To set up Samsung Wallet, first confirm it is available for your Galaxy phone and country. Then open the app, follow its setup prompts, choose + and Payment cards, enter or scan your card, and complete the verification steps provided by your card issuer. You need an internet connection to add a card, and successful enrollment depends on your device, region, card issuer, and the verification options available to you.
The key is to check the phone and card separately: a Galaxy phone that supports Wallet does not automatically make every bank card eligible, and a participating issuer does not make Wallet available on every Galaxy model or in every country. The steps below explain what to check, how enrollment works, what verification means, and what to try if setup or a payment does not go as expected.
Check that Samsung Wallet and your card are supported
Samsung Wallet is available only on supported Galaxy devices, and support is not identical in every country. Samsung’s Gulf support guidance, updated 21 September 2026, says availability can depend on your phone model, region, carrier, and firmware. Its regional requirements include Android 9 or later and installing Wallet from Galaxy Store, but those details apply to the markets covered by that guidance; they are not a universal compatibility rule.
Before starting, check Samsung’s support information for your country and look for Samsung Wallet in Galaxy Store on your phone. Samsung’s Developer country and device availability page, accessed 13 October 2026, also cautions that device support can vary slightly across markets. Use the local information for your country and exact phone model rather than treating a list for another market as definitive. If Wallet is not listed or cannot be installed, do not assume that downloading it from another region will make your phone eligible.

Also confirm that your card issuer supports adding your particular credit or debit card to Wallet. A compatible phone alone does not guarantee that a given card can be enrolled. A bank may support some of its cards but not another card type, and the issuer determines the verification options it will offer. Check with the card provider if its participation or your specific card’s eligibility is unclear.
- Phone and software: Check the exact Galaxy model, Android version, firmware, and carrier support for your market.
- Country: Check local availability rather than relying on a device list for another region.
- Card: Confirm that the bank or card provider participates and supports the card you want to add.
- Internet: Have an active internet connection available when you enroll the card; Samsung says one is required to add a card.
These are separate checks, not a shopping list. The setup process does not require buying an accessory, and it cannot make an unsupported phone, region, or card eligible. If all the checks appear to pass but enrollment fails, the issuer is the right contact for card eligibility and verification questions.
Set up Samsung Wallet and add your first card
Keep the physical card available while enrolling so you can check the requested information. Samsung UK’s setup guidance, updated 3 December 2025, says Wallet can scan a card with the phone camera or let you enter its details manually. The app may request the card number, expiration date, CVV, and cardholder name; the exact information depends on your country and card provider. Enter card information only in the Wallet app—do not send or share it with another person.
The app’s screens and labels can differ by software version and market, so treat the names below as a guide to the flow rather than a guarantee that every screen will look identical. In particular, Samsung’s U.S. FAQ describes starting payment-card enrollment from Quick Access, while Samsung UK describes adding a further card from the main Wallet screen. If a label or button is in a different place, look for the in-app add-card control rather than repeating an earlier step.
- Connect to the internet. Wallet requires an active internet connection to add a card. If you are offline, connect before starting enrollment; a card cannot be added while that requirement is unmet.
- Open Samsung Wallet. Complete any on-screen app setup or prompts. The precise screens and labels can vary by app version and market, so follow what your phone displays.
- Start card enrollment. In Samsung’s U.S. instructions, open Quick Access, tap the plus icon, and choose Payment cards. If your screen differs, use the equivalent add-card control in your version of Wallet.
- Scan or enter the card. Use the camera option if offered, or choose manual entry and fill in the requested details. Review what you typed before submitting it, especially if you used manual entry. Do not share a photo of the card or its details outside the Wallet enrollment flow.
- Accept any issuer terms and verify. Read and accept the card provider’s terms if prompted, then select one of the verification methods shown in the app. Your issuer determines which methods are available. Samsung UK notes that signing the card may also be requested, so complete that step if it appears.
- Wait for activation. The payment network and issuer activate the card after verification. Samsung’s U.S. FAQ, accessed 13 October 2026, gives an average of 5–10 minutes after any additional requirements have been met. That is a U.S. support estimate, not a guaranteed timeframe for every issuer or country.
If you have more than one eligible payment card, enroll and verify each one through its own prompts. Do not assume that because one card from an issuer worked, another card is eligible or will use exactly the same verification method. The issuer’s requirements apply to the individual card being added.

What to expect during verification
Verification is the card provider’s check that the card can be added to Wallet. The bank or card provider sets the method, so you may see different choices from someone using another card or living in another market. Wallet will display the available options for your card; follow those instructions and complete any extra requirement the app presents. There is no single verification route that can be promised for every issuer.
Samsung UK’s setup guidance says the app may ask you to accept the provider’s terms and notes that signing the card may also be requested. Treat those prompts as part of enrollment rather than as optional setup decoration. If a screen asks for a specific action, finish it before concluding that the card is stuck. Samsung’s U.S. activation estimate is stated to apply after any additional requirements have been met.
If none of the offered verification methods works, contact the issuer. Samsung UK’s instructions say the provider sets the verification method, and the provider can explain whether the card is eligible or what action is still needed. Samsung Wallet cannot substitute a different issuer-approved method if one is not offered in the app. Avoid repeatedly entering card details if Wallet reports a validation problem: check the information you entered, and ask the issuer if the details are correct but enrollment still fails.
Activation time is also distinct from entering the card information. Samsung’s U.S. FAQ describes an average 5–10 minutes after additional requirements are complete, but that estimate is not a service-level guarantee and should not be generalized to every region or issuer. If the app indicates that verification remains incomplete, resolve that step first. If the required checks are complete and the card still does not activate, the card provider can tell you whether it has finished its part.
Add another card after setup
Samsung UK says you can add another card by tapping the plus icon on Wallet’s main screen. Select the payment-card option and follow the same issuer-specific entry and verification process for that card. Depending on the app version and market, the control may be presented differently, but the basic sequence remains to start a new payment-card enrollment, scan or enter the requested information, and complete the issuer’s terms and verification steps.

Each card must meet the eligibility requirements on its own. Before trying to add another card, confirm that its issuer and card type are supported in your country. Then follow the verification methods Wallet actually displays for that card. If one card is activated and another is rejected, that does not by itself show that the phone is faulty; the cards may have different eligibility or issuer verification requirements.

After activation, use the payment flow presented by Wallet and authenticate as requested. Samsung says transactions use a random token instead of the actual card number and describes authentication by PIN or biometrics, alongside Knox protections. Those are Samsung’s descriptions of its security approach, not an independent security certification. Keep in mind that the card still follows the issuer’s terms; using Wallet does not change those terms.
If an in-store payment does not register, remove a thick third-party phone case and try again. Samsung says a thick case can obstruct communication with the payment terminal. This is a troubleshooting step, not a reason to buy a different case or accessory: first test the phone without the case. If the tap still fails, check whether the card has completed activation and whether the phone supports the payment method used by that terminal.
Samsung’s U.S. FAQ describes supported devices as potentially using NFC and MST, but that does not mean every Galaxy phone supports both technologies. Support depends on the device, and a payment terminal may not support every method. Do not infer that your phone has MST just because another Galaxy model does, or that a failed tap proves the card was not added correctly. Check the exact phone’s support information and try the payment method available at the terminal.
Use a card abroad: guidance for U.S. cardholders
Samsung’s U.S. guidance, accessed 13 October 2026, says a U.S. Samsung Wallet card should work abroad wherever the physical card is accepted. The card issuer’s terms, exchange rates, and fees still apply. Samsung also says registering a card while outside the United States may require contacting the issuer. This advice is specific to Samsung’s U.S. guidance; check with your own issuer and local Samsung support if your card was issued elsewhere.

That distinction matters if you are traveling: a card already registered in Wallet and a card you are trying to enroll while abroad are not the same situation in the U.S. guidance. If adding a card during a trip does not work, contact the issuer about its enrollment requirements rather than assuming that local acceptance of the physical card guarantees successful Wallet registration. Likewise, using Wallet abroad does not remove foreign transaction costs or other issuer terms.
If Wallet or card enrollment is unavailable
- Wallet does not appear in Galaxy Store: Recheck support for your specific model and country, as well as the carrier and firmware requirements. Samsung’s device availability information warns that support varies by market. Samsung Gulf’s Android 9 or later and Galaxy Store guidance is regional, so verify the requirements that apply where you live.
- The card cannot be added: Check that the card issuer supports Wallet, that you entered the requested information correctly, and that the phone is online. Card details requested can vary by country and provider. If enrollment or verification still stalls, ask the issuer whether the card is eligible and what verification is required.
- The verification choice is unavailable or fails: Use the options shown in Wallet and contact the issuer if none works. The provider, not a universal Samsung setting, controls the verification methods for its card.
- The card is not active yet: Complete every in-app verification or signing step, then allow the issuer and payment network to activate it. The 5–10 minute average in Samsung’s U.S. FAQ is not a universal promise and is described after any additional requirements are met.
- A payment fails at the terminal: Remove a thick third-party case and try again. If the issue continues, check that your phone supports the payment method at that terminal and that the card is active.
- You are trying to register while traveling: Samsung’s U.S. guidance says a U.S. cardholder may need to contact the issuer to register a card outside the United States. Other issuers and markets may have different requirements, so ask your card provider.
There is no accessory purchase required to set up Wallet or add a payment card. If a case is obstructing a terminal connection, Samsung’s advice is to remove the thick case and retry. The deciding factors for setup are supported phone and region, participating card issuer, an internet connection, and completion of the verification that Wallet presents.
