To set up Ray-Ban Meta glasses, install the Meta AI app, sign in with a Meta account, enable Bluetooth, charge and power on the glasses, then put them into pairing mode. The app should detect them and guide you through the remaining setup. The blue pairing light is the key signal; the exact procedure depends on whether you use the charging-case button or the capture button on the folded frames.
What you need before setup
Have these items ready before opening the app:
- Ray-Ban Meta glasses and their charging case.
- An iPhone or Android phone with Bluetooth enabled.
- The Meta AI app installed from your phone’s app store.
- A Meta account for signing in.
- A USB-C charging cable if the case needs power and you do not already have one. The cited Gen 2 product listing includes the charging case but does not include a USB-C cable.

Check the phone before opening the case
For the Ray-Ban Meta Gen 2 listing, Meta lists iOS 15.2 or later and Android 10 or later as minimum operating systems. Those numbers are not a universal approval list: Meta points to a separate phone-compatibility list, so a handset running one of those versions may still be unsupported. Check the exact phone and region if you are buying or troubleshooting.
Bluetooth must be enabled in the phone’s system settings. Merely having the Meta AI app installed is not enough, and a phone that is below the listed operating-system minimum should be updated before you spend time repeating pairing steps.

Install the Meta AI app and sign in
- Open the App Store on an iPhone or Google Play Store on an Android phone.
- Search for and install the Meta AI app.
- Open the app and sign in with your Meta account, or create one if you do not have an account.
- When the app requests Bluetooth access, allow it. Bluetooth must be enabled in the phone’s system settings before the glasses can be discovered.
Keep the Meta AI app open during the first connection. The phone-side setup is app-mediated rather than a traditional pairing flow in which you begin by selecting the glasses from the operating system’s Bluetooth list. If your phone displays a glasses entry in Bluetooth settings, use the Meta AI app to complete setup instead of assuming that a system-level connection alone has finished registration.
Prepare the glasses and charging case
First unboxing
- Remove the plastic isolation tab located between the case and glasses.
- Place the glasses back in the charging case so the contacts seat correctly.
- Wait for the case LED to flash blue. That blue flash indicates that the case has entered the pairing state described for first setup.
Do not skip the redocking step. The glasses need to sit on the case contacts, and the case needs enough power to wake and identify them. If the case does not enter pairing mode automatically, use the manual case procedure below.
Manually put the case into pairing mode
- Fold both arms of the glasses and place them in the charging case.
- Close or position the case as required for the glasses to remain seated.
- Press and hold the button on the back of the case for at least five seconds.
- Release the button when the case LED flashes blue.
The case-button method is useful when the automatic first-unboxing sequence did not start or when you need to begin setup again. The important details are the location of the control, the glasses’ position in the case and the blue case LED. Use the instructions and prompts shown for your exact glasses and app version.

Make sure the case can provide power
If the glasses will not wake, put them in the case and connect the case to power before trying again. The Gen 2 listing cited for this guide includes the charging case but says a USB-C cable is not included. It also says most USB-C cables are compatible with that product. A cable may therefore be a useful optional accessory, but a new case or a special Meta-branded cable is not required by the setup instructions.
Power on the glasses and read the status lights
Before pairing, make sure the glasses have enough charge. If they appear unresponsive, put them in the case and connect the case to power, then try again.
- Find the power switch on the glasses.
- Slide and hold the switch toward the lens until the notification LED blinks white.
- Release the switch. White blinking indicates startup.
- Wait for the LED to become solid green before continuing in the app. Startup can take up to one minute.
Do not interpret the first white blink as a completed connection. It only shows that startup is beginning. Give the glasses the full startup interval, then look for solid green before entering or repeating pairing mode.

Pair the glasses with your phone
Once the glasses are powered and the appropriate blue pairing indicator is visible, continue in the Meta AI app. The app should find the glasses in about 10 seconds, although the first startup can take longer because the glasses may still be booting. Leave the app open while it searches and accept the prompts it presents for your model.
Option 1: Pair with the folded-frame capture button
- Fold both arms of the glasses.
- Press and hold the capture button on top of the frames for 12 seconds.
- Watch the LED inside the frames and release the button when it blinks blue.
- Return to the Meta AI app. Select the glasses when they appear and follow every on-screen prompt.
The 12-second hold is deliberate; releasing early may leave the glasses outside Bluetooth pairing mode. If the glasses do not appear after the blue blink, leave them folded, confirm Bluetooth is still enabled and use the troubleshooting steps below.
Option 2: Pair with the charging-case button
- Place the glasses in the charging case.
- Hold the button on the back of the case for at least five seconds.
- Release it when the case LED flashes blue.
- Keep the glasses in the case while the Meta AI app searches, then accept the prompts shown for your model.
The two procedures use different controls and different LEDs: the case method watches the case light, while the folded-frame method watches the LED inside the frames. Ray-Ban’s instructions describe both routes, but they do not establish that every model or software release supports both in exactly the same way. If one route is not offered in your app, use the other route or the model-specific instructions.

Neither table row should be treated as a universal replacement for the other. The manufacturer’s instructions and the app flow determine which method applies to your model. The common requirement is a visible blue pairing state followed by completion in the Meta AI app.
Check your phone’s operating-system requirements
The Meta Store listing cited for the Ray-Ban Meta Gen 2 product gives these minimum operating systems:

Confirm power and charge
- Put the glasses in the charging case and connect the case to power if the glasses will not start.
- Remove the glasses, slide and hold the power switch toward the lens, and wait for the white startup blink.
- Allow up to one minute for startup and continue only after the LED becomes solid green.
Confirm Bluetooth and pairing mode

Ray-Ban says this forget-device step is not necessary on Android. On Android, retry from the Meta AI app after confirming Bluetooth and pairing mode instead of treating a system-level removal as a required step.

Restart the connection without resetting
- Switch the glasses off.
- Switch them back on and wait for the startup sequence to finish.
- Quit the Meta AI app completely.
- Reopen the app and retry pairing.
These steps preserve captures and the existing account association. If the glasses still do not appear after charging, restarting and re-entering pairing mode, contact Ray-Ban support. Do not jump straight to a factory reset simply because discovery failed.
If your Ray-Ban Meta glasses aren’t pairing with the Meta AI app
A phone can see Bluetooth activity without completing the Meta AI setup. When that happens, repeat the app-mediated process rather than trying to finish setup only from the phone’s Bluetooth menu.
- Verify that the glasses completed startup and are not still showing the white boot blink.
- Trigger one of the documented blue pairing states again.
- Keep the app in the foreground while it searches for approximately 10 seconds.
- On iPhone, forget an existing glasses entry before retrying. Ray-Ban does not require this step on Android.
- Quit and reopen the app if the search screen appears stuck.
If the app continues to reject the connection, stop before resetting and contact support. The failure may be related to the exact model, app release, firmware or phone compatibility rather than a mistake in the button timing.
Common setup mistakes to avoid
- Starting with the phone’s Bluetooth list: The official flow begins in Meta AI after signing in, not with a standalone operating-system pairing routine.
- Releasing the capture button too soon: The frame procedure calls for 12 seconds, followed by the blue blink inside the frames.
- Watching the wrong LED: Case pairing uses the case LED; folded-frame pairing uses the inside-frame LED.
- Ignoring the boot interval: White blinking is startup, and the glasses may take up to one minute to reach solid green.
- Assuming an operating-system minimum proves compatibility: iOS 15.2 and Android 10 are the listed Gen 2 minimums, but handset compatibility is a separate check.
- Resetting before preserving media: A reset permanently erases captures and account associations.
Factory reset: last resort and account transfer
A factory reset is not a routine pairing fix. Ray-Ban states: “When Ray-Ban Meta glasses go through a factory reset, it permanently erases all captures and any associations between the glasses and your Meta Account.” Import or back up any photos and videos you want to keep before starting a reset.

Confirm the connector and exact glasses/case model before buying a cable. If the case has no power, the glasses may not start or enter pairing mode, which can look like an app-discovery problem. Should I pair the glasses from iPhone or Android Bluetooth settings first?
