Grand Theft Auto VI is scheduled for November 19, 2026, on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. As of October 13, 2026, the documented way to control access and playtime is through the console family account—not through a confirmed GTA VI settings menu. On PS5, you can set daily playable hours, choose whether the console only warns the child or logs them out, restrict games by age level, and approve or deny an exception for a specific game.
Xbox availability is confirmed, but the official listing still says “Rating Pending,” and a verified Xbox family-settings procedure was not available in the current official material. Do not rely on guessed Xbox menu paths; check the current Xbox Family Settings guidance near launch.
What you can control before GTA 6 launches
Rockstar’s current platform information lists Grand Theft Auto VI for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, with a November 19, 2026 release date. That distinction matters: the console family account controls whether the child can use the game and when the child can play, while any in-game settings would be a separate feature that Rockstar would need to document.

These settings are attached to the child’s family account. They are not a timer stored in the GTA VI installation, so moving the account to another compatible PS5 keeps the account-level rules with the child.
Set up a child account and family membership on PS5
Use a separate child account
Create or use the child’s own PlayStation child account and add it to your family before configuring limits. A family manager or an adult appointed as parent or guardian must administer the settings. If the child plays through an adult account, the PS5 cannot apply the child-specific schedule and age level reliably; the controls follow the signed-in family member.
Check who can administer settings
The account making the changes must be the family manager or an adult parent/guardian with management rights. Sign out of the child account before changing family controls, then sign in with the managing adult account. Keep the managing account’s password private so the child cannot undo the restrictions.
Set the time zone first
Playtime schedules use the child account’s time zone. Set that time zone before creating a schedule, especially if the console was purchased in another region or the child recently moved. A wrong time zone can make a limit appear to start or end at an unexpected local hour.
Set a daily GTA 6 playtime limit on PS5
- Sign in as the manager: On the PS5, use the family manager or the appointed parent/guardian account.
- Open family management: Go to Settings > Family and Parental Controls > Family Management.
- Select the child: Choose the child account that will play GTA VI.
- Open Playtime Settings: Confirm the account’s time zone, then choose whether playtime should be restricted.
- Choose the schedule: Set the allowed duration and the playable hours for each day. You can use different values on different days, such as a shorter school-day window and a longer weekend window.
- Save the settings: Review every day before leaving the screen. A duration controls how much time can be used; playable hours control when that time may be used.
For example, you could allow two hours on a weekday only between 4 p.m. and 8 p.m., then configure a different duration and window for Saturday. The exact schedule should reflect your household’s routine; PlayStation does not publish a GTA VI-specific recommended limit.
Choose what happens when time runs out
PlayStation documents two end-of-limit choices:
- Notify Only: The PS5 warns the child as the limit approaches and when the limit is reached, but it does not automatically sign the child out.
- Log Out: The PS5 signs the child out when the permitted playtime ends. Unsaved progress can be lost if the game has not saved before logout, so give the child advance notice and encourage regular saves.
The PS5 or PlayStation Family app can be used to consider a request for more time. If you approve extra time, treat that approval as a deliberate change for that day rather than weakening the regular schedule.

Manage the schedule away from the console
PlayStation provides the same family-management controls through the account website and the PlayStation Family app. The app can manage playtime and age settings and handle requests, subject to regional availability and the platform’s current feature set. Use the same managing adult account in the app; changing a different family member’s account will not alter the child’s schedule.

Block GTA 6 by age level on PS5
Set the child’s game and app age level
From Settings > Family and Parental Controls > Family Management, select the child and set the age level for games and apps. This is separate from the playtime schedule: an account can have plenty of available hours and still be prevented from launching a game that exceeds its age level.
Because GTA VI’s final rating is not yet established in the official material cited here, select the age level based on your family’s policy and the rating that appears in the child’s store or library listing when the game is available. Do not infer a final rating from marketing material or from another edition.
Answering “Can I block GTA 6 on my child’s PS5?”
Yes, if GTA VI is classified above the child account’s permitted age level, the PS5 can block the game through the account’s game-and-app restriction. Blocking is not the same as setting a time limit: blocking prevents access, while a time limit allows access only during the configured schedule.
Understand exception requests

- User-generated content: Restrict or allow content created or shared by users, according to the child’s age and your rules.
- Privacy: Review who can see the child’s profile, activity, and interactions.
- Spending: Set the child’s spending limit separately from game access. A blocked game can still be visible in a store, while a spending limit controls purchases rather than playtime.
These categories are independent. Changing a privacy or spending setting will not change the hours in Playtime Settings, and changing the game age level will not automatically configure communication permissions.
What is currently known about Xbox Series X|S
The official Xbox listing confirms Xbox Series X|S support and the November 19, 2026 release date. When accessed on October 13, 2026, the listing displayed “Rating Pending.” That label is a status, not a final age classification.

How to test the PS5 setup before launch
You do not need GTA VI installed to verify that the family controls are attached to the correct account. Testing now can prevent a late-night configuration problem when the game launches.
- Confirm account identity: Check that the child’s PS5 profile is the account selected in Family Management.

Troubleshooting common PS5 problems
The schedule appears to use the wrong hours
Return to the child account’s time-zone setting and correct it before editing the schedule. Then recheck each day’s playable hours. Do not compensate for a wrong time zone by shifting every day’s hours manually.
The child can play after the limit
Check whether the end action is set to Notify Only. That option warns the child but does not sign them out. If automatic enforcement is required, select Log Out and explain the change so the child can save progress before the cutoff.
The game is blocked even though time remains
Review the child’s game-and-app age level. Age restrictions and playtime are separate; available minutes do not override an age-level block. If you want to consider access, review the specific exception request rather than raising the entire age level without checking what else it would allow.
The child cannot request or receive extra time
Confirm that the child is signed in to the managed child account and that the adult is using the family manager or authorized parent/guardian account. The PlayStation Family app’s functions can vary by region and current platform version, so use the PS5 family-management screen if an app option is unavailable.
A different adult changed the controls
Review which adults are appointed as parent/guardian and secure the managing account credentials. Anyone with management rights may be able to alter family settings; the child should not have access to those credentials.
