SKYBOX VR is a video player, not a VR game. This guide covers the Steam PC edition: it plays video on a VR headset through a SteamVR-compatible PC. Check your headset and PC before installing; the Steam listing’s compatibility names and system requirements are vendor-published information, not a current exhaustive compatibility guide.
What the Steam edition does
The Steam product page describes SKYBOX VR Video Player as software for watching 2D, 3D, 180-degree and 360-degree video in VR, including theater mode. It lists MP4, AVI and MOV support, side-by-side and over-under 3D formats, and automatic recognition of video type. These are advertised capabilities, not a guarantee that every file or codec will play.
The listing also advertises 4K playback from local files and streaming. It gives a release date of October 24, 2017; that date does not establish present-day headset compatibility. See the SKYBOX VR Video Player Steam listing for the product details.

Headset and SteamVR
Steam labels the app VR-only and lists SteamVR support. The page names Oculus Rift, Vive and Microsoft Mixed Reality, but it is not an up-to-date, exhaustive compatibility matrix. Confirm that your exact headset model and current software setup work with SteamVR before buying or installing. The listing does not establish current standalone Quest installation steps or compatibility.

PC requirements listed by Steam
The following figures are the vendor-published minimum and recommended configurations on the Steam listing, not independently tested performance benchmarks.
| Requirement | Minimum | Recommended |
|---|---|---|
| Processor | Intel i3-6100, AMD Ryzen 3 1200, or FX4350 or greater | Intel i5-4590, AMD Ryzen 5 1500X or greater |
| Memory | 8 GB RAM | 8 GB RAM |
| Graphics | NVIDIA GTX 960 or AMD Radeon R9 290 or greater | NVIDIA GTX 1060 or AMD Radeon RX 480 or greater |
| Operating system | 64-bit processor and OS; listing specifies Windows 7 SP1 | 64-bit OS; listing specifies Windows 8.1 |
| Other | DirectX 11, broadband internet, 10 GB available storage | DirectX 11, broadband internet, 10 GB available storage |
The operating-system wording needs particular care: although the listing retains Windows 7 SP1 as its minimum and Windows 8.1 as recommended, it also says the Steam Client supports Windows 10 and later from January 1, 2024. The older OS entries therefore do not guarantee that the current Steam Client will run on those systems.

- Complete headset and SteamVR setup. Follow the current prompts for your headset and SteamVR. The available product information does not specify controller menus or a universal controller setup sequence.
- Open SKYBOX and choose a playback source. Use a local video or, if you have one configured, a UPnP/DLNA media server on the same Wi-Fi network.
Choose local playback or same-Wi-Fi streaming
Local files
SKYBOX lists local video playback. A media server is not required for this route; use a video file available to the playback setup and check the current app guidance if the file does not play.
UPnP/DLNA streaming
The Steam listing describes streaming from a UPnP/DLNA media server on the same Wi-Fi. Ensure the playback path can reach that server on the network, and consult the current server and app instructions for configuration. The listing does not specify a router model, minimum bandwidth, server setup sequence or troubleshooting procedure, so it does not support a particular network-speed recommendation.
