RayNeo GT Max glasses are a wired external display, not a standalone wireless screen. Connect the included USB-C cable directly to a phone, tablet, Mac, Windows laptop, or handheld whose USB-C port outputs DisplayPort video. For a PS5, Xbox, Switch dock, HDMI-only computer, or another HDMI source, add the RayNeo HDMI to Glasses and Charging Adapter. Lightning iPhones and iPads need Apple’s Lightning Digital AV Adapter before that RayNeo HDMI adapter.

The key check is video support: a USB-C socket can provide charging or data without carrying DisplayPort video. If the source cannot output DisplayPort over USB-C, a direct cable will not produce an image.

What you need for each type of source

Choose the connection based on the video output your device actually provides. The glasses receive video through USB-C; HDMI sources must be converted by the RayNeo adapter, which also provides the power path the glasses require.

Source Video output required Extra hardware Power considerations
USB-C phone, tablet, Mac, or Windows laptop USB-C DisplayPort Alt Mode or compatible Thunderbolt video Included USB-C cable The source normally powers the glasses; a charging adapter may be needed if the source has only one USB-C port
PS5, Xbox, or Switch dock HDMI RayNeo HDMI to Glasses and Charging Adapter plus the included USB-C cable Connect USB-C PD power to the RayNeo adapter; HDMI alone does not power the glasses
HDMI-only computer HDMI RayNeo HDMI to Glasses and Charging Adapter plus the included USB-C cable Use the adapter’s USB-C PD input
Lightning iPhone or iPad Lightning video through Apple’s digital AV adapter, then HDMI Apple Lightning Digital AV Adapter, RayNeo HDMI to Glasses and Charging Adapter, and the included USB-C cable Follow the adapter power instructions; the phone’s Lightning port does not connect directly to the glasses
Steam Deck or another USB-C handheld USB-C DisplayPort video Usually the included USB-C cable The handheld supplies power, so extended play may reduce its battery faster

Connect a USB-C phone, tablet, Mac, or Windows laptop

1. Confirm that the USB-C port carries video

Look up the exact device model’s specifications and confirm USB-C DisplayPort Alt Mode or a compatible Thunderbolt display output. Do not infer video support from the shape of the connector, a charging icon, or the fact that the port transfers files. RayNeo’s support documentation explicitly cautions that “A USB-C connector does not always support video output.”

If the port is charging-only or data-only, the glasses cannot be used through that port. Use an HDMI output with the RayNeo HDMI to Glasses and Charging Adapter instead, if the device has one.

2. Make the cable connection

  1. Turn on the phone, tablet, Mac, or Windows laptop and unlock it if required for external-display detection.
  2. Plug the included USB-C cable into the source’s video-capable USB-C port.
  3. Plug the other end into the RayNeo GT Max glasses.
  4. Wait several seconds for the source to detect the glasses as an external display. The source normally supplies both the video signal and operating power in this arrangement.

Use the included cable first. A third-party USB-C cable may support charging or USB data but omit the wiring needed for DisplayPort video.

3. Choose mirror or extended desktop mode

On Windows, open Settings > System > Display, select the detected external display, and choose Duplicate to show the same image or Extend to make the glasses a second desktop. Windows treats the glasses as a standard external display.

On macOS, open Apple menu > System Settings > Displays. Select the RayNeo display and choose mirroring or use it as an extended desktop. Arrange the display position if you use an extended desktop so the pointer moves in the direction you expect.

Phone and tablet behavior depends on the operating system and model. Some devices mirror automatically; others present a desktop-style interface or require an external-display setting. If nothing appears, return to the port check before changing software settings.

Keep a USB-C source charging while the glasses are connected

A laptop or phone with one USB-C port may need that port for both display output and charging. RayNeo lists a USB-C Charging Adapter for this situation. Connect the source to the adapter, connect USB-C power to the adapter as directed, and connect the adapter’s display output to the glasses with the included cable.

Check the adapter’s documented direction and power requirements before use. A generic USB-C hub is not automatically equivalent: it must pass DisplayPort video and provide the required charging path at the same time.

Connect a PS5, Xbox, Switch dock, or HDMI-only computer

1. Wire the HDMI video path

  1. Connect an HDMI cable from the console or computer’s HDMI output to the HDMI input on the RayNeo HDMI to Glasses and Charging Adapter.
  2. Connect the included USB-C cable from the adapter’s USB-C output to the GT Max glasses.
  3. Connect USB-C power to the adapter’s USB-C PD power input as directed by RayNeo.
  4. Turn on the source and the glasses. Select the HDMI input or display output on the source if it does not switch automatically.

The adapter is essential because the glasses use a USB-C display connection while these sources produce HDMI. HDMI carries the picture but does not provide the power the glasses need, so leaving the adapter’s PD input disconnected can result in a blank display.

2. Start with a conservative output mode

If the image is blank, set the console or computer to 1920×1080 at a standard refresh rate first. Once a picture is stable, try another mode only when both the source and adapter documentation indicate that it is supported. A mode that works on a television is not guaranteed to work through this adapter.

On a console, use its system display settings rather than changing several variables at once. After each change, allow the glasses a few seconds to resynchronize. Games may offer their own resolution or performance settings, but the console’s negotiated output mode remains the limiting factor.

3. Console-specific notes

  • PlayStation 5: Use the console’s HDMI output, the RayNeo HDMI adapter, the included USB-C cable, and USB-C PD power. Begin at 1080p if automatic detection produces no picture.
  • Xbox: Use the same HDMI-to-adapter-to-glasses chain and verify that the console is not forcing an unsupported display mode.
  • Nintendo Switch: Connect the Switch dock’s HDMI output, not the handheld’s USB-C port while it is undocked. The dock must be operating normally and the RayNeo adapter must have PD power.
  • HDMI-only computer: Connect the computer’s HDMI output to the adapter and select Duplicate or Extend in the computer’s display settings after the glasses are detected.

Connect a Lightning iPhone or iPad

Lightning Apple devices need two adapters because Lightning is not a direct USB-C DisplayPort output for the glasses. Use this exact chain:

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  1. Connect the Apple Lightning device to an Apple Lightning Digital AV Adapter.
  2. Connect an HDMI cable from the Apple adapter’s HDMI output to the HDMI input on the RayNeo HDMI to Glasses and Charging Adapter.
  3. Connect the included USB-C cable from the RayNeo adapter’s USB-C output to the GT Max glasses.
  4. Provide USB-C PD power to the RayNeo adapter as directed.
  5. Unlock the iPhone or iPad and start the video or app you want to display.

Both adapters must be present and connected in that order. A Lightning-to-USB-C charging cable, by itself, does not replace Apple’s digital AV adapter and will not create the required HDMI video path.

Use RayNeo GT Max with Steam Deck and other USB-C handhelds

Steam Deck’s USB-C port supports DisplayPort video, so a direct connection is possible: plug the included USB-C cable into the Steam Deck and the glasses. The Deck supplies power to the glasses, which means long sessions can draw down the handheld’s battery more quickly.

For another handheld, verify its exact USB-C video specification first. USB-C alone is not enough; the port must support DisplayPort output. If it does not, a USB-C-to-HDMI conversion route is only useful if the handheld can actually produce a compatible HDMI signal and the required adapter chain is available.

Resolution and refresh-rate expectations

RayNeo’s 2026 console guide lists a 1920×1080 panel, up to 120Hz in 2D mode, and 60Hz in 3D mode. Those are display capabilities, not a promise that every source or game will use them.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

The actual result is negotiated among the console or computer, the HDMI adapter, the selected output mode, and the game. A 120Hz panel does not turn a 60-frame-per-second game into a 120-frame-per-second game. Likewise, selecting a high refresh rate in an operating system cannot overcome a source, adapter, or title that is limited to a lower rate.

When troubleshooting, establish a picture at 1080p before testing higher refresh rates or other modes. Change one setting at a time so you can identify which mode is incompatible.

Troubleshoot a blank or unstable display

USB-C phone or computer shows nothing

  • Confirm that the specific USB-C port supports DisplayPort Alt Mode or compatible Thunderbolt video.
  • Try the device’s other USB-C port if it has more than one; manufacturers often give them different capabilities.
  • Disconnect docks and hubs temporarily and connect the included cable directly.
  • Reseat the USB-C plug at both the source and the glasses.
  • On Windows or macOS, open Display settings and check whether the glasses appear as an external monitor.

HDMI console or computer is blank

  • Reseat HDMI at both the source and the RayNeo adapter.
  • Reseat USB-C between the adapter and the glasses.
  • Connect USB-C PD power to the adapter; HDMI alone cannot power the glasses.
  • Set the source to 1080p as the first compatibility test.
  • Use the included USB-C cable rather than a third-party cable while diagnosing the connection.
  • Power-cycle the source and adapter after changing cables or output settings.

Lightning iPhone or iPad does not display

  • Verify that both the Apple Lightning Digital AV Adapter and RayNeo HDMI adapter are installed.
  • Check the order: Lightning device, Apple adapter, HDMI, RayNeo adapter, USB-C cable, glasses.
  • Ensure the RayNeo adapter has its required USB-C PD power.
  • Reseat every connector, then unlock the Apple device and retry.

The image appears but flickers or drops out

  • Return to 1920×1080 and a standard refresh rate.
  • Check that the source, adapter, and game are not requesting different unsupported modes.
  • Replace an unverified cable with the included cable.
  • Provide stable PD power to the HDMI adapter and avoid disconnecting power during use.

Connection decision checklist

  1. Is the source output USB-C DisplayPort video? If yes, connect the included cable directly.
  2. Is the source HDMI? Use the RayNeo HDMI to Glasses and Charging Adapter, the included USB-C cable, and USB-C PD power.
  3. Is the Apple device Lightning-based? Add Apple’s Lightning Digital AV Adapter before the RayNeo HDMI adapter.
  4. Does the source need to charge through its only USB-C port? Use the RayNeo USB-C Charging Adapter listed for simultaneous charging.
  5. Is the picture missing? Confirm video capability, reseat every connection, restore 1080p, and verify power before trying advanced display modes.
