Truckful’s own quality setting first and compare the same route or activity. No source establishes an official Truckful-specific TDP, frame cap, refresh-rate, resolution, or SteamOS graphics preset.
What the current Truckful reports mean for Steam Deck
Truckful was described before launch as optimized for Linux-based handhelds, including Steam Deck, with an expected 40–60 fps during most scenes. That statement appeared in MythicOwl’s 22 September 2026 pre-launch FAQ and was an expectation rather than a measured benchmark. MythicOwl’s later Steam Deck update, dated 6 October 2026, is the stronger piece of evidence: the developer said it had tested the game on Steam Deck and was maintaining a steady 60 fps on high settings through most of the game. It also said lower quality settings are available for Linux devices that struggle.

A demanding delivery, busy location, shader compilation event, or future patch can behave differently from the developer’s test path. The earlier 40–60-fps wording should not be combined with the later 60-fps report as if they were independent benchmarks; they are two developer statements made at different stages of the game’s release.

Patch 1.0.3, listed in the official Steam community feed by 13 October 2026, later reported improved stability on Steam Deck and SteamOS devices. Because Truckful is new and updates are arriving frequently, record the game version when diagnosing a problem and retest after updates. A setup that was necessary on the launch build may be unnecessary after a stability fix, while a new control change may require checking your Steam Input layout again.
Recommended setup sequence
- Update the game. Install the latest Truckful build and allow SteamOS to finish any pending compatibility work before judging performance. Check the patch notes if a control or stability problem began after an update.
- Launch with the default gamepad configuration. Do not begin by importing a community layout or changing several SteamOS controls at once. The default layout gives you a clean baseline and makes it easier to tell whether a problem belongs to Truckful or to a custom profile.
- Exercise every game mode. Test driving, packing cargo, menus, upgrades, and the map. Truckful’s input behavior can differ between gameplay and interface screens, so a layout that feels good while driving may still leave a menu action inconvenient.
- Verify the map command. Patch 1.0.3 documents TAB/Select as the map command. Press the Deck control corresponding to Select in the current layout and confirm that the map opens during ordinary gameplay.
- Check performance in a repeatable location. Drive the same route or perform the same delivery while watching for hitching, sustained slowdown, or controls that stop responding. Consistent comparisons are more useful than changing settings during unrelated scenes.
- Adjust one layer at a time. Change Truckful’s in-game quality level first. If the problem is input rather than frame rate, change only the per-game Steam Input layout. Leave SteamOS performance controls alone until you have identified what the game setting can solve.
- Retest after every update. Patch 1.0.3 includes Deck/SteamOS stability work and the documented map-access change, so an earlier workaround may no longer be necessary.
Separate the three adjustment layers
There are three different places where a Deck owner might try to fix an experience: Truckful’s own graphics options, Steam Input’s controller layout, and SteamOS performance controls. They solve different problems. The game’s quality setting changes the workload Truckful is asking the hardware to render. Steam Input changes how button presses and sticks are presented to the game. SteamOS controls can affect the device globally or at a system level, but no Truckful-specific numeric values have been published.
Use that separation as a diagnostic method. If the image stutters but every button responds, start with the in-game quality option. If steering works but a packing or menu action is difficult to reach, start with Steam Input. If you change all three at once, you lose the ability to identify which adjustment helped and may create a new problem while trying to solve the original one.

Valve’s Steamworks guidance recommends that developers save graphics settings per device. That is a recommendation to game developers, not an official Truckful preset for Steam Deck. It also does not mean a setting copied from another Deck or another game is appropriate for Truckful.
Truckful graphics settings: the safest performance approach
Begin with the game’s own quality option
The developer confirms that Truckful offers different quality levels, including lower options for Linux devices that struggle. Start at the default quality level after updating. If frame delivery is uneven, step down one quality level, repeat the same activity, and compare the result. This isolates the game’s graphics workload without introducing unrelated SteamOS variables.
If the lower level improves consistency, keep it. A stable lower setting is generally more useful for driving and cargo work than a higher preset that produces intermittent pauses. If it makes no practical difference, restore the previous level and investigate input, background activity, or a game-specific bug instead of continuing to lower image quality. Do not assume that the lowest option is automatically best; the developer has not published a setting-by-setting ranking for Steam Deck.

What has not been established as a Truckful preset
There is no published Truckful-specific recommendation for resolution, frame cap, refresh rate, TDP, GPU clock, or a particular SteamOS performance profile. Do not treat a generic Deck configuration as an official best setting. No reviewed source supplies a tested combination such as a fixed wattage plus a fixed cap, so any such numbers would be personal experimentation rather than a documented requirement.
Change only one performance variable at a time if you use SteamOS controls. For example, do not lower the in-game quality level, cap the frame rate, and reduce TDP in one step; you will not know which change helped or whether one caused new frame-time spikes. Return to the game’s default quality before testing another layer. Write down the previous value so you can reverse the experiment.
How to judge “60 fps” responsibly
The 6 October developer statement says 60 fps on high settings through most of its Steam Deck testing. “Through most” leaves room for scenes below that figure, and the statement does not provide a frame-time graph or a universal Deck model. Use the report to set expectations, not to demand a fixed number in every location. A short dip is different from persistent unevenness across an entire route.
The pre-launch estimate of 40–60 fps is useful context for why lower settings exist, but it is not a second performance guarantee. Compare your own repeatable route after each change. If the same activity remains uneven at a lower quality level, lowering more settings may not address an input, compatibility, or build-specific issue.
Steam Deck controls and Steam Input
Use the default gamepad layout first
Truckful supports gamepad input. Start without remapping so you can identify whether an action is genuinely missing or simply assigned to a button you have not tried. Check steering, acceleration and braking, cargo-packing actions, menu navigation, upgrades, and map access separately. A button can be available in one context and have a different function in another.

Remap only Truckful’s layout when necessary
When an action is hard to reach, open Truckful’s per-game Steam Input controller configuration from the game’s Steam Deck controls interface. Assign the uncomfortable action to a more accessible button or back-paddle, save the Truckful-specific layout, and immediately test it in the mode where the problem occurred. A per-game change avoids altering controls for unrelated titles.
Recheck all affected modes after a change. A button that works for driving may have a different context in packing, menus, or the map. Keep a small change log if you make several adjustments so you can undo the last change when a patch alters the default bindings. If a custom profile makes troubleshooting harder, return temporarily to the default layout and establish a fresh baseline.
Valve’s Steam Deck compatibility criteria cover controller functionality, input icons, on-screen keyboard behavior, display, seamless navigation, and Proton support. They are useful checks for a handheld game, but the available Truckful information does not establish that every action is optimally mapped or that the title currently carries a particular Valve badge.

Patch 1.0.2 documents a simple keyboard remapping file created after first run at %USERPROFILE%\AppData\LocalLow\MythicOwl\Truckful\keyboard.txt. That is a Windows path. It is not evidence of a Deck-native remapping menu or a SteamOS configuration file, so do not tell Deck users to follow it as-is. Use Steam Input for controller changes and the game’s own interface for any controls it exposes.

Truckful requirements versus Steam Deck reality

They are not a Deck-specific performance profile and do not prove that a particular Steam Deck model will hold a defined frame rate. The developer’s own Deck testing is the relevant source for the 60-fps claim, while the store table is useful for understanding the game’s published baseline requirements.

Do not read the requirements as a promise that a Deck with enough storage or memory will automatically match the developer’s result. PC requirement tables do not describe every Proton, SteamOS, scene, or frame-time condition. Use them as a basic compatibility reference, then rely on the current build and your repeatable test for actual setup decisions.

The map does not open
- Confirm Truckful is updated to a build that includes patch 1.0.3’s TAB/Select change.
- Try the Select command in the default layout before applying a custom Steam Input profile.
- If you remapped controls, open the Truckful-specific layout and check that Select or its replacement is still assigned.
- Test the map from normal gameplay rather than a menu or cargo interaction, then restart the game if the interface remains unresponsive.
An action works while driving but not while packing or navigating menus
- Return to the default layout temporarily to determine whether the issue is a custom binding.
- Test the same button in driving, packing, upgrades, and menus; Truckful does not have a published complete binding list for every mode.
- Make one per-game Steam Input change, save it, and retest the exact mode that failed.
- Check whether the issue began after a patch, since controller support and map behavior have changed across versions.
Performance is uneven despite high settings
- Repeat the same route or delivery so the comparison is meaningful.
- Lower Truckful’s quality setting one step and test again.
- Keep SteamOS frame-rate, TDP, refresh-rate, and resolution controls unchanged while evaluating the in-game setting.
- Install any available update and retest, since patch 1.0.3 includes Deck/SteamOS stability work.

The game runs acceptably but the image is too soft after lowering quality
Restore the previous quality level and test a different single adjustment only if you understand its effect. Because no official Truckful SteamOS combination has been published, choose the highest setting that remains consistently playable on your Deck rather than copying an unverified numeric profile.
Controls and performance both changed after an update
Record the new Truckful version, return briefly to the default gamepad layout, and test the same route and actions you used previously. Patch notes can explain a documented change, such as 1.0.3’s map command, but they do not provide a complete binding table or guarantee identical behavior in every mode. Rebuild only the remaps you still need after confirming the new baseline.

Valve says a title’s Deck compatibility rating is visible in the Steam library or store after review. Developer testing and a compatibility badge are separate things. Check Truckful’s live Steam listing for its current rating instead of inferring Verified status from the 6 October performance statement or from an individual player report.
Valve’s general Verified description means a game works great on Steam Deck right out of the box, but that description applies to the category itself. It does not establish that Truckful currently belongs to that category. A single positive user report can show that one person had a good experience, but it is not an independent benchmark and cannot establish performance across Deck hardware, scenes, or SteamOS versions.
A practical decision framework
- Controls feel natural and frame delivery is steady: keep the default gamepad layout and current quality level.
- Controls are awkward but performance is fine: edit only Truckful’s Steam Input layout, then test each affected game mode.
- Performance is uneven: lower the in-game quality level first and compare the same demanding activity.
- The image becomes too soft: restore the prior quality level and try no further changes until you have identified whether consistency or image clarity matters more for your route.
- A patch changed behavior: restore the default layout, confirm the new patch notes, and rebuild only the remaps you still need.
- You need a definitive compatibility answer: consult the live Steam listing for the current Valve rating; do not substitute developer testing for that status.
Bottom line
The most defensible Truckful Deck setup is deliberately conservative: update the game, start with default gamepad controls and in-game quality, verify TAB/Select map access, and change one setting at a time. MythicOwl’s 6 October 2026 report supports trying high quality first, but its 60-fps result is a developer test covering most of the game rather than a universal guarantee. Patch 1.0.3’s Deck stability work is a reason to update before troubleshooting, while Steam Input is the appropriate layer for per-game control fixes.
