To use audio on Ray-Ban Meta glasses, install the Meta AI app, sign in to a Meta account, enable Bluetooth on your phone, power on the glasses, and complete pairing from the app. The glasses have built-in open-ear speakers, so ordinary playback does not require separate earbuds or a speaker.
Ray-Ban documents two pairing triggers: holding the capture button on the frames or holding the button on the charging case. Use the method your model and the app prompt support. White indicates startup, solid green means the glasses are ready, and blue flashing indicates pairing mode.
The most reliable setup is a short, controlled sequence: charge first, keep the phone nearby, leave the Meta AI setup screen open, and wait for each indicator before moving on. If a previous phone connection is interfering, clear that connection before trying repeated pairings.

Keep the phone within easy reach of the glasses while setting them up. Ray-Ban’s connection guidance later recommends keeping the phone in front of you or in a front pocket, so that position is also a sensible starting point for pairing. Temporarily disconnect nearby watches, cars, speakers, or other Bluetooth accessories if your phone is already managing many connections.
The official setup information does not establish one universal compatibility table for every phone-operating-system version, region, glasses generation, and app release. If your phone or glasses are an unusual combination, check the current app-store listing and support instructions for that exact model before troubleshooting hardware. A missing menu or different prompt can reflect a software or model difference rather than a failed speaker.
First-unboxing preparation
New glasses may arrive with a plastic tab between the case and the glasses. Remove that tab, place the glasses back in the case, and wait for the case light to flash blue. This first dock can be part of the activation process and gives the case an opportunity to recognize the glasses before you start the app.

If the glasses are not new, check whether they were previously associated with another phone or Meta account. An old association can make the device appear absent even when it is powered on. On iOS, Ray-Ban specifically recommends forgetting an interfering Bluetooth pairing; the Android guidance does not require that step.
Turn on the glasses and read the lights
- Slide the power switch toward the lens and hold it until the notification LED blinks white.
- Release the switch. Startup may take up to one minute.
- Wait for the LED to become solid green. That indicates the glasses are ready for the next setup step.
Do not begin repeated pairing attempts during the white-blink period. The glasses are still starting, and the app may not discover them until startup is complete. Solid green is the useful checkpoint: it tells you to proceed to the pairing trigger rather than continuing to hold the power switch.
If the light never reaches the ready state, place the glasses in their case to charge, then try again. Pairing cannot complete reliably while the glasses are off or too low on power. Also confirm that the case itself has enough charge if you plan to use its button for pairing.
Put Ray-Ban Meta glasses into pairing mode
Choose the documented trigger that matches your hardware or the instruction displayed by the app. Do not press both sets of controls at the same time. The two methods are alternatives, and the blue indication is the confirmation that the glasses or case is ready to be discovered.

Count the full hold time rather than releasing at the first flash. The capture-button procedure specifies 12 seconds; the case procedure specifies at least 5 seconds. If there is no blue light after the specified hold, stop, check that the glasses are powered and seated, and follow the model-specific prompt instead of repeatedly pressing buttons at random.
Ray-Ban documents more than one trigger because behavior can depend on the model and whether the glasses have already been associated with an account. If one method does not produce a blue light, return to the app prompt and try the other documented method for your device. The methods do not need to be performed consecutively.
Finish pairing in the Meta AI app
- Open the Meta AI app and sign in with your Meta account.
- Confirm that Bluetooth is enabled in the phone’s system settings.
- With the glasses showing the blue pairing indication, remain in the app’s device-setup flow. The glasses should appear within about 10 seconds.
- Select the glasses when they appear and follow every on-screen prompt to finish the association.
The app may use a label such as “Add device,” but labels can change between releases. Keep the app open while the glasses are discoverable; leaving the pairing screen too early can make the device seem to disappear even though the hardware is ready. If discovery takes longer than the expected 10 seconds, do not immediately factory-reset anything. Check power, Bluetooth, and the blue indicator first.

A completed app association is a better checkpoint than simply seeing an unfamiliar Bluetooth name.
How audio works after setup
Ray-Ban Meta glasses use discreet, open-ear speakers built into the arms and connect to the phone over Bluetooth. Once the glasses are paired, they can play ordinary phone audio without a separate headphone or portable-speaker purchase. The Meta AI app is used to manage the glasses and their settings.
What open-ear playback means
The speakers do not seal the ear canal. You can remain aware of nearby sounds, but people around you may hear some playback, particularly at higher volume or in a quiet room. Audio behavior also depends on the phone, operating-system version, and the app that is playing sound. For a first test, use a short audio clip at a moderate volume while keeping the phone close.
Open-ear design also means that silence from the glasses is not automatically proof of a failed pairing. Check whether the audio app is paused, whether its playback-device control still points to the phone, and whether the glasses remain connected. These checks vary by phone and app, so use the controls your device actually displays.

If sound still comes from the phone
The official setup material establishes Bluetooth pairing and integrated speakers, but it does not define one universal audio-routing menu for every phone. Rather than following a phone-specific path that may not exist on your device, first confirm that the glasses show as connected in the Meta AI app and in the phone’s Bluetooth list. Then check the playback device control inside the audio app you are using. Menu names and routing controls differ by phone and app.

If the glasses connect but audio remains on the handset, pause and resume the track after selecting the glasses as the playback destination, then test again. If the connection drops during that test, use the range and competing-device checks below before changing deeper settings.
Why the glasses may not appear in the app
Work through the checks in this order. Each one removes a common cause without erasing your captures or account association.
1. Confirm power and charge
Make sure the glasses are switched on, have completed startup, and are charged. A white blink means startup is occurring; wait for solid green before attempting to discover the glasses. If the glasses shut down immediately, charge them in the case and retry. If they are new, remove the shipping tab and redock them so the case can complete its initial activation behavior.
2. Confirm phone Bluetooth
Open the phone’s system settings and verify Bluetooth is enabled. Keep the phone close to the glasses during discovery. The app cannot find powered-off glasses, and a disabled radio prevents the pairing exchange. Leave the phone unlocked and the Meta AI setup screen visible while you wait for the blue pairing indication to be detected.
3. Clear an existing iPhone pairing
On iOS, Ray-Ban advises forgetting the glasses in Bluetooth settings when an old phone pairing is interfering. After forgetting them, return to the Meta AI app, place the glasses into pairing mode again with the case button, wait for the blue indication, and retry setup. The FAQ says this forgetting step is not necessary on Android, so do not treat it as a required Android procedure.
4. Retry from a clean pairing state
Use the case-button procedure: dock the glasses, hold the case button on the back for at least 5 seconds, and wait for the blue flash. Then reopen or return to the device setup screen in the Meta AI app. Discovery can take up to 10 seconds. If you used the frame-button procedure first, the case method provides a separate documented trigger without requiring an immediate reset.
5. Restart both sides of the connection
If the glasses still do not show, switch them off and on again. Quit the Meta AI app completely, reopen it, sign in if prompted, and start the setup flow again. This refreshes the app session without deleting captures. Wait for the white startup blink and solid green ready state before asking the app to discover the glasses again.

6. Check the model and app version
There is no single published table covering every generation, region, phone version, and current app release. Confirm that the app is the current version offered for your phone and that the support instructions match your exact glasses. If the app uses a different button instruction, follow that instruction rather than forcing a procedure intended for another model.

Fix a connection that drops or reports an error
- Move closer: Keep the phone near the glasses while testing. Ray-Ban specifically recommends moving closer when Bluetooth drops.
- Change phone position: Keep the phone in front of you or in a front pocket. A rear pocket or body position between the devices can make the connection less reliable.
- Disconnect other Bluetooth devices: Temporarily disconnect watches, speakers, cars, or other accessories so they cannot compete for the phone’s Bluetooth connection.
- Retry pairing mode: If the error occurs during setup rather than playback, dock the glasses, trigger the blue case-light procedure, and restart the app flow.
- Keep the app session simple: Close and reopen the Meta AI app if it loses the device during setup, then leave the setup screen open for the full discovery period.
These steps address radio range, body obstruction, and competing connections before you take any destructive action. Test one change at a time so you know which condition improved the link.
Do not factory-reset as an early fix
Ray-Ban warns that a factory reset permanently erases captures and removes associations with the Meta account. Treat it as a last resort only after ordinary power, Bluetooth, app-restart, and clean-pairing checks have failed. Because the exact reset procedure can vary by model and change with support updates, confirm the current official instructions for your glasses before performing it. Back up or export anything you need first if the device and app still allow access.
A reset is not a substitute for choosing the correct pairing trigger. If the blue light never appears, first verify the 12-second capture-button method and the at-least-5-second case-button method applicable to your model, along with charge and power. Destroying associations before those checks can create extra setup work without fixing the original cause.

Charging case and replacement compatibility
The listed product package includes a charging case. The listed model does not include a USB-C cable, so you may need a suitable cable for charging the case. The case is more than a storage accessory during setup: it is one of the documented ways to place the glasses into pairing mode.
- Most charging cases and USB-C cables work with Ray-Ban Meta Gen 2.
