Connect the DG310 to a compatible handheld with its fixed USB-C host cable, attach your HDMI display and accessories, then plug a separate USB-C Power Delivery charger into the dock. The handheld must support USB-C DisplayPort Alt Mode for video and USB Power Delivery for charging. For the dock’s maximum 80 W passthrough, ASUS recommends a 100 W-or-higher USB-C PD charger; the charger is not included.
What you need before connecting the DG310
The ROG Bulwark Dock DG310 is a one-cable expansion dock. Its fixed USB-C host lead carries display output, USB data and charging between the dock and handheld, but those functions depend on the handheld’s USB-C port. The port must support both USB-C DisplayPort Alt Mode and USB Power Delivery. A USB-C connector by itself does not guarantee either feature.
- ROG Bulwark Dock DG310, fixed 60 cm, 90-degree USB-C host cable, user manual and warranty card.
- A ROG Ally, Steam Deck or another handheld whose USB-C port supports DisplayPort Alt Mode and USB PD.
- One HDMI cable and a TV or monitor. HDMI 2.1 is the appropriate choice when you are targeting high refresh rates.
- A separate USB-C PD charger. ASUS recommends 100 W or more for up to 80 W of dock passthrough; no charger is supplied in the box.
- Optional USB peripherals, Ethernet cable and external USB storage.
Place the dock on a stable, ventilated surface. The 60 cm cable is permanently attached and exits at a 90-degree angle, so position the dock close enough that the plug reaches the handheld without a sharp bend or pull.

| Port or feature | Published specification | What it means during setup |
|---|---|---|
| USB-C host cable | Fixed 60 cm cable | Connects to the handheld and carries video, USB data and PD charging when the handheld supports the required standards. |
| HDMI output | HDMI 2.1; up to 3840×2160 at 144 Hz or 7680×4320 at 30 Hz, with HDR, VRR and ALLM support | One external TV or monitor can be connected. The handheld, HDMI cable and display can lower the available resolution or refresh rate. |
| USB-A ports | Three ports, 5 Gbps; two rated 5 V/0.9 A and one rated 5 V/1.5 A | Use for controllers, keyboard, mouse and storage. Put a higher-power accessory on the 1.5 A port when practical. |
| Ethernet | Gigabit Ethernet | Provides a wired network connection when an Ethernet cable is attached. |
| USB-C power input | USB PD input; up to 80 W passthrough with a suitable charger | Connect the handheld’s charger here, not directly to the dock’s host lead. A 100 W-or-higher PD charger is the practical choice for the maximum rating. |
| Physical size and weight | 181.6 x 86.6 x 31.6 mm; approximately 262 +/- 10 g | Allow room for the fixed cable and connected plugs when choosing a position. |
The 4K/144 Hz and 8K/30 Hz figures are output ceilings, not a guarantee that every handheld will render those modes. The handheld’s graphics hardware and USB-C implementation, the HDMI cable, the display’s input capabilities and the selected operating-system mode all affect the result.

Connect the DG310 to a ROG Ally
1. Position the dock and handheld
Set the dock flat on a stable surface and place the ROG Ally within the fixed cable’s reach. Keep the cable relaxed rather than suspending the dock from the handheld. Leave enough space to insert the HDMI, power, USB and Ethernet plugs without levering them sideways.
2. Connect the host cable
Insert the dock’s fixed USB-C host connector into the Ally’s USB-C port. This single connection is the link for external display, USB peripherals and charging. The Ally must expose DisplayPort Alt Mode and USB PD on that port; if either capability is absent, the corresponding dock function will not work.
3. Attach the display
Connect one end of an HDMI cable to the DG310’s HDMI 2.1 output and the other end to an HDMI input on the monitor or TV. Turn on the display and select that exact HDMI input. The DG310 has one HDMI output, so it supports one external display at a time.
4. Add peripherals
Connect a controller, keyboard, mouse or USB storage device to any of the three USB-A ports. They operate at 5 Gbps. Two ports provide up to 5 V/0.9 A, while one provides up to 5 V/1.5 A; use the 1.5 A port for an accessory that draws more current if you know which port has that rating on your unit.

5. Add wired networking if required
Plug an Ethernet cable into the dock’s Gigabit Ethernet port and the other end into your router or network switch. The wired adapter is available to the handheld after the host connection is active.
6. Connect power through the dock
Plug a USB-C PD charger into the DG310’s USB-C power input. ASUS recommends a charger rated at 100 W or higher to reach the dock’s maximum 80 W passthrough. The charger is not included, so reuse a suitable handheld charger or obtain a separate PD charger with the required rating. The dock then passes negotiated power to the Ally through the host connection.
7. Let the Ally detect the display
With the display on the correct input, the Ally should enumerate the external screen automatically. Open the operating system’s display settings to choose mirroring, extending or external-only output and to select a supported resolution and refresh rate. Start with a mode the monitor explicitly supports, then increase refresh rate or resolution if the option appears.

- Place the DG310 so the fixed 60 cm cable reaches the Deck without tension.
- Connect the HDMI cable to the dock and to one display input. Turn on the display and select that input.
- Attach USB peripherals and, if needed, the Ethernet cable.
- Connect a USB-C PD charger to the dock’s power input. Steam Deck docking requires USB-C Power Delivery passthrough for charging. The DG310’s maximum passthrough is up to 80 W with a suitable source; ASUS recommends 100 W or more for that ceiling.
- After the display, peripherals and power are in place, connect the DG310’s fixed USB-C host cable to the Steam Deck.
- Wait for SteamOS to enumerate the dock and display. In Settings, open Display and choose the external-screen arrangement, resolution and refresh rate offered by the Deck and monitor.
Valve also advises verifying that the device port supports display functions such as DisplayPort Alt Mode. If the Deck charges but the monitor remains blank, charging alone does not prove that video Alt Mode is available; continue with the display checks below.
Set resolution, refresh rate, HDR and VRR
Understand the HDMI 2.1 ceiling
ASUS rates the DG310’s HDMI output for up to 3840×2160 at 144 Hz or 7680×4320 at 30 Hz, along with HDR, variable refresh rate and automatic low-latency mode. These are dock output limits under compatible conditions. They do not force a handheld to generate 4K at 144 frames per second, and they do not override a display’s input limit.
Use a complete high-bandwidth path
For 4K at 120 or 144 Hz, use an HDMI 2.1-capable cable and a display input that supports the requested mode. Some televisions expose their highest bandwidth only on a labeled port or after an input setting such as enhanced mode is enabled. If the handheld offers only lower modes, select the highest stable option rather than forcing an unsupported timing.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Check each variable when a mode is missing
- Confirm the monitor or TV specification for the exact HDMI input in use.
- Try a known-good HDMI 2.1 cable of appropriate length.
- Update the handheld’s operating system and graphics components through its normal update process.
- Test a lower resolution or refresh rate. If 1080p or 60 Hz works while 4K/144 Hz does not, the link is functioning and the limitation is bandwidth, capability or configuration rather than basic host detection.
- Enable HDR or VRR only after a stable picture is established; these features can change the modes the display advertises.
How charging through the DG310 works
The charger connects to the dock, and the dock negotiates USB Power Delivery with the handheld over the host cable. The published maximum passthrough is up to 80 W. Reaching that figure requires an adequate PD source and compatible negotiation by the handheld; it is not the same as the charger’s printed wattage being delivered unchanged to the console.

- Please Note: To reach 10Gbps speed, keep the cable under 3.3 ft. For USB A Male to USB C adapters, try flipping the USB C connector. USB C Male to USB A adapters support bidirectional 10Gbps transfer within 3.3 ft
Because no charger is included, check the output profile of the charger you plan to use. A 100 W-or-higher USB-C PD unit is ASUS’s recommendation for the full 80 W dock output. A lower-rated or incompatible charger may still power the setup, but the handheld can show slower charging, a reduced performance mode or no charging under heavy load.
Do not connect the charger’s USB-C plug to the fixed host lead. The host lead is for the handheld; the separate USB-C socket on the dock is the power input.
Use USB accessories and Ethernet without overloading the dock
The three USB-A ports share the dock’s USB connection and are rated for 5 Gbps. That is sufficient for controllers, keyboards, mice and many storage devices, but it is not a promise that every drive will sustain its peak advertised speed through the handheld, operating system and shared hub.
- Use the 1.5 A USB-A port for a device that needs more bus power, such as a mechanically active accessory, when the port labeling identifies it.
- Connect low-power input devices before adding a bus-powered drive or capture device.
- If a storage device disconnects during demanding use, try the higher-current port, remove other bus-powered devices and verify that the charger is supplying adequate PD power.
- Gigabit Ethernet provides a wired network link, but actual throughput depends on the network, cable, router and the handheld’s software.
Troubleshoot a monitor that is not detected
| Symptom | Likely cause | Action |
|---|---|---|
| No picture and no external display listed | Loose host or HDMI connection, wrong display input, or missing DisplayPort Alt Mode | Power the display on, select the correct HDMI input, unplug and firmly reseat both plugs, then verify that the handheld’s USB-C port supports DP Alt Mode. |
| Handheld charges but screen stays blank | USB PD is present but video Alt Mode is unavailable or the display link has failed | Check DP Alt Mode support separately, test another HDMI cable or display input, and try a lower resolution. |
| Picture appears only at 60 Hz | Display input, HDMI cable, handheld mode or operating-system setting limits bandwidth | Use an HDMI 2.1 cable and compatible input, then select a supported higher refresh rate in display settings. Confirm that the handheld can output the requested mode. |
| 4K/144 Hz option is missing | One element in the chain advertises a lower limit | Check the monitor’s exact input specification, cable capability and the handheld’s output modes. Test 4K/120 Hz or a lower resolution to identify the limiting element. |
| Peripherals do not appear | Host link not enumerated, insufficient power or a bad USB device/cable | Disconnect USB devices, reconnect the host cable, then add peripherals one at a time. Move a higher-draw device to the 1.5 A port and confirm that the dock has a suitable PD charger. |
| Ethernet is absent | Host connection or operating-system enumeration issue | Reconnect the host cable, reseat Ethernet, try another network cable and check the handheld’s network settings after the dock is recognized. |
| Dock or cable feels strained | The fixed 60 cm, 90-degree cable is being bent or used as a support | Move the dock closer, support the handheld independently and keep the cable’s bend radius gentle. |
A reliable reset sequence
- Turn off or put the handheld to sleep and switch the display to standby.
- Disconnect the fixed host cable from the handheld.
- Remove HDMI and USB accessories, leaving the charger connected to the dock.
- Reconnect HDMI to the dock and select the matching display input.
- Reconnect the host cable to the handheld and wait for enumeration.
- Add USB devices and Ethernet one at a time, checking after each connection.
This sequence separates a basic link problem from a peripheral or power problem. If another HDMI display works, the original display’s input or mode is the likely constraint. If no display works on a host known to support DP Alt Mode, inspect the cable and connectors and check for operating-system updates.

Physical fit, cable reach and box contents
The DG310 measures 181.6 x 86.6 x 31.6 mm and weighs approximately 262 +/- 10 g. Its fixed 60 cm cable cannot be replaced with a longer host lead, so the dock’s location matters more than with a dock that uses a detachable cable. Keep the dock on the same surface as the handheld when possible, especially if several USB or HDMI cables are attached.
ASUS lists the box contents as the DG310, user manual and warranty card. A USB-C charger is not included. Plan for that separately before attempting a full charging-and-display setup.
Use the right comparison points when choosing another dock
If you are deciding whether the DG310 suits a different handheld or comparing it with another dock, evaluate the functions that determine the actual setup rather than counting connectors alone.
