Connect the Apex Pro Mini Gen 3, let SteelSeries GG detect it in the Home tab, then open Engine to adjust actuation and Rapid Trigger. The keyboard’s OmniPoint 3.0 Hall Effect switches support actuation from 0.1 mm to 4.0 mm, and Rapid Trigger can be configured separately for individual keys. Start with a setting that feels controllable, change it in small steps, and test in the game or application where you will use it. SteelSeries does not publish one universally best value.
What the Apex Pro Mini Gen 3 settings control
The Apex Pro Mini Gen 3 uses OmniPoint 3.0 adjustable Hall Effect switches. Two controls matter for this setup:
- Actuation depth determines how far a key must move before the keyboard registers a press. The official adjustment range is 0.1 mm to 4.0 mm.
- Rapid Trigger changes how a key resets and activates. Instead of waiting for one fixed reset point, the key can reset as soon as it begins moving upward and activate again as it moves downward.
These controls are independent. You can choose an actuation depth for a key and then enable or disable Rapid Trigger for that key. Rapid Trigger is not a promise of a measured speed increase; SteelSeries publishes the mechanism and adjustment capability, not a controlled performance advantage for a particular number.
| Control | What Gen 3 supports | Where it is configured | Practical meaning |
|---|---|---|---|
| Actuation | 0.1–4.0 mm | SteelSeries GG > Engine | Choose earlier, lighter activation or deeper, more deliberate activation. |
| Rapid Trigger | Adjustable per key | SteelSeries GG > Engine | Keys can react to movement during release and re-press rather than one fixed reset point. |
| Rapid Trigger shortcut | SteelSeries key + T | Keyboard shortcut | Toggle Rapid Trigger on or off using SteelSeries’ general Apex Pro support instruction. |
| QuickSet | Presets for compatible Apex Pro models | SteelSeries GG | Use a game preset as a starting point, then verify and tune it in Engine. |
Before you start
You need the Apex Pro Mini Gen 3, its detachable USB-C cable, a computer running SteelSeries GG, and the game or application in which you intend to test the settings. The included cable is sufficient for this setup; the configuration instructions do not establish a need for a replacement cable or other hardware.

Install or open the current SteelSeries GG application before changing settings. Software labels and preset availability can change, so the names below follow the documented GG workflow rather than promising that every screen will look identical over time.
Step-by-step: connect the keyboard and open Engine
- Connect the keyboard. Plug the detachable USB-C cable into the Apex Pro Mini Gen 3 and the computer. Wait for the keyboard to initialize.
- Open SteelSeries GG. In the Home tab, a connected keyboard should be detected automatically.
- Select the Apex Pro Mini Gen 3. Open the device entry that GG displays for the keyboard.
- Open Engine. Engine is SteelSeries’ configuration area for actuation settings and key remapping. Remapping is not required for Rapid Trigger, but Engine is where the relevant per-key controls live.
- Choose the keys to tune. Work on the keys that matter to your game or workflow instead of changing every key immediately. This makes it easier to identify which setting caused a change in behavior.
If the device does not appear in Home, close and reopen GG, unplug and reconnect the cable, and try another direct USB port. If detection still fails, confirm that the keyboard is the device selected in GG before changing any settings. Do not assume that an OLED menu instruction for another Apex Pro size applies to the Mini.
Set actuation depth in Engine
In Engine, select the actuation control for the key or keys you want to adjust. The Gen 3 allows a value anywhere from 0.1 mm to 4.0 mm.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsHow the range feels
- Near 0.1 mm: A key can register with very little movement. This can feel immediate, but a light touch, finger repositioning, or resting pressure is more likely to produce an unintended input.
- Near 4.0 mm: The key requires substantially more travel before activation. That can feel more deliberate and can reduce accidental activation caused by light contact, at the cost of requiring a deeper press.
- Between the endpoints: An intermediate value lets you trade sensitivity for control without choosing either extreme.
The 0.1–4.0 mm figures are the advertised adjustment limits, not recommended targets. SteelSeries does not state a universally best actuation number for all players, games, or typing styles.
A reliable tuning method
- Pick one key or a small group of related keys.
- Set an initial value within the 0.1–4.0 mm range.
- Use the keyboard normally for a short test: press the key repeatedly, release it slowly, and rest your fingers in the position you use during play or typing.
- If the key activates too easily, increase the actuation depth slightly. If it feels too slow or requires more travel than you want, decrease it slightly.
- Repeat in small increments until the key registers consistently without accidental presses.
Changing one variable at a time is important. If you alter actuation and Rapid Trigger simultaneously on several keys, you will not know which change produced an unwanted input or an improved feel.

Configure Rapid Trigger for selected keys
Rapid Trigger is configurable per key on the Apex Pro Mini Gen 3. Select a key in Engine and enable its Rapid Trigger control, then repeat for the keys that need dynamic reset behavior. You do not have to apply it to the entire keyboard.
What Rapid Trigger changes
In a conventional fixed-reset design, a key activates at one point and must return to a predetermined reset point before another press can register. SteelSeries describes Rapid Trigger differently: when you press a key, it becomes active and remains active until you begin lifting your finger. As the key starts rising, it can reset; moving down again can activate it without waiting for a separate fixed reset distance.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →This behavior is useful when you make quick repeated or opposing inputs, but it also makes the key more sensitive to small movements. A finger that is barely lifting, repositioning, or resting on the key can create an input sooner than expected. That is why per-key configuration matters: you can use Rapid Trigger on keys where fast release and reactivation are valuable while leaving other keys at a less sensitive configuration.
Apply and verify the setting
- In Engine, select the key you want to configure.
- Enable Rapid Trigger for that key.
- Keep the actuation depth visible while you test; Rapid Trigger and actuation affect different parts of the key’s behavior.
- Press and release the key slowly, then repeat it rapidly. Confirm that the key resets when you begin lifting and can activate again on the next downward movement.
- Repeat the test in the intended game or application. A setting that feels acceptable in a text editor may be too sensitive during gameplay, and vice versa.
Toggle Rapid Trigger with the keyboard shortcut
SteelSeries’ general Apex Pro support instruction is SteelSeries key + T to toggle Rapid Trigger on or off. Use the shortcut when you need to compare behavior quickly or temporarily disable Rapid Trigger while troubleshooting.
Some SteelSeries documentation shows an OLED menu path for toggling Rapid Trigger. Those directions apply to OLED-equipped TKL and full-size Apex Pro models. The Apex Pro Mini Gen 3 is a different form factor, so do not look for that OLED menu on the Mini or treat the TKL/full-size sequence as a required Mini setup step.

Use QuickSet without giving up manual control
QuickSet is SteelSeries’ preset library for compatible Apex Pro models. If GG offers a preset for your game and the Apex Pro Mini Gen 3, you can apply it as a starting point. Compatibility and the exact list of available presets depend on the software state and supported device.

- Confirm that the listed device is compatible with the Apex Pro Mini Gen 3.
- Apply the preset.
- Return to Engine and inspect the actuation and Rapid Trigger choices for the keys you care about.
- Test the preset in the real application. If it causes accidental inputs or does not match your muscle memory, adjust individual keys rather than assuming the preset is optimal.
A preset is a convenience, not a manufacturer-certified best value for every player. If QuickSet does not show the game or device, configure the keys manually in Engine; the absence of a preset does not remove the keyboard’s adjustment capability.
Build a practical per-key setup
The Mini’s compact layout makes it tempting to apply one setting everywhere. A more controlled approach is to classify keys by how you use them.
Frequently repeated movement or action keys
These are the keys where you may benefit most from testing Rapid Trigger. Start with a moderate actuation choice, enable Rapid Trigger on one key, and perform repeated presses and releases. Increase the actuation depth if resting or sliding your finger across the key creates inputs.
Keys used for deliberate commands
For commands that should not fire from a light touch, use a deeper actuation setting and leave Rapid Trigger off until you have a reason to enable it. This creates a clearer physical threshold for the command.

Typing and general desktop use
Typing exposes accidental-input problems quickly. Type normally, use backspace and modifier combinations, and rest your hands on the keyboard as you normally would. If characters appear while your fingers are only contacting the keycaps, raise the actuation depth for those keys or disable Rapid Trigger on them.
Mixed configurations
There is no requirement for every key to share one actuation value or Rapid Trigger state. A mixed configuration is often easier to control: sensitive behavior on a few keys that need rapid reactivation, and deeper or conventional behavior on keys where accidental activation is costly.

GG does not detect the keyboard
- Check that the USB-C cable is fully seated at both ends.
- Reconnect the keyboard and restart GG.
- Try a different direct USB port, then reopen the Home tab.
- Make sure you selected the Apex Pro Mini Gen 3 device entry before opening Engine.
If the device is still absent, the problem is detection rather than an actuation value. Resolve detection first; Engine cannot apply per-key settings to a device GG has not recognized.
The key still feels like a fixed-reset switch
- Confirm that Rapid Trigger is enabled for the specific key you are testing. The feature is per key, so enabling it on one key does not automatically enable it on another.
- Check whether Rapid Trigger was toggled off with SteelSeries key + T.
- Test with a deliberate slow release followed by a second press. Rapid Trigger responds to movement during release, not merely to the fact that the key was pressed once.
You are getting accidental inputs
Accidental inputs are a sign that the current combination is too sensitive for the way you are using that key. Increase the actuation depth in small steps, disable Rapid Trigger on that key, or both. Test while resting your fingers and while making the movements that previously caused the problem.
Recommended Free Tools
The key requires too much travel
Lower the actuation value gradually from the current setting. Do not jump straight to the minimum unless you have tested whether that level is controllable for your hand position and application.

A QuickSet preset is missing
QuickSet only lists presets for compatible models and software-supported games. If no suitable preset appears, use Engine to configure the keys manually. Preset availability can change as GG is updated.
You followed an OLED tutorial and cannot find the controls
Check whether the tutorial is for a TKL or full-size OLED-equipped Apex Pro. SteelSeries documents an OLED menu route for those variants, while the Mini workflow uses GG, Engine, and the SteelSeries key + T shortcut.
Test before committing to a configuration
- Test each changed key slowly, quickly, and with a partial release.
- Type a paragraph to expose unintended activations and modifier problems.
- Run the game or application in which the setting matters most.
- Repeat the movements that previously caused missed or accidental inputs.
- Change only one setting at a time and record which key changed.
- Use SteelSeries key + T to compare Rapid Trigger on and off when you are unsure whether it is helping.
Keep in mind that the keyboard’s advertised range describes what can be selected, not what will feel identical across users. Finger pressure, key technique, and the application’s input handling all affect the result.
What is established—and what is not
SteelSeries establishes that the Apex Pro Mini Gen 3 has OmniPoint 3.0 adjustable Hall Effect switches, 0.1–4.0 mm actuation adjustment, per-key Rapid Trigger configuration, GG detection in Home, Engine controls, and QuickSet presets for compatible models. SteelSeries does not publish a universal best actuation depth, a universal best Rapid Trigger setting, or an independently measured speed statistic for a particular configuration. Treat recommendations as a tuning process rather than a claim that one number is correct for everyone.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I use Rapid Trigger on only one key?
Yes. The Apex Pro Mini Gen 3 supports per-key Rapid Trigger adjustment, so you can enable it on selected keys and leave it off elsewhere.
What is the correct actuation range for the Gen 3 Mini?
SteelSeries advertises an adjustment range of 0.1 mm to 4.0 mm. Those are the available limits, not a universal recommendation.
Does the Mini use the OLED menu instructions shown for larger Apex Pro keyboards?
No. The OLED menu directions are for OLED-equipped TKL and full-size variants. Configure the Mini in GG and Engine, and use SteelSeries key + T for the documented shortcut.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
Why does Rapid Trigger cause unintended presses?
Rapid Trigger responds to movement as a key rises and falls, so very light contact or finger repositioning can register sooner. Increase actuation depth, disable Rapid Trigger for that key, or tune both gradually.
