Set up the Razer Basilisk V4 Pro by first checking that its right-handed shape and thumb rest feel comfortable, then use Razer Synapse to assign reachable buttons, choose a scroll behavior, and tune sensitivity for your games and everyday work. There is no universally best grip profile or DPI value: treat each setting as a personal starting point and adjust it based on comfort and control.
Start with comfort and reach
Razer describes the Basilisk V4 Pro as a right-handed ergonomic wireless gaming mouse with a signature thumb rest. That description does not establish which hand sizes it fits or whether it suits palm, claw, or fingertip grips best. Try your natural grip before changing settings: your thumb should rest comfortably, and the controls you plan to use often should be reachable without straining or shifting your hand awkwardly.
If a button feels inconvenient to reach, assign its action elsewhere rather than forcing your grip around the layout. Comfort is a better basis for your setup than a grip label alone.
Configure buttons in Razer Synapse
Razer Synapse is the configuration hub for the mouse’s button mappings, macros, scroll modes, Hypershift functions, DPI settings, and Chroma RGB lighting. Razer lists 14 customizable controls. Start with the actions you use most, and make the layout easy to remember.
#1 Best Overall
- IMMERSIVE CONTROL & SMART SCROLLING – Adapt every action to your workflow or gameplay with Razer HyperScroll Tilt Wheel Gen-2 featuring 24-step and 48-step tactile modes, free-spin scrolling, and Smart-Reel auto switching for gaming, productivity, and content creation
- PIXEL-PERFECT PRECISION FOR COMPETITIVE PLAY – Dominate FPS, battle royale, MOBA, and action games with the Focus Pro 50K Optical Sensor Gen-3 featuring 50,000 DPI, 930 IPS, 90G acceleration, and Frame Sync for ultra-low latency tracking
- LONG-LASTING WIRELESS PERFORMANCE – Play longer without interruptions with up to 200 hours of battery life at 1000Hz and ultra-responsive 8000Hz polling in both wired and HyperSpeed Wireless Gen-2 modes for esports-level responsiveness
- COMPLETE COMMAND AT YOUR FINGERTIPS – Execute advanced macros, push-to-talk commands, weapon swaps, profile cycling, and productivity shortcuts with 14 customizable controls including a multi-function trigger, M1 edge button, and 3 side buttons
- CUSTOMIZE YOUR DESKTOP EXPERIENCE – Personalize every session with 7-zone Razer Chroma RGB underglow, 16.8 million colors, dynamic lighting effects, and immersive game integrations across 300+ Chroma-enabled titles
- Install and open Razer Synapse, then select the Basilisk V4 Pro.
- Open the button customization controls and assign frequently used actions to buttons you can reach comfortably.
- Keep essential game or work commands on easy-to-reach controls; put less frequent actions on buttons that take more movement to reach.
- If you want additional commands, configure Hypershift as a secondary layer and choose a modifier you can hold comfortably while pressing another button.
- Use the layout in your normal tasks, then revise mappings that are awkward, easy to trigger by mistake, or hard to remember.
These steps are a practical way to build a personal layout, not a manufacturer-tested button profile. You can also set up macros in Synapse for actions you want to trigger with a button, but keep your assignments suited to the applications and games you actually use.
Choose a scroll mode for the task
The HyperScroll Tilt Wheel Gen-2 offers distinct stepped scrolling and continuous free-spin, with Smart-Reel available to switch between tactile and free-spin behavior automatically according to scroll speed. Try the modes in the menus, documents, and games where you scroll most.

| Mode | What it does | Useful starting point |
|---|---|---|
| Tactile Mode | 24-step scrolling, with distinct steps. | Choose it when you prefer deliberate, controlled increments. |
| Precision Tactile Mode | 48-step scrolling, offering a finer stepped option. | Try it when you want more granular stepped scrolling. |
| Free-spin Mode | Continuous scrolling for faster movement through content. | Try it for long pages or lists where rapid scrolling is useful. |
| Smart-Reel | Automatically switches between tactile and free-spin according to scroll speed. | Try it if you move between short, controlled scrolls and faster scrolling. |
Razer lists five Smart-Reel responsiveness levels in Synapse and five scroll acceleration levels. Change these only if the default behavior does not feel right for your scrolling habits.
Set sensitivity for your own control
Razer lists a Focus Pro 50K Optical Sensor Gen-3 with up to 50,000 DPI and adjustment in 1-DPI steps. Those figures describe available capability, not a recommended target. DPI preference depends on your comfort, game or application settings, and how much pointer movement you want from a hand movement; the product information does not establish an optimal value or a profile by grip type.

- CHARGE STATUS AT A GLANCE – Easily monitor battery levels through color-coded lighting indicators that show low, medium, and full charge status without opening software or interrupting gameplay
Use Synapse’s DPI controls to choose a value that feels controllable in your usual games and desktop work, then adjust it in small increments if the pointer feels too slow or too fast. The product also lists Dynamic Sensitivity, Sensitivity Matcher, Smart Tracking, Rotation Tool, and Asymmetric Cut-off. These provide further ways to adjust sensitivity and tracking; choose only the features that address a need you notice rather than enabling every option by default. See Razer’s Basilisk V4 Pro product page for its stated feature set.
Decide whether to use Perfect 180
The mouse includes a multi-function trigger and Perfect 180. Razer describes Perfect 180 as a customizable instant 180-degree turn intended for low-sensitivity FPS play. Its behavior depends on in-game sensitivity and Synapse’s total count settings, so it is an optional control to test in a suitable game—not a guaranteed competitive advantage. If you try it, check that its turn behavior matches your own settings and that activating it feels comfortable.

Pick a connection for your devices
Razer lists HyperSpeed Wireless Gen-2, Bluetooth 6.2 with pairing for up to three devices, and wired mode. The product page describes up to five-device connectivity across these modes. Choose the connection that fits the device you are using and whether switching among paired devices matters to you; the listed options alone do not establish an independent latency comparison.
Understand charging and battery claims
Wireless charging is optional. Razer says it requires a separately purchased Razer Mouse Dock V2 Pro with puck or Razer HyperFlux V2; the product FAQ describes replacing the mouse cover puck and placing the mouse on the charging system. Check the product’s current regional availability and compatibility before buying an accessory. Ordinary wired or wireless mouse use does not require either wireless-charging accessory.

Make adjustments from actual use
Change one category at a time—button assignments, scroll behavior, or sensitivity—so you can tell whether a change helps. A comfortable grip, a small set of memorable mappings, and a scroll mode that fits your usual tasks are sensible places to begin; no published fit chart or independent grip comparison establishes one ideal setup for everyone. Razer’s October 8, 2026 launch announcement provides additional official product context.
