To set up a Mint Mobile eSIM, use the Mint Mobile app on Wi-Fi, enter the 11-digit eSIM activation code from your order email, and follow the prompts for your phone. Before you start, confirm that the phone supports eSIM and is unlocked. If you’re transferring your number, keep your old service active and wait for the transfer to finish before installing the eSIM.
Before you start
- Check compatibility and unlock status. Look up your exact phone model with Mint Mobile’s compatibility checker. The phone must support eSIM and be unlocked; eSIM support alone does not make a carrier-locked phone eligible. If your device is not eSIM-compatible, Mint offers a physical SIM option. See Mint’s eSIM information.
- Update your phone and connect to reliable Wi-Fi. Mint recommends updating the operating system and using Wi-Fi for activation and installation.
- Find your activation details. Have the 11-digit eSIM activation code from the email address used at checkout ready. If you’re keeping your number, also get your current carrier’s account number, transfer PIN or PIN, and billing ZIP code. The exact transfer details can vary by carrier.
- Keep your old carrier service active. Do not cancel it before activation and any number transfer are complete. Mint advises completing the transfer before installing the eSIM; track it in the Mint app or wait for Mint’s confirmation email. Most transfers take a few minutes, but some take longer.
Activate a new Mint eSIM
Mint’s activation process is app-led, but the phone settings and labels differ between iPhone and Android. Mint publishes separate platform guides and videos, so follow the prompts for your device rather than applying Android menu names to an iPhone. Its written activation instructions expose a specific Android flow; for iPhone, use the app’s prompts and Mint’s activation guide.
Start in the Mint Mobile app
- Connect to Wi-Fi, then download or open the Mint Mobile app.
- Choose Activate Your SIM Card.
- Enter the 11-digit eSIM activation code from your order confirmation email. The app should detect whether the phone supports eSIM.
- Choose whether to get a new number or transfer your current number. A new number skips the transfer steps. To transfer, enter the requested phone number, ZIP code, carrier, and account or transfer credentials.
- Submit the transfer request if you’re porting a number, and finish creating your Mint account. Wait for the transfer to complete before proceeding to eSIM installation.
Install the eSIM on iPhone
After the number transfer is complete, continue through the iPhone-specific installation prompts in the Mint app. Use the emailed QR code when prompted, or choose manual entry if scanning does not work. The written Mint instructions do not provide a complete iPhone menu-by-menu activation sequence, so use the current app prompts and Mint’s iPhone activation guide rather than relying on Android labels.
Install the eSIM on Android
After the number transfer is complete, select QR-code installation in the Mint app and scan the QR code from the confirmation email. If QR installation is unavailable or fails, use manual entry and copy the SM-DP+ address and activation code supplied by Mint. Android menu names and eSIM settings vary by manufacturer and model.

If mobile data does not work after activation, follow Mint’s APN configuration guidance in its activation instructions. Mint also notes that restarting the phone may help it connect.
Choose the right setup path

- Update the Mint Mobile app and sign in.
- Open Account, then SIM Card.
- Select Order Replacement SIM.
- Choose Get an eSIM if the option appears, confirm the target phone, and complete the order and installation prompts.
If the app does not offer eSIM, Mint says the option may be unavailable because the phone does not support it. See Mint’s physical-SIM-to-eSIM instructions.
Fix common Mint eSIM problems
The activation email or code is missing
Search your inbox for “Mint Mobile,” “activation code,” or “order confirmation.” Check spam or junk and other tabs such as Promotions or Updates, and make sure you’re checking the email address used at checkout. Mint’s activation-code help page has additional guidance.

The QR code will not scan
Make sure the QR code is clearly visible, clean the camera lens, and adjust the screen brightness. If scanning still fails, use manual installation and enter the SM-DP+ address and activation code provided by Mint.
The iPhone is stuck on “Activating”
Open Settings > Cellular, select the number being activated, and check that Turn On This Line is enabled.

The phone shows SOS or has no signal
- Confirm the phone is unlocked and the Mint line is turned on.
- Check that Mint is selected as the default line for voice and data where appropriate.
- Temporarily turn off other SIMs, then toggle the Mint eSIM off and back on.
- Restart the phone and check for software updates.
- Check whether the phone limits how many SIM or eSIM lines can be active at once.
Mint also recommends removing unused physical SIMs and deleting unused eSIM profiles. Do not delete a profile unless you are sure it is unused and understand how to replace it: Mint warns that a deleted eSIM cannot be recovered.
Activation still does not work
Contact Mint Care for help. Mint advises calling from a different phone than the one you’re trying to activate. Its eSIM troubleshooting guide covers additional checks.
