Rowan is Rocket Money’s AI financial assistant for Premium+ members. Set it up from the Rocket Money app, connect your banks or cards through the Linked Accounts flow, and keep your login details inside the secure bank, Plaid, or Akoya window. Rowan then communicates by text messaging or RCS; it is not a separate app.
What Rowan is—and what it is not
Rowan is an AI assistant built into Rocket Money’s Premium+ experience. You do not download a Rowan application or create a second Rowan account. Your Rocket Money account, connected financial institutions, and phone messaging channel provide the context it uses.
Depending on the accounts and transactions available to Rocket Money, Rowan can answer spending questions, organize eligible transactions, review budgets, monitor recurring charges, and guide eligible subscription or bill actions. It may text questions, insights, alerts, or requests for confirmation.

Rowan is not an unrestricted banking agent. Rocket Money says that Rowan requires both your direction and authorization before taking an action on your behalf. The company also advises checking important details because an AI system can make mistakes. Treat a proposed cancellation, negotiation, transfer-related step, or other money-related action as a draft until you have verified the target account, amount, date, and terms.

Rocket Money’s 2026 product page says the service connects more than 5 million accounts. That is a company-reported figure, not an independent measurement of Rowan’s coverage or accuracy.
What you need before starting
- A Rocket Money account that you can create or sign in to.
- Access to the Rocket Money mobile app for the Premium+ Rowan experience.
- The bank or card institution you want to connect, plus the credentials and verification methods that institution requires.
- Time to complete any security questions, multi-factor authentication (MFA), updated terms, or notices shown by the institution.
Premium+ is the plan that includes Rowan. The official material does not establish a current price in every region, so check the plan details displayed in your Rocket Money account before subscribing.
Set up Rowan and connect an account
1. Create or sign in to Rocket Money
Open Rocket Money and create an account or sign in to an existing one. If you have Premium+, open the Rowan experience from within Rocket Money. Rowan is activated through that product flow rather than installed separately.
2. Open Linked Accounts
- In Rocket Money, tap the Settings gear icon.
- Choose Linked Accounts.
- Select the bank or card institution you want to add and continue.
Check the institution name and the account type before approving anything. Large financial groups can have similarly named subsidiaries or separate entries for checking, savings, credit cards, and investment products.

3. Complete the secure provider flow
The connection screen will hand you to the institution’s secure sign-in process or to the connection provider presented by Rocket Money. Enter your credentials only in the bank, Plaid, or Akoya interface shown there—not in a message, email, or an unrelated web page.
Follow the prompts for MFA, security questions, consent, and account selection. Read the list of accounts and permissions before authorizing. When the provider reports success, return to Rocket Money and confirm that the intended account appears under Linked Accounts.
4. Add a missing sub-account that uses the same login
A bank may expose several accounts under one username. If one is missing after the initial connection:
- Open Settings → Linked Accounts.
- Select the connected bank.
- Tap Add Account.
- Continue through the provider flow and authorize the missing sub-account for Plaid.
This is for another account at the same institution that uses the existing login. Verify the account name and type before completing authorization.

5. Add an institution that uses different credentials
If the missing account belongs to a different institution or requires a different username, choose Add Institution and connect it as a separate institution. Do not try to force a second institution through the first institution’s saved connection.
6. Confirm that Rowan has usable data
After the connection completes, check the account list and recent transactions in Rocket Money. Rowan can use only the account and transaction information that Rocket Money has successfully received. Once data is available, expect Rowan to communicate through text messaging or RCS with questions, insights, alerts, or confirmation requests.
How the account connection protects your login
Rocket Money’s security messaging states, “We never see your bank password.” In practice, that means your credentials should be entered in the bank, Plaid, or Akoya interface supplied by the connection flow. Rocket Money says it uses secure tokens rather than storing your bank password in its own service.

Select only the institution and accounts you intend to use, and stop if the name, domain, or requested account list looks wrong.

Use Rowan with explicit approval controls
Read-only insight versus an action
Questions about spending, budgets, recurring charges, or transaction organization are informational or organizational uses of the data Rocket Money has collected. Subscription or bill assistance can involve a consequential action. Before approving such a request, inspect what Rowan proposes to do, which service or bill it concerns, the timing, and any amount or change in terms.
What Rowan can access
Rowan’s scope is limited to information available through your Rocket Money account and the financial accounts you have connected. A bank account that you never linked is outside that scope. Likewise, a transaction that has not yet been delivered by the institution is not something Rowan can reliably analyze.
What your authorization means
Rocket Money says Rowan waits for your direction and authorization before taking action. Authorization is not a substitute for review: confirm the details every time, particularly when the request could cancel a service, negotiate a bill, change a recurring charge, or otherwise affect your money.
Security controls and privacy choices
- Encryption in transit: Rocket Money describes TLS encryption for data moving between systems.
- Encryption at rest: Rocket Money describes 256-bit AES encryption for stored data.
- Credential handling: Rocket Money says it does not see or store your bank login credentials; keep them inside the secure provider window.
- Reversing access: You can unlink connected accounts to revoke the connection, or delete your Rocket Money account if you no longer want the service to retain that account relationship.
These are product security claims, not a guarantee that any online service is risk-free. Use a unique Rocket Money password, protect your email and phone account, and review account alerts from your financial institution.

Troubleshoot a failed connection

Why a balance may not be current
Rocket Money says linked accounts normally update about every 24 hours. That is an approximate cadence, not a promise that every bank posts data at the same time. Banks can delay pending transactions, card authorizations, deposits, or balance changes, and a manual sync can still return data that is not real time.
For a payment, cancellation, or other decision where the exact balance matters, verify the figure at the financial institution itself before authorizing Rowan to proceed.
Check these details before approving a Rowan request
- The institution and account shown in the request are the ones you intended to connect.
- The transaction, merchant, subscription, or bill matches your own records.
- Any amount, date, frequency, cancellation term, or negotiation outcome is correct.
- You understand whether Rowan is only explaining information or is asking permission to take an external action.
- The underlying bank or service still shows the same status if the request depends on a recent change.

A safe operating routine after setup
- Keep your bank credentials out of chats, emails, screenshots, and support messages. Use only the secure provider page during a connection.
- Review the Linked Accounts list periodically and remove institutions or sub-accounts you no longer need.
- Use Rowan for analysis only after the relevant transactions have arrived; check the bank directly when timing is critical.
- Read every confirmation request rather than approving from a notification preview.
- After a consequential action, verify the result with the affected bank, merchant, or biller.
With those controls in place, setup is straightforward: activate Premium+ Rowan in Rocket Money, connect each institution through Linked Accounts, resolve any bank-side verification tasks, and treat every action request as something you must inspect and approve.
